According to Chevy Chase's commentary on the movie he said Dana Hill "Did" enjoy making it and everyone mostly enjoyed working with her and that he said he missed her dearly".
My people came from Munich a hundred years ago. One of the things on my bucket list is to visit there and see a real Oktoberfest. I’ll have to keep this scene in mind….
I love how they add the detail that Chevy Chase has the wrong kind of hat and that its larger than the others like he is overcompensating trying to fit in. It just adds to the emphasis he's an outsider.
I am from germany (well the northern part) and I never heard about these kind of dancing before. I also never got why it went to a fistfight in this movie...great one nevertheless
I guess the traditional Bavarian folk dances were too "tame", so they had to mix it up a little... 😁😁😁😁😁😁 Come to think of it, what are the traditional dances/music like in Northern Germany? I know a bit about the wooden shoe deal/farmer type dances in the Netherlands, Burt Kaempfert easy listening type music, along with Heinz Kiessling and Werner Tautz, the waltzes/polkas thing, classical guys like Schumann, Brahms, etc. Maybe some other stuff. But yeah, everyone thinks of Bavaria -the food, the traditional clothes, the scenery, the music and dance, the beer... Fewer thoughts of (Lower) Saxony, Hannover, the Rhineland/Nordrhein/Westphalia, Mecklenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Brandenburg, Pomerania, Thuringia, Upper Saxony, Franconia/Hessia, Saarland, Swabia, etc.

According to Chevy Chase's Commentary on Euro Vacation this was filmed in the northernmost part of Italy in the Alps just near the German Border it was mid Oct 1984 and yes he said he was freezing as he had to wear the lederhosen and shorts.
A paternal parent who is from Germany, this is a traditional dance and they do slap each other hard at times and only big men play the game, but you don't lose cool and punch. I don't know the spelling but it's pronounced shoe-plut-lah
The Germans know how to throw a Levi party and just go in the basement afterwards to the house elf..I think they ripped these dance moves off shreck the over series omg they totally did..
This is a bavarian folk dance called "Schouplattla". It has nothing to do with the rest of Germany, especially the north. Remeber: Germany = a nation with many different cultures and languages (which Globalism, city hipsters, the German Media and Government seriously destroy). Bavarian = one of those, the one with the Oktoberfest and Lederhosn.
Clark headbutting the guy cracks me up everytime 🤣

This Audrey was a total riot! She must have had so much fun doing this role. Sadly she died too young. I hope you are resting in peace, Dana Hill.

This was literally the worst Audrey.
@@shawns9813 actually the worst Audrey was in Christmas Vacation but the rest of the cast was great

Me too !!!!
This is one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life. Xmas 🎄 vacation is ace, but this one is disgusting.
This is a great scene. Chevy did a great job improvising.
This might be the funniest scene in all the vacation movies. The slaps, head butt and punches are hilarious 😂
That started the fight and the griswald family running away.
I showed this clip to a friend of mine visiting from Germany and he laughed so hard when Chevy Chase punched the guy.
Then chevy got punched really bad that he fell to the table.
Omg I am from 1975, this movie was EVERYTHING when I was a kid XD
Watching now and for me, I think the best line in the whole movie is when Audrey says "now can we go home", lol! Wonderful movie!!
this was a pretty funny scene along with the chase in the end
Absolutely terrific fun movie
😂😂😂😂 This scene kills me everytime. What a buffoon Clark was 😆
Chevy Chase at his best, being funny as usual.
Dammit Clark! Rusty was about to get a happy ending with Claudia!!
The impromptu tap dance he does at 1:51 is my favorite part 😀
Never fails to make me laugh so hard every time.
Clark didnt know how to do the dance but somehow syncs perfect with the others 😂
It came naturally due to his German ancestry.
@@cajunkeels dad grandma's from Chicago. Shut up Russ 😂😂😂😂

without a doubt one of the funniest scenes chevy chase ever did in all of his movies
Probably so

The little Bugs Bunny dance he does at 1:52 kills me EVERY time. 🤣

Too bad they cut it too early.

It's because your German, and your sense of humour! 'well sucks'
Most Americans don't know that though lol
That’s funny how at @ 2:48 the guy that headlocks Clark has no hat on but suddenly has a hat when Ellen is hitting him with the tray
I know, that's weird.
They messed up with that scene.
Good eye, must’ve had protection under it lol

Reminds me of my time at Oktoberfest at the Wiesn.
I've been thinking of this movie filming location in university studios backlot
This scene was actually filmed in a Bavarian town located in the northernmost part of Italy near the Alps and the German /Swiss Border.

I was dead when she came in with a food tray and started beating the guy like it was WWF. 😂 😆 💀
It wasn't the same guy who was choking Clark, it was another guy when she hit him with the food tray.
I did not know Chevy Chase, um . . . Jerry Lewis . . . could dance. lol
