I have 2 Algol talismans from Renaissance Astrology--one for my car, one that I wear. They're powerful and effective. I appreciate your point about Algol's reputation as evil/bad (bad, according to who?). This point is especially important when we excavate Medusa's story and recover earlier versions. (Like the customer you quote, I, too have experienced Algol as comforting and loving.)

Having dealt with two "malefic" talismans from RA, I can say Algol is just fantastic -- you'll get way more rambunctiousness out of Mars as a talisman. I personally have a strong natal Mars and I've experienced this. Algol, you'll get some internet stuff and some weird dreams perhaps. At first.
I recall there being a story where someone decided to bury an Algol talisman because they thought it was a good idea (another magical tradition) and proceeded to have a bunch of negative effects. This would probably be the same result with any other talisman that is buried!

I think this falls into "don't try this at home folks" but I do deal with it in my Horary Course.
I think that protection talismans work by deflecting, as far as possible, harmful forces away from the target. I believe that, in the case of Algol, this effect is directed to the one who sent the attack in the first place, and this is the main difference in terms of its effect, from the rest of the talismans offered by CW.

North Node is benefic so conjunct Algol is not a problem, but what it means? Nothing means anything by itself only in context with the underlying patterns of the chart.
