That's the best , most delicious, bass playing EVER. No question! Paul is the man!!!! Thank you so much Paul for sharing these magical treats ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
I remember the first time seeing you in the Damned at the Russell Club in Manchester. You'd only just joined them and you'd just done some Italian dates, I think. I'd seen you previously in Eddie and the Hot Rods, supported by Radio Stars and Squeeze but it came as a big surprise seeing you in my favourite band. It knocked me out that you instantly stamped your sound, style and authority on everything instead of just copying what had gone before. it started me on the road to playing Rickenbacker Bass. Never had the opportunity to say it before, but thanks. Best Damned line-up, ever.
You're playing like a bass guitarist, not just a bass player. This is inspirational. Limit Club was brilliant on the EP. Always loved that chunky sound.
Watching this was moving, there's no other way to describe it. The bass line in that whole song was the hidden masterpiece on the entire album, which was a huge influence on me in the 80's. Well played sir, bravo!
you will always be my favourite bass player in the world !!! still got the "flashmen society" badge you gave me in berlin.gee long time ago , damned but not forgotten!
Paul, just so you know, when you were in The Damned, every minute the band released was classic. Everyone knows that was the golden era, and all of it all was built on your rampaging but melodic style. Bryn looks like a lovely guy and I know you're mates but I think him (and Roman) were hopelessly out-of-their depth following you & Cap. Anyway, take care and thanks man.
Wow, loving the bass, bit of a player myself and my biggest regret has always been trading my 70s fender jazz. Bought you and captains album and really enjoyed it, especially queen for a day, top tune, All the best Paul Alan.
Good stuff Paul. You happen to special to me,as you were in two of my favourite bands of all time. The ridiculously under appreciated Damned, and also in many ways UFO.
Longtime musical hero of mine. Glad to see you again, best luck with the new album! Would love to see vids on all your clever, tasteful yet always propulsive lines. Cheers!
Listen to the outro for this song on The Black Album. Song's good, don't know why it was hardly, if ever, done live. But the outro on the lp is amazing. Good production, everything tails off nicely in the fade out, Rat's drums, Paul's bass both working away. The Captain's in his glory. Psychedelic : )
Nothing wrong with those 'powers of recall'?! Re: the bass run/riff before Vanian comes in - was that deliberately meant to have a similarity to 'Love Song'? CHEERS, Paul! 👍😃🎸
Hi Paul, We first met in Blackburn the night after John Lennon was shot. I asked to look at your fingers,as mine had no fingerprints at the time from so much Bass practice. You were a little worried, but we did compare digits in the end. The Blue & White Rick you played that night was the most gorgeous guitar I'd ever seen! Hope everything works out OK for you & thank you for sharing this wonderful video :) Sincerely all the best mate, Dog (from Blackburn)
Paul, you were the highlight on the Black Album and Strawberries. As other commentators have said - best Damned line-up EVER.

So glad I found this my most favourite song, what a great idea you had with this song.
One of my Bass heroes. Wish I had a 4001😪

love that. What picks do you use? You make a great bang.
Class. Tune that inspired me to try the bass. Still can't play the fucker.
Azureglo!!!!!!!! How many old Ricks do you have :O
When you recorded it ... did anyone say "Sounds a bit like Love Song " ?
Is there such a thing as a Damned bass tabs collection ?
Make more videos
ta Mike...so how do ya do that then?!
Technique question Paul. How had or light do you go with your picking hand?
hard...plenty of attack!
And say wot ?
What year is this bass?
Wait a minute , this isn’t slipknot
