This game was the first and only game to literally put me in a trace. Do yourselves a favor turn off all distractions and play this on the largest screen you can find with surround sound if possible. I've played Sooo many racing games, shooters, adventure, sci fi, etc. With this set up but if I had to pick only one game to play on a large screen with surround sound I'd be this one no questions asked. The sound design and lack of dialogue put me in such a plane of focus to where nothing was in the back of my mind. Unlike with other games where there was something to think about like counting the number of "x" I need to advance, what abilities I should focus on, memorizing patterns, think about how long till I should grab dinner, and just overall think about it like a video game and fully aknowledging it as such but with this I just played without hanging thoughts. I always hear the immersive buzzword for games but this is the only game I can say I felt immersed. Like I was there experiencing everything and the controller was just how my muscles moved. Never thought it would've been from an 8-bit game of all things but it happened.
What really got me into Hyper Light Drifter was the music made by Disasterpiece. Not to mention that the world feels like a mixture of Twilight Princess, Dark Souls and Evangelion.
Ever since I played this game last year on PC, it has been my favorite indie title, tied with shovel knight. Can't wait to get through this bonus content on the switch

I actually own the OST on some limited run cassette tapes, and I went out and bought a second set of them and a cassette player just because I loved this music so much. If you haven't played this game, you're missing out!
This was the game that got me into indie games. My brother showed it to me after I had stopped following video games for a while and I was immediately impressed by it! Definitely worth playing if you never have and I might pick this version up if it goes on sale since I'm still going through new game plus on the pc version at the moment.

I love everything about this game, ive played it through multiple times, sometimes doing speed runs, sometimes really taking my time and enjoying the play through over the course of a week. Its one of the only games i know of that you can play dozens of different ways over and over and not get bored with the combat mechanics, environment, or art.
Love this game, have it on PS4 and beat it on NG+ (where most bosses and some enemies have attacks that one-shot you). The combat feels so fast and engaging. Will probably rebuy it on Switch for the tower climb mode since there's new boss fights.

I just put some head phones on and listen to lowfi tracks while playing this, I don’t hate the music in the game, I love the music, but lowfi just suits the game for me, stuff like Nujabes, fat Jon , blazo, etc. it’s the most calming thing ever. Intense gameplay is a yes, but the scenery of the game is soooo chill. Fits beats real well
I just got this one for the switch after playing hollow knight. Oh boy, this is an intense, emotional piece of art. It has this dark souls like "one more try...this time i'll do it"-vibe and a fantastic atmosphere.

Just a note: the reason some tries of the western area boss which the reviewer had trouble with had additional enemies is likely because the crystals containing said enemies were broken. You can see them at the periphery of the arena.
I'll be playing all night tonight! Already completed it a couple of times on PS4 and I've been eagerly anticipating this Switch port since I even knew it was a thing. It's a 10 and one of my favourite titles in the past 5 years!!!
I loved the visuals and aesthetic of the game, but the combat really needs some work. The biggest issue I think is that you can’t performs actions immediately after each other, like if you dashed you would have to wait a second to attack or shoot, which made the combat tedious and frustrating. If they make a second game exactly like the first, but fix these issues, it would be my favorite game of all time.
The music in this game is superb. I have only bought 3 games more than once in my life. The last of us for PS3 and PS4, The Witcher 3 for Xbox One and PS4 and this for Xbox One and tomorrow for the Switch. The game is a masterpiece that checks all boxes for me: music, style, gameplay, history. If you haven't played I seriously recommend it. Also do yourself a favor and also look for the Vice documentary about the game. You'll appreciate even more.

I just started playing it on PC. It's realy stylish and atmospheric and I like it, but here in the beginning it is a little confusing to find your way around.
Just finished the final boss on my Switch. What an amazing game! The gorgeous pixel arts, music and ambiance, sense of adventure, so satisfying combat, etc. I just wish, it would been really great if the game provides the information on the undiscovered modules, at least after completing the game. I want to play more but have no idea on how to collect all modules and enter the hidden dungeons. Anyway, I was wondering about the added contents like boomerang, and this video seems to provide some clues :) Thank you for your nice review and tips!!
Well, if you are being honest, Hollow Knight probably is a better game, but it's not really a fair comparison since Super Metroid is over 20 years old and probably the only reason Hollow Knight exists to begin with.

Both are very good games. Enter the gungeon is my roguelike of choice but Wizard of legend isn’t a bad alternative. Hyper light drifter on the other hand is one of my favorite games. I’ve beaten it three times, plus the boss rush and couple of times and I own it both on steam on my computer and for my Nintendo switch. Hyper light drifters controls are simple yet when you combine the varied abilities at your disposal you can pull of very complex maneuvers weaving your way through enemies while reflecting bullets and cutting them with your sword once you get in close. The atmosphere is absolutely breathtaking with both the sounds, music and visuals coming together in such a way that left me astounded while walking through the world. Obviously I would recommend hyper light drifters out of the two games but that’s just my opinion. Whatever choice you do make however, at least you’re getting a damn good product.
Is this getting a physical edition I missed the physical for pc and ps4. My favorite indy game and the end all for all the same graphic same difficulty knock offs. Dead cells doesnt come close
I’m about 1/3 of the way through the game and I feel like I have no idea where to go since it shows points on the map but I can’t find how to get into the dungeon. I’ve wasted way to much time exploring the over world just searching for where I have to go
It might be a good time to try a different area. After the intro stage when you find yourself in the central town, you can go north, east, or west. Each direction leads to a different area and you can beat them in any order you want. The order of increasing difficulty IMO is east, north, west.
There are a bunch of outfits in the game, and they all have slightly different effects. There is a pretty good guide on the Steam forums, but what you need to know, is that you only need to wear one piece of an outfit to get its effects, so you can get three effects at once. Red (default) - no effect Blue - Decreases time between sword slash combos Fuchsia - Increases ammo regen from sword attacks White - Halves the time it takes to interact with something Yellow - Increases movement speed Orange - Speeds up grenade recharge time Blue/Green - Increases speed of health regen from medkit Pink (probably the one you found) - Stamina starts regenerating sooner Black - All kills are decapitations (purely cosmetic) Ochre - Max health increases by 1 Purple - Reduces stamina consumption by half Some of these effects are barely noticeable.

The combat seems very similar to Furi with the dash, sword, and blaster. But wow does this look good.

Yeah, the dash, pistol, and glowing blue sword are very reminiscent of Furi. That game is amazing too.

Feels like it's a Hollow Knight but top down view, with a lot of exploration, unfair death and hard learning curve, but seems fun anyway.
You should really review Hollow Knight--that amazing game + your soothing British voice = heaven.

My god the music is great! But not as great as the music on Sample S: Hole, Sample M: Bath, and Sample L: Maze.

Drop only happen on rare instances. You can expect a patch to sort this one out, as I think it's tied to GameMaker.
