Great video! I just upgraded my DT 370 swiss 3-pawl, with the 18t kit. I was easy to install just like you laid it out. I have only had a few rides with it, but so far so good. After awhile, I might step up to the 36t. We'll see. Keep up the good work.
I have the DT Swiss 180 hubs, after watching your video I took mine apart thinking they might have a 18 tooth but to my surprise they came with 36 tooth.
The bike isn't stationary while the wheel spins. Throws off the centrifugal forces and the bike movement absorbs some of it, which cases the wheel inertia to be uneven.
I bet. Our prices here are crazy, though the conversion on Euro right now is just over double, so around $160 CAD. That doesn’t take into account shipping and duties.
As I have a road dt 240 hub with the 18T engagement, I am now considering the higher teeth, which come to these 36T and 54T. I personally love the sound of the 54T, which is my first option to go for. However, in term of maintenance, the 36T would be a great choice in between as you said. So, which one do you think work best for me? Thanks :)
@@IslandBikeLife I appreciated your reply! One more thing to ask is about the maintenance of each ratchet between 36T and 54T. How often do you think we should do in term of maintenance for each of them? Thanks!

Just bought a fast forward ryot 44 with dt350 18t. I'm waiting for my new road frame to bring them together. I was planning to have 36t upgrade set, just because climbing more than 1000meters every 100km. Should i get 36t, or is it good with 18t with road bike?
Answered my question in 7:34 . Was gonna ask which do you think would be stronger for the added torque of an eMTB. So I'm figuring the 18T... perhaps mated to a steel freehub body (don't know if DT Swiss offer these)
In a road bike, which one would be the best kit? Can you notice the difference between the 18T and 36T on smooth roads? Thanks for your time and happy new year!!!
I would probably go 18T. Higher engagement for road doesn’t mean much to me once you get in a good rhythm you will have that solid engagement all the time even with the 18.
CK (Chris King) and Industry Nine bike hubs are amazing when it comes to engagement and producing a satisfying hub sound. However, compared to DT Swiss hubs that use a star ratchet system, they can be a bit tricky to service as they require a special tool. DT Swiss has prioritized serviceability in their hub design, which makes them much easier to maintain than most hubs. In fact, servicing a DT Swiss hub is quite easy - if you can fix a flat tire, you can handle the job. No special tool is required, making it a convenient option for those who like to do their own bike maintenance. So, when choosing between the two, serviceability may be a significant factor to consider.
Did anyone actually "downgraded" from 36T to 18T and misses the engagement? I'm using the 36T on my road bike. For my folding bike I would love to have something quiter. I love the DT Swiss hubs for being maintenance friendly but they are not exactly quiet.
Hello I have a dt Swiss 2200 hubs the rear is quick realease I would like to know if I can do this set up? I like most is the 54t.please reply thank you so much and have a great day!
Those run 370 hubs which you need an additional conversion kit to go from the pawls to a star ratchet system. By the time you get that and the star ratchet it is probably more cost efficient to get a new 350 hub and rebuild the wheel.
@@IslandBikeLife sorry my rear wheel is a dt Swiss e 2200 2 pawl so I don’t know if I can convert it to rachet system like yours. I would like to know if this is possible to convert.thank you so much and have a great day.

It is holding up well, I do not notice any real drag at all. If you are concerned just stick with the 36, there really isn’t much difference on trail when it comes to engagement. Thanks for watching.
Hi there ! with more engagements, do the free hub last longer ?! On my roval DT350 18t, my rear hub don't last, my wheel is stopping earlier than my other wheels (more free wheel with my campagnolo or tunes hubs) do you have an explanation ? if I upgrade 18t to 54t, will I have an improvement, ? thanks a lot !

I'm sorry but that buzzing drives me crazy, I replaced my rear with a hope hub and while I really like the engagement I am really starting to dislike the amount of noise it makes. I may have to look at a onyx roller hub
I understand totally. I was on Onyx hubs for about 1.5 years. I liked the dead silence but they also had some downsides. I don’t mind this sound as much as an I9 hub which I also ran. Also, the audio for the comparison was recorded with a quality directional mic so it Is really defined and clear.
No video about it. They were great and pretty reliable. The clutch system was good the whole time and didn't cause any issues. I found the bearings wore extremely fast and the locking ends came loose often. They were very heavy and the instant engagement was almost too much, there was a lot of pedal feedback because the slightest movement forward grabbed and so in rough sections it would be amplified a lot.
The Hopes I think have the loudest engagement or all. I love that sound, helps warn hikers as I don't wanna use a bell ... But yeah, IMO the Hopes are almost too loud and I could see it getting annoying.
