Binge watching through some albatross live shows. Awesome performance this one. However it is almost like the drummer is playing himself than the song in the older songs. His playing sometimes doesn’t do justice to the melody of the songs. He rushes through the fills but catches the tempo again. His playing is very nonchalant about the groove of the song which is sometimes annoying. Don’t get me wrong. He’s a master drummer. He’s super technical and talented. I can understand the direction he’s doing with his instrument. His new songs have very unique licks and beats. Very albatross-esque. It’s just the older songs… maybe I’m wrong. If I remember correctly, the similar thing happened to Pearl Jam with Abbruzzese before they hire Matt. Brilliant drummer but he played himself than the song if you know what I mean.
