Terry's death has absolutely devastated me. One of my earliest memories is sitting in the car with my dad driving and playing The Specials at full volume. As I got older, I discovered all of Terry's other work. His lyrics and melodies are just totally unique and hit you like nothing else. I have always regarded him as criminally underrated and think he should have had a much much bigger solo career than he did. During a very long ultra marathon I did this year, I played Virgins and Philistines over and over for hours and I remember finding something new in each song with each playthrough of the album. I'll always remember that. The tunes on that album, like practically all the songs featuring Terry, never get boring. Thank you for changing my life Terry, gone far too soon

So sad to hear this today after hearing the news of Terry's passing. The quality and variety of Terry's output was phenomenal, a true legend. Is also sad that more people especially more recently didn't appreciate his mighty talent. Like this song, it should have been a huge it, its gorgeous. RIP Terry.
A gorgeous song. I think it's about the way that, maybe once in a lifetime, you have your world turned-over by someone who you would give anything, do anything, and forgo anything for. Complete utter helpless love, which both strengthens and consumes us in it's fire.

When this song came out and the entire album I’d add, absolutely loved it. Was like Bridget Bardot had resurfaced in the south of France . Was pure 60’s as has been commented on before.
This was one of two songs on a break up tape from my first ever boyfriend that I was grateful for. The other was Suzanne Vega "In Liverpool" where I lived at the time and where we met. At the time I was not able to see what was happening. If I had I would have shown him how close I was to becoming a proctologist by putting the tape where the sun doesn't shine. However we are all wise in hindsight. Though both of those were some time ago now. Ah first love both bliss and torture. Even now though I still have a special place in my heart for him as he showed me, at the time, that there are people out there who find me attractive, when I thought I wasn't Something I will always be grateful for. If we bumped into each other now I would thank him for that. Even now I wonder what became of him. I hope he is healthy happy and in a loving relationship that makes his life whole. PS: If he is here and reads this just let me know using your name and where we met. I would love to hear how things have turned out for you. I know it is a long shot but sometimes they do pay off.
I love Terry Hall and Forever J is one of my favourites. I revisited his Richard Herring interview this week and laughed when he said it was about his wife, and how she divorced him soon after he made the record. Richard Herring told him he could be a comedian and he was right. He could have done anything. Heartbreaking to hear him talking about his childhood and how it affected him. RIP Terry. X
