Got hooked on sailing videos lately. What we forget is it’s like driving a car. Thing is most people don’t plan a long driving trip from say Connecticut to Florida on a whim it last minute. Then decide to drive from Florida to the west coast on a whim. Yet watching sailing videos we see people sail from Off the coast of California to Hawaii in a 20 minute video. We forget that in some cases the sailor has been sailing for decades since he was in his 20s and his dad sailed as he was a kid growing up. He planned that trip for over a year in preparation repairing things on his boat, adding newer electronics & rigging & sails. Examining tides, flow & weather patterns for that region from previous years to get an overall idea about what he could expect during same time & month. Like many, we think we can just buy a sailboat & sail the world fantasy. It can happen & be safe but there’s no skipping steps to gain worldly experience that one needs to acquire before sailing in the middle of the Pacific without proper planning, experience and not just an ipad & a can of macaroni and cheese etc. Stay wet my RUclips friends!
As others have said Holly, its not the frequency of your updates, its the amazing content, and of course the beautiful young woman that is doing so. As do others I just love what you are doing and what you have accomplished, and look forward to what will come, take care and stay safe.
You are blossuming brightly from living what you love. Recently I read a quote you might enjoy." Writing is listening to your heart and taking notes." Highest Blessings
Due to yesterday was s holiday in Germany, I was able to bingewatch all of your videos. I love how you emotionally geek out when you're talking about the places you discover. I was laughing and crying a lot while watching. I really feel privileged to watch your vlog and love how you do it. All the best!
I am SO in awe of you (that is not an easy thing to do!). I absolutely love your videos and look forward to your next one. If writing is your passion then I’m all up for the new changes, you only get one life so do what makes YOU happy. X
I did enjoy the weekly video, as not many post on a Monday. When exciting new stuff becomes a drag it is always good to re-evaluate if the things you do bring you towards the long term goals you have. Go do you own thing!
Enjoying your videos very much! So fun and exciting to see your adventures, hear your thoughts and daily life. It would be great if the videos were twice as long ;) Thanks for sharing and being an inspiration! Looking forward to the 2-week video! Fair winds and Aloha!🌺
Holly, please DON'T focus on making the videos twice as long - its the quality that counts and 15 minutes of good, well edited video is worth the wait. And am looking forward to your blogs, it can give a much deeper insight to the authors feelings.
That was so weird. The gurgling sound during your voice recording sounded like it was coming from *my* boat. But I'm 10 feet in the air in the boatyard! I had to stop the video and check if it was my boat or yours! :-) Love your format/style--lots of narration while sailing, the narration in general is very good and interesting.
Hi. My daughter drew great inspiration from your videos. She made we watch them with her. We really bonded watching them and seeing how you inspired her. However she is not happy with this new format. She feels you are letting down her fans who can afford Patreon. (Her words not mine). She feels now that it a money grab. So sorry that you changed. We really enjoyed every Monday watching your videos where I could show her that she can do whatever she wants in life. Pointing to you as a string Roll model. But sad to say you broke her heart. Still wishing you safe journey and lots of love.
I'm sorry to hear that. I assure you, this is about giving myself a space to be able to write more, which is my passion. It takes a lot of time and energy to create a new video each week. Is there anything your daughter would like to see me include in my next video? I'd be happy to put something in for her :)
you gotta problem if you blame a video-tuber for failing to bond with your daughter. suggest you actually do something with her rather than watching a computer screen. Holly is under no obligation to make any videos, and we are under no obligation to become patrons. it is poor form to blame holly or even mention it on this page.
Do what you want Holly, and don’t cave to the pressure from others. Always choose pleasure over pain, and enjoy the life that grows from your choices. That is the hippy way. Thanks for sharing some of your journey, but you don’t have to be a slug in a jar for the insatiable YT viewers. Just be happy, and share when you feel like it. Read, write, explore, fish, nap, enjoy some privacy, make some music, play, breath, whatever you want...... you are free,
I couldn’t agree with you more. Life is all about being happy and true to yourself. Unfortunately my partner and I have only just learnt this and the hardest way possible.
Hi Holly, I know I’m way behind as I just discovered your channel. I’m totally captivated. I’m no sailor, but love watching your channel. I find myself listening to you say where you are, then quickly jump to google earth to look for the place. Perhaps this is a lamp request or it covered somewhere, but giving gps single points of the bays and small less known islands would really help us non sailors. 😀
I discovered while cycle touring Japan vlogging and blogging don't mix well. They each use a different mindset and in my case different cameras. I wrote the blog while I was there but I still haven't done anything with the video I shot, my RUclips channel has no content.
Love watching your videos. truly inspirational. From watching videos like yours and others like you, it would seem that, to use an old term, "dropping out", would be best done in a small, inexpensive boat. You'd need to be environmentally friendly and aware and you'd have to really do your home work first. But, if you choose a cheap way of living and you're careful, you can live where you like and experience fantastic places. If you neighbour bothers you, just move. :) Sounds ideal.
If I had any spare money I would help I just had some damage to my home over a year ago still repairing thanks holly for an upbeat channel helps me be positive in a sad situation.
Blog vs. video? You, do you, I'll watch. Also I really like the cut of your jib. Or was that your Genoa? Either way it is beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Holly, I agree with the general consensus. I really understand your desire to write, but you need to build up a larger fan base first. Think of it as a compromise that allows you to do and see things you might not have been able to without the RUclips thing. Your videos have been awesome. I hope you reconsider. Regardless, I wish you the best!
I would encourage you to make time for writing, but...I'm not sure that your new plan will achieve the results you want. If you make biweekly videos that are twice as long and better quality than your weekly videos, will that really result in less time spent on videoing and editing, and more time being available for writing? In addition, I am subbed to your vids and watch them as soon as they pop up, and while my intention is to read your blogs, I probably will forget to go and check your blogsite every other week.
Hi Holly - your mainsail leech looks really hooked (like at 1:41), and it looks like your upper full batten is too short or broken. I am sure we can help you if need battens.
Holly, It would be nice if you took a picture of your chart for that day, and say something like, I am here and sailing to there. Thanks Mark, San Diego, Ca Catalina 36
I love your videos. They are really an inspiration. I'm living aboard my Dufour 27 and I hope to start cruising in a few years after I learn more about sailing and cruising. If you were in the Pacific northwest, which way would you go to Key West? a. Panama Canal b. Circumnavigate west c. Wait a couple of years for climate change and take the northwest passage Thanks.
Even though I know you dance to the beat of your own drum, as it were, just wanted to add a word of encouragement. It’s your adventure, so do what’s right for you. Every minute of video takes so long to create, there’s filming, editing, writing a script and the narrative to consider. Not that you need the practice but of course writing in blog form may well help your videography too. Then we have to remember that this is your adventure, your time to do it your way. We are here just to tag along and see just a snippet of the cool stuff you get to do. Certainly I don’t want to see you spending so much time and energy with the RUclips and Patreon videography that you forget that this is just that snippet, not the whole purpose of the voyage. Every channel is different and I’m sure you will find your way to do it your own way that satisfies you, but also keeps an entertained audience following.
Hi Holly. You appear very comfortable single handing like you do.Im going to do the same one day.A question, Do you have a contingency plan if something goes awry on top of the mast while you're offshore and you have to get up there to fix it. Thanks and keep sailing .
I would love to support you financially, but I am busy saving for my own yacht. The more I give away, the less I have for my own boat. I have WiFi at my home so it costs me no extra to follow on RUclips. Sorry if that sounds selfish, but the less I give away, the more I can invest in my own dream boat!
This made me giggle but only because my partner and I are trying to build up to the same thing. Maybe in the future Holly we will be on the ocean and can meet up somewhere dinner and drinks will definitely be on us as we absolutely love you ⚓️🗺
I am retired on ill health pension after a truck ran me down. I live far enough south of Richards Bay S.A. for the foul air not to affect me. My daughter lives in Canada so it is my idea to buy a yacht - that gives me transport to Canada and a base whilst I am there. My WiFi does cost monthly, but is my entertainment and I get way more from it than it costs me. I have uncapped access so the cost is standard each month. My income is enough in excess of my expenditure each month that I can save for a smallish yacht each month so it should not take me too long to save for a purchase. People have commented that sailing is not safe, but a decade ago, I was attacked in my own home - in a quiet village - by thieves armed with hammers! How safe then is ANYTHING In S.A.? Sure water is not safe, but you can plan for trouble. I could not plan for armed thieves, unless I gave up my TV's and my existence? That is like saying to thieves, "Well done - you have won!" That, I refuse to do!
Just make a video reading your blog post with some shots of the boat and whatever you had a chance to capture, like more raw video so it doesnt yake much time, and then we still get to watch every monday.
Taking a little extra time will allow you to enjoy the experience without having a camera in your hand. Making money is nice, but in the end, it's about you enjoying your life and the experiences. Don't let the camera get in the way of you being happy.
Probably not a real good idea sweetheart. You might be too new to stay off video that long. People might forget to tune in ? Just a word of caution, but I hope it all works out. Stay safe and I love the videos.
I'm not making videos to get followers and likes. I'm doing it to share my life and hopefully inspire people. Writing is my passion, and I'm staying true to myself by making this choice. If it loses followers, so be it :)

Wow thanks so much! :)
Well that sucks.. I look forward to your video every week.
Holly, I remember reading about your Mom and Dad years with their adventures ! Sail On !
Two weeks is still good, some sailing people on YT take a month or more! I like your style!
I love Mondays. It gives me something to look forward to to see your videos.
I wonder if Garfield still hates Mondays? 🤣
I know Im pretty off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch new tv shows online?
@Nico Kabir Flixportal :D
@Azariah Keith thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it !!
@Nico Kabir Glad I could help :)

Once again a beautiful video. Love the sunset. Thanks WH
Love your work. Love your boat. No rush for videos. But they are so good.
The boat looks great! 😍😍😍😍😍
Nice passage. Thanks for letting me come along. Stay cool and thanks for making Monday suck a little less
Hello Holly! Looks like two battens are missing in the main. They are important for sail shape and help reduce the wear.
You're a talented communicator so I will watch your vids and read your blog. Do whatever works for you. :)
Once again you made my monday.
You great as you are, do your own thing
I did enjoy the weekly video, as not many post on a Monday. When exciting new stuff becomes a drag it is always good to re-evaluate if the things you do bring you towards the long term goals you have. Go do you own thing!
yes!!! follow your own path, we promise it is more interesting than others!
Can't wait to read your blog :)
Follow your heart young lady. Do whatever it is that makes you happy. You have your whole life ahead of you. Live your life.

Question what is your longest solo sail? Time and distance. You are a hoot thanks for sharing.
