9:40 Cecil Day-Lewis's The Magnetic Mountain serves as a political allegory that explores the tension between old and new values in society. Through a structured journey to an idealized "magnetic mountain," the poem juxtaposes the voices of four defendants representing traditional values-nature, education, religion, and domesticity-against four adversaries embodying modern temptations like sensuality and journalism. While the poem's rhetorical fervor highlights Day-Lewis's critique of contemporary society, it ultimately prioritizes political concerns over poetic nuance, resulting in a static structure that leaves the reader yearning for resolution. This tension reflects the poet's internal struggles and the broader societal conflicts of his time.
Perfect potpourri of information, wisdom, fun, communication and cuteness. If one must love literature and the process of learning, itmustbe from you. Loved it. Thank you.
You not only teach us...pray for us for passing the exam..motivate us.. encourage us..you make us to fall in love with English literature.. Wish one day I would meet you 😊💞💞
• Roy Campbell coined the term 'MacSpaunday' in Talking Bronco (1946). • Two anthology poems associated with Auden Group are: - New Signatures (1932) . First anthology in which poems by W. Dear ma'am you are amazing on your way of explaining things ....you make every topic so easier to understand and without any trouble we get lots of important points regarding English literature
Without listening your lecture my day is incomplete mam... As u said, i want make subject my own..if we prepared notes listing to you and researching about that..it will be sufficient. Thank u mam for ur suggestion
The Thirties Poets give a crystal clear view of the five authors in a precise manner. That is possible because of you. Please make videos on American authors also
The detailed introduction at the very beginning made it quite easier to understand the core spirit of the works of these poets. Like, how they were different from the high modernists, and where they were same, for they too like the early modernists responded to the troubling condition caused by war, but unlike them they participated in it,for instance Spanish civil war, and Auden's 1st September, 1939 is so very famous which marks the beginning of WWII, When you said 1907 was the year Rudyard Kipling received Nobel prize in literature, it was so easy to remember the year Ayden was born And that these writer had classical approach towards writing, was made more clear by your citation of their works, like Auden's the shield of Achilles, and Christopher Isherwood's translation of Aeneid and Virgil's eclogues, which instantly reminds his translation of Bhagvat Gita(songs of God) where the preface was added by Aldous Huxley, and Stephen Spender's Oedipus Trilogy. Auden even wrote in the modern version of Anglo-Saxon alliterative verse form, the poem called 'The Age of Anxiety' the date of its publication is easy to remember for it's 1947 And the way you summarised the theme of an elementary school room was very picturesque and also at the same time it came as an evidence of their being pink poets, And that these poets use imageries related to industry was very lucid when you clearly described why they are called pylon poets. There are so many important things that are conveyed to us through this video...Thanks a lott Ma'am, my respect and love will always be there for you.
Indeed your suggestions are worth it, I note everything which is new to me but from now I'll definitely computerize it. As always a beautiful lecture, the urge to read more grows by watching every video of yours, Thank you ma'am.
