Embrace, Extend, Extinguish. This is terrifying. The statement of being the "stewards" really puts a bad taste in my mouth. That could be because I already know it's Microsoft but with a platform as open as GitHub I honestly cannot imagine ANYONE who wants to buy it out for so much having good intent. But most of all it terrifies me because they feel like buying up the open source world is a more important venture than actually improving the user experience of their own OS, the core of the user experience. The slow start menu, the ads in explorer even on paid versions, the forced settings reset every update, no theming options, no detailed privilege escalation (like mobile OSes)... There are so many things they could do to change the way I feel about them yet I've seen zero actual interest from them in improving their own product. Instead they acquire and poison other's.
everything they bought in the recent years is gone into the shitter.... hardwarewise, softwarewise, gaming wise... the only "good thing" microsoft archieved with this - "github star development" is no more, after seeing that gitlab struggles today because everyone migrates right now 😂 (also big guys like GNOME)
