I just bought a battery at Walmart for $119 then I found out for the same size it was sold at Costco for $76. Core was $12 at Walmart versus $15 at Costco. I decided to take it back to Walmart for a refund.
Yo Whycare, Setting the price aside, based on viewers comments below, I think you made a wise decision. Costco's customer service, and the fact they do not test batteries being returned as defective is reason enough in my book. Thanks for watching, and the good feedback. -Chuck
Almost 100 subscribers Chuck! Good video. I just bought a Never Start Maxx this week for my daughter's Cruze. That's the 4th Maxx I've bought. Great battery and warranty. I've also purchased Deka batteries which are similarly priced.
Yeah almost 100, but I think 70 of them are "click farm bots". lol This was my first Walmart battery purchase. I bought a Deka battery a few years ago for my motorcycle on eBay. It was about half the price my local H-D dealership was charging. It worked out just fine.
both made by the same company but costco interstate batteries are like $30- $40 cheaper than the walmart "ever start " one. Maybe not cheaper in other states but in houston , texas the interstate one is cheaper
I just tried replacing a EverStart H7 800CCA battery at my local Walmart after just having it for 2 years, the 3/5 year warranty does not work. The customer service employee at the store just said it was out of warranty and would not be able to furnish me with a new one. They spent an hour and half testing it just to tell me it was bad but not covered under warranty. Avoid buying car batteries at Walmart its a scam.
Yo Amilkar, Thanks for the good feedback. I would try calling 1 (800) 925-6278 (Walmart Customer Service), and tell them just what you told me. That's just not right. -Chuck
Actually they have updated the EVERMAXX EVERSTART 65 to a sealed battery 5 yr warranty and dropped CCA to 750 and i was able to get 850CCA model but only has 3yr warranty but need the extra CCA for a Diesel Truck.
I like the Walmart brand just because of the warranty, and when it has fell on me they have replace it. No questions usually I go just before the customer service center close for the day.
I just bought me a fresh wally world battree for sammy the samurai today. It cranked over so fast it almost threw the worn out rods out of the block. The old ever start had a sticker on it from 3/10. It was flatlined.
I bought a EverStart battery at Walmart on in May 2016 for my RV. I hadn’t started my motor home for 2 years. I couldn’t even jump start it the other day. So I took the battery back to Walmart for either another one or to charge it. They didn’t want to help me at all. They told me to call the manufacture of the battery. I did and came back in there to tell the nasty customer service guy about what they told me. He flat said he didn’t want to talk to them or me. He called a manager and at first he didn’t want to do anything. After a bit he finally got me another battery but I had to pay a pro rated fee because it was a 5 year battery. You get a free one if it fails within 3 years but after 3 years it’s pro rated up to the 5 year mark. The nasty customer service rep. said Walmart needs to quit selling auto batteries. Well, I agree on that. I’ll just buy another one at Costco. No more Walmart batteries for me.
Yo Tom, Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like we've learned to stop buying our batteries at Walmart, and start buying them from Costco. I hope I never have to deal with Walmart customer service on this battery. Lol -Chuck
I had the same experience only my battery was only 1 year old. The battery was replaced but only after i had to make a big deal to the manager. Walmart shouldn't sell battery's.
I just get the Autocraft Gold batteries from Advance Auto Parts. When the warranty period is up, I buy a new battery. I don't wait for it to die. No problems or worries in the winter :) Honestly, I've never had a battery die under the battery warranty period. The again, I don't buy cheap batteries.
Hey Chuck, did you keep your old batteries? If you gave the old batteries back to Walmart and Costco, then you shouldn't have been charged the core fees of $15 and $12. The last battery that I bought was a Sears Diehard gold maintenance free battery and was not charged a core fee as I gave Sears my old battery. Johnson Controls makes Sears Diehard batteries, and they make batteries for more than 20 other brands as well. Johnson Controls sells more than half of the batteries sold in the USA. Exide and East Penn are the other two main manufacturers of batteries sold.
Hey Frank, As luck would have it my local waste management agency was having a free E-Waste collection day. They put a flyer on my garage door that said to leave E-Waste items curbside the night before, and they would pick them up free of charge the next morning. On the day of collection at 4:00AM I woke up early, and like a thief in the night I went up, and down my street looking for old car batteries. It didn't take long for me to collect 4 different car batteries. I used the ones I "found" for my cores. Walmart, and Costco charges the core fee regardless, and processes the core refund as a separate transaction. I did this because I wanted to experiment with my 9-10 year old batteries. After I was done with my experiments, I returned all the batteries to my local AutoZone, and they gave me (4) $15 Autozone Gift Cards ($60 total). Not bad for a few minutes of cat burglar antics. Chuck
I had a 2007 platinum edition limited sonata and it came with an interstate battery, after 3 years it died, guy told me my car eats batteries, but as long as you own your car interstate replaced it free for next 7years,when I sold it
So moral of the story by the coscto battery and just make sure you replace them before 3.5 years and keep getting free battery's since they don't check the voltage and ask no questions I've had a Walmart battery for over 6 years paid 60 bucks it's run better then my 300$ optima yellow top battery but I got my mom a Walmart battery brand new Installed it didn't work so brought it right back in less then an hour they teated it said it was low but not low enough that thell return it there warranty is bs thank God I went to another Walmart that didn't have a auto center amd they didn't have a tester and refunded me my money
My battery in my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis LS when I bought it last July its only a year old the battery is from aaa. It started not make any sound when I turn the key or when I would unlock the car with a key fob went to a battery shop they said it's fine did a test too. It started acting up it again a few days ago after a month of not doing it anymore. I gonna go to firestone & get the interstate one but if its not the battery then I just wasted 100 plus for nothing my neighbour that helps me with my car thinks it's a ground problem
Yo Captain, Don't feel too bad, this is a very common problem. You neighbor sounds like he might be onto something. Before replacing parts, have the battery recharged outside the car, and load tested, (they cost $20 at Harbor Freight). Next make sure both battery cables are tight. Next check the alternator, (voltmeters cost $4 at Harbor Freight). Next give your engine bay a good visual inspection with a bright flashlight. Look for damaged, broken wires, or wire looms, evidence of mice etc. That should keep you busy for a while. Let me know how you get on. -Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform update went to an auto electrician shop I found out it was the a 129 dual dash camera i didn't used the kit that we have to pay until now. I gave him the hardwire kit so far no problem but the cam keeps turning off after i take key out so I'm thinking putting the cigarette adapter back in too
I've had good luck with the Ever Start batteries in my other cars over the years. I just replaced the Motorcraft battery in November of 2020 it was only a year old when I bought my Vic back in 2014. The Motorcraft lasted me 8 years, but it costs about $150 compared to $80 for the Ever Start. I'm curious to see how long the Ever Start holds up to the Motorcraft battery over the course of it's life.
Right on JT, Thanks for the good feedback. These two are nearing the end of their free replacement warranty. Maybe I'll do a Load Test Shootout? -Chuck
I sent my wife to Walmart today to get the maxx battery that takes distilled water. She came back with a maintenance free battery. What do you guys feel about these kind of batteries?
Yo Jay G. Your wife sounds like a keeper, to schlep a 30lbs battery back home for you. Thanks for clicking, and the great question. I’ll need more information to give you my flawed opinion. What vehicle is the battery for YEAR / MAKE / MODEL? I ask because depending on where the battery is located it may make a difference. Also, are you the type of DIY guy that likes to keep up on the maintenance of your vehicle? I ask because, you may like having the option of checking, and adding distilled water as necessary. Both sealed maintenance free, and traditional batteries with removable vent caps have their Pro & Cons. If the battery is installed in a somewhat inaccessible location, a maintenance free battery may be in order. However, if the battery is installed in a location where it’s easy, and painless to pop the caps, and check on the water every so often. I prefer the traditional style. And a quick word on Walmart’s customer service on battery warranties. I’ve been buying car batteries for quite some time now, and in the past it seemed like you could get a quality battery, and expect to be treated fairly during the warranty period. Boy, how times have changed. It seems like manufacturer’s, and retailers are providing the cheapest possible materials, and construction methods to deliver a barely adequate product. Along with more a more difficult warranty procedure, and a less accurate testing method. Based on this, and the comments down below I’m starting to like the Costco battery more, and more. 1.) They offer a 100% refund if the batter fails during the warranty period. No confusing calculated pro-rata credit towards the purchase of another battery from the same retailer. 2.) They have no testing procedure to deny a warranty claim. They simply take your word for it. I feel this is important, because when the industry discarded the old way of testing a battery with a hydrometer to check the specific gravity of the sulfuric acid/water solution of each cell, and then recharged the battery before putting the battery on an actual load tester, they reduced the accuracy of the testing procedure. -Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform I just had knee replacement and that is why I sent the wife off by herself. No she didn't have to lift the battery. Walmart put the battery in her trunk and she went to O'Reilly where we bought the battery and they took it back. I bought a Costco battery for my 1979 RX-7. Easy to install in this car. It can open for distilled water. I prefer that kind of battery. The wife's car is a 2005 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder. Inherited from my mom after her death. Has few miles on it.

Anyone with money nanagement skills will go the economy route. Great vidieo, back on the 80s the AC Delco was one of the best and yea the old school testers are the best a true load device not just a stored amp and voltage test. Core prices are just going to go up for difficult to recycle parts.
Right on John, Thanks for watching. Nothing beats the old VAT-40 for load testing a battery. But it requires a qualified individual to man the knobs. lol -Chuck
Yo Frank, This is awkward. I see you left this comment over a year ago. And I'm sure I replied at that time. But RUclips keeps sending me notifications that I have not replied yet. Sorry for the trouble. -Chuck
Hey Chuck, there is no problem. You always respond to comments, and maybe your response got deleted somehow. I should offer congratulations again, as your channel now has over 1.38k subscribers!!! Batteries sure have gone up in price since you bought these back in 2018. I bought a battery in August of 2020 at AutoZone. It was their best one, a Duralast Gold, with 850 cold cranking amps for the cold winters in Maryland. The out the door price was $171.99.
Very confused, you keep mentioning an 8 year old battery but then that you keep saying 2018, so the question is why would you be replacing a battery on a 2018 vehicle that doesn't make any sense at all. If I'm misunderstanding the video I apologize
Yo Marino, Thanks for watching. Yeah, I think I screwed up. My Crown Vic is a 2004. My Grand Marquis is a 2010. The costco battery replaced the 8 year old battery in my Grand Marquis. The Walmart battery replaced the 2nd battery in my Crown Vic a year earlier. -Chuck
...well, for me, this choice is obvious..Walmart...there isn't a Costco around here..for hundreds of miles...there's a Walmart 8 miles away 4 more 20 miles away...probably 25 of them within a 50 mile radius...and probably 50 of them between me and the nearest Costco...
I put a 24F battery in my q50 and everything in my car turns on but the engine, when I try to start it the car clicks once and doesn’t turn on. The recommended battery size for a q50 is a 35, does it matter?
Thanks for this Video. I'd always bought batteries different places and never went for the High End OPtima, though I'm always tempted. POint is, I ended up getting a costco battery once and I never thought about it again. They're reliable. Never had a bad start. The first one that did "seemingly" start failing was right around 3 year 2 months and I brought it in and, just like you said, they told me my warranty was still good, "here's a new one". No questions asked. Now I am coming up on year 3 again and the battery is sending a low voltage error code. I don't mistreat them either (keep 'em clean, locked down, don't run more on it than it can handle),I called them up today to make sure the warranty was still good and they told me to roll on in and get a new one. Is it the best battery? No, not the best, but not the worsed, but that warranty can't be beat in my opinion. Hassle free. I've told myself I should just replace it at 3 years regardless, but it happens the last two seem to "know" their limits somehow and start too fail right around the time the end ofthe warranty happens so I'll keep coming back to get teh same one until it either catastrophically fails or I can afford a ridiculously expensive, ultra dependable one. So far, I have nothing bad to say abut them. ...and thumbs up.
Yo Vader, Thanks for watching, and the good feedback. If you scroll down in the comment section, you’ll find a completely different customer service experience at Walmart. You’ll also find someone said Costco has recently changed battery suppliers, or the company that made them has now been bought out. And the Costco warranty has reflected that, by dropping from 3.5 years to only 3 years. Why can’t we have the good old days, when you could count on a company to at least have a shred of morality, instead of pumping out the cheapest possible products. Do you remember when you could get a “lifetime warranty” car battery from JC Penny’s? lol -Chuck P.S. RUclips doesn’t charge extra for paragraphs. I had trouble making it though your comment, because I’m simple.
Yo Bill, Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. This is the main reason I chose to get a from Costco. Their battery warranty process is 100% refund for 3.5 years. No prorated warranty of any kind. No testing requirements. No questions asked. Just 100% of your full purchase price in the form of a refund. I don't think it gets any easier than that. -Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform and Costco's warranty is 3 years not 3.5 I'm shopping for a battery now AAA may be the best way to go a little more than Costco and Walmart but cheaper than auto parts stores and they come to you and install no carting batteries to and fro
The sticker on my Costco battery says 42 month warranty, so I guess they changed, that sucks. AAA batteries are pretty good. That was the battery I replaced with the Walmart battery in the video. It was in my 2004 Crown Vic from 2009-2018. So, it was 9 years old, and it was still good. But I just replaced it anyways because I didn't want to get stranded. I called AAA for a replacement just before I bought the Walmart battery, and they said $180 installed. Sheesh. By the way, what vehicle are you currently battery shopping for? -Chuck

Good video. I just bought a Never Start Maxx this week for my daughter's Cruze. That's the 4th Maxx I've bought. Great battery and warranty.
I've also purchased Deka batteries which are similarly priced.
Yeah almost 100, but I think 70 of them are "click farm bots". lol
This was my first Walmart battery purchase.
I bought a Deka battery a few years ago for my motorcycle on eBay.
It was about half the price my local H-D dealership was charging.
It worked out just fine.
Just came across this, I've seen Interstate Megatron batteries that are still running 12 years later.
Right on Nate Dog,
Thanks for the good feedback.

Everstart installed in Hyundai Santa fe lasted 5 years 2 months. Best bang for the buck.
Yo MT,
Thanks for watching.
-Chuck
both made by the same company but costco interstate batteries are like $30- $40 cheaper than the walmart "ever start " one. Maybe not cheaper in other states but in houston , texas the interstate one is cheaper
Yo John,
Thanks for watching, and the good feedback.

Yo Amilkar,
Thanks for the good feedback.
I would try calling 1 (800) 925-6278 (Walmart Customer Service), and tell them just what you told me.
That's just not right.
-Chuck
If you can buy your batteries at Costco. They don't give you a hard time when you need to replace them.
Actually they have updated the EVERMAXX EVERSTART 65 to a sealed battery 5 yr warranty and dropped CCA to 750 and i was able to get 850CCA model but only has 3yr warranty but need the extra CCA for a Diesel Truck.
Right on Dolo,

i just went to walmart and their everstart battery was $20 more than the same one at costco
Right on Dram,

I like the Walmart brand just because of the warranty, and when it has fell on me they have replace it. No questions usually I go just before the customer service center close for the day.

I just bought me a fresh wally world battree for sammy the samurai today. It cranked over so fast it almost threw the worn out rods out of the block. The old ever start had a sticker on it from 3/10. It was flatlined.
You Rebel.
Why didn't you get a Costco Battery?
That's what most everyone recommends in the comments down below.
-Chuck
@@PanzerPlatform I've had costco batteries before. They were meh, at best.
Yo Tom,
Thanks for the feedback.
It sounds like we've learned to stop buying our batteries at Walmart, and start buying them from Costco.
I hope I never have to deal with Walmart customer service on this battery. Lol
-Chuck
I had the same experience only my battery was only 1 year old. The battery was replaced but only after i had to make a big deal to the manager. Walmart shouldn't sell battery's.
I did what any normal person would do and I walked away 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yo Berfin,
Thanks for making it that far into the video.
-Chuck
Best line ever!
Yo Rzr,
Thanks for the feedback.
I'm a fan of replacing batteries before they fail.
-Chuck
Hey Chuck, did you keep your old batteries? If you gave the old batteries back to Walmart and Costco, then you shouldn't have been charged the core fees of $15 and $12. The last battery that I bought was a Sears Diehard gold maintenance free battery and was not charged a core fee as I gave Sears my old battery.
Johnson Controls makes Sears Diehard batteries, and they make batteries for more than 20 other brands as well. Johnson Controls sells more than half of the batteries sold in the USA. Exide and East Penn are the other two main manufacturers of batteries sold.
Hey Frank,
As luck would have it my local waste management agency was having a free E-Waste collection day.
Chuck
I had a 2007 platinum edition limited sonata and it came with an interstate battery, after 3 years it died, guy told me my car eats batteries, but as long as you own your car interstate replaced it free for next 7years,when I sold it
Right on Ken,
Thanks for watching, and the good feedback.
-Chuck
So moral of the story by the coscto battery and just make sure you replace them before 3.5 years and keep getting free battery's since they don't check the voltage and ask no questions I've had a Walmart battery for over 6 years paid 60 bucks it's run better then my 300$ optima yellow top battery but I got my mom a Walmart battery brand new Installed it didn't work so brought it right back in less then an hour they teated it said it was low but not low enough that thell return it there warranty is bs thank God I went to another Walmart that didn't have a auto center amd they didn't have a tester and refunded me my money
Right on Johnny,
Thanks for watching, and the good feedback.
I don't think anyone will argue Costco just has better customer service. Lol

Yo Captain,
Don't feel too bad, this is a very common problem.

@@PanzerPlatform update went to an auto electrician shop I found out it was the a 129 dual dash camera i didn't used the kit that we have to pay until now.
Right on JT,
Thanks for the good feedback.
These two are nearing the end of their free replacement warranty.
Maybe I'll do a Load Test Shootout?

Yo Marino,
Thanks for watching.
Yeah, I think I screwed up.
My Crown Vic is a 2004.
My Grand Marquis is a 2010.
The costco battery replaced the 8 year old battery in my Grand Marquis.
The Walmart battery replaced the 2nd battery in my Crown Vic a year earlier.

...well, for me, this choice is obvious..Walmart...there isn't a Costco around here..for hundreds of miles...there's a Walmart 8 miles away 4 more 20 miles away...probably 25 of them within a 50 mile radius...and probably 50 of them between me and the nearest Costco...

Good job.
Yo Vader,
Thanks for watching, and the good feedback.
Do you remember when you could get a “lifetime warranty” car battery from JC Penny’s? lol
-Chuck
P.S. RUclips doesn’t charge extra for paragraphs.

I HAD WALMART REFUSE TO WARRANTY A BATTERY BECAUSE THE CAPS WHERE REMOVED AT SOME TIME.
Yo Bill,
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.
