Nice to see some videos in the 'Dacks. Brings back memories of the 60's and 70's. It was always a thrill catching otter and fisher. I remember when I used to use conibears and footholds as my go to traps. Hard to believe that I made the switch from conventional traps to cage traps. I know most think of a cage as a slow, single door gravity operated pan trap, but those days are history. The newest double, powered door cage traps with wire triggers open a whole new experience in trapping for many furbearers. Using a trap that can sometimes take two otter at a time is hard to beat. As for beaver, they second in seconds and when fired usually hold a beaver, otter or muskrat.
My boy and I trap otter every year we only target 10 it's no limit but we only take 10 we trap more for recreation and subsistence. My cousin who sews takes the pelts and makes mittens of pilugguqs which are like moccasins for the artic.
It’s actually pretty easy up here in the Adirondacks- so many streams / creaks / ponds / rivers. On sunny days This time of year I see otters playing or basking on the ice very commonly along my commute to where I was coyote trapping.
That's awesome! Cool catches! It's always nice to see someone trap otters! I've only caught one in all the years I've been trapping. LOL! Nice mink too! Stay safe out there Garrett!
Another nice video, with some real nice otters! No season for them where I am at, but hopefully will get on some up north next season. Trying to find some beaver trapping spots now, maybe catch the last week of the season up north, depending on the weather. Oh, and I didn't connect on a coyote this year either.
Hey Dave - ADK stands for the Adirondack Preserve in Northern New York. I’m about an hour drive from the Canadian border. I’m in a little mountain town called Tupper lake
Beautiful otters and mink buddy! Sorry you didn't catch any coyotes! I hope you'll check out my coyote trapping videos! Good luck with everything my friend!
I am trying to get coyotes out of my head right now but tell you what man I’ve got your vids bookmarked as part of my study guide before next trapping season. 30 yotes is insane…I am sure doesn’t happen by luck.
PS - Congrats on breaking your records this season, I have watched a few of your videos and RUclips makes sure they are always in my recommended feed haha
@@TheADKTrapper Lol thank you for supporting buddy! If you ever need anything just ask I'll try to answer you best I can or point you to someone who can! I learned most of what I know from RUclips the rest on the line!
@@MarkJLarsonOutdoors On that note I do have one question. Bought a bunch of lures toward the end of the season. fox urine, coyote urine, various gland lures, general predator gland lure as well as coyote gland lures. all from fntpost Had limited time to actually experiment with them but noticed from the story told by coyote tracks - the coyotes certainly would have been able to smell it but didn’t seem to care. Gray foxes running around also seemed disinterested to the scents. Like everything Just kind of stuck to their route… I understand some guys are very particular about the type of lures and brands of urine they use due to quality differences, etc. So here is my long winded question: Do you have any go to brands or specific “top shelf” lures that you swear by? Any strong opinions on that matter in particular? Is a dime sized glob of lure too much? I keep reading “less is more” but at the same time have kept things pretty simple. Am I overthinking it? I was just surprised that the only scent I successfully used to peak a coyote’s interest this season was with red fox urine. Possible some of the others could have peaked their interest without me noticing, but I’m going to play around this summer with lures and trail cameras, so just curious if you have any tips on any of that as I get into it
@@TheADKTrapper I can tell you that I don't use any urine because it attracts deer and that was told to me from a well known lure manufacturer but this season I used Dunlap's Soul Taker, Hoosier Trapping supplies Topdog Arctic, Cavens Hiawatha Valley and Trapper J All Predator for baits and I used Dunlap's Hellfire, Cavens Gusto, for lures. Not sure if any produced more than the other wish I would have written it down!
