Hello prim friends! My name is Gabriella Moir and welcome to our channel The Cape on the Corner at Tweedthistle Farms, where we love to explore antique shops and homes that are filled with history in early American antiques and primitives that also go well in farmhouse decor and decorating. We are sharing the building process too as we build our forever home, a Cape Cod style home on our 5+ acres in Ohio where we also have a specialty cut flower farm. Follow along as we share daily life of starting seeds and planting seedlings for the cutting garden, establish new landscaping near our home to try to give it that early look and feel. In the growing season we'll be starting a kitchen herb garden and so much more. Keep watching!

That was a walk through a family's history, a beautiful story. You mentioned bittersweet, where do you get it, or do you do what my mother did , drive down country roads and cut it yourself?
No, I would never cut without asking. Here's an example of why. Our 5+ acres didn't have a house built on it until we started last October. The previous owners lived down the road and maintained this plot of land including planting trees, evergreens and a lovely lawn. A few years ago, someone decided one of the evergreens would make a perfect Christmas tree, and they cut the top off of one of the evergreen trees. So no, I would never cut something from the 'side of the road'. Thanks for the opportunity to remind everyone that most land is owned by someone, somewhere. I buy my bittersweet at farm markets and our local outdoor Antique fairs often have bundles. Shops like the Cluttered Coop also some years sells it.

Interesting, but the prices were outrageous…
I definitely saw more that I would have liked to purchase. But that often happens the 1st day. Later, in many sales, they usually soften some and become open to offers and the last day 50% off.

Thanks for your kind words. Most often the owners aren't at sales like this. They're either passed on or already moved states away. To have a conversation with the person who gathered all these things by hand, does once again help to tell the story. All the antiques we buy have a story, we just aren't always able to know them. So we become their stewards, to hold and protect and pass them on.
