Aphex Twin has one of the most diverse discographies not only in terms of variety of sound, but also the sheer range of emotions that are explored in his music. I really hope you check out more of his stuff. Here are some suggestions: Vordhosbn, Alberto Balsalm, Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michaels Mount and Windowlicker.
i am so late here, and i wouldn't usually leave a comment on something 3 years old, but you are so right man! AT has such a broad variety of sounds, from death metal stuff like come to daddy, all the way to relaxing tranquil music like xtal, or fingerbib. richard is a true master of synth and even his drum work is out of this world.
Yes now you're down a very interesting rabbit hole, hope you'll do a lot more electronic music cause it has so much to offer! From old school Trance to Techno, House and Drum n' Bass, there's so much unique and beautiful music that provide more variety and soulful atmosphere than any other music style. This track is honestly more annoying and dated than a lot of other tracks Aphex have, he's got some seriously mindblowing masterpieces. For his more technical, atmospheric and advanced tracks you have to check out Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michaels Mount, that's pinnacle Aphex Twin right there where he combines incredible breakcore with lush and beautiful synth chords. He also did pure ambient music back in the day and it's mesmerizing, Rhubarb is one of his finest moments. Breathtaking. Fuck I'll just have to become a member on patreon at this point there's just so much to recommend since electronic music is my preferred style of music along with 80's metal and I'd love to see your reactions to Autechre and Boards of Canada for example as well. A lot of metalheads love electronic music, I think it's because both styles have a way of teleporting you to another dimension of carefree fun and they allow you to immerse yourself and soak in the atmosphere, whether it's warm and cozy or dark, cold and intimidating, they both have a way of providing beautiful melodies, great beats and inredible sound design.
OMG! ! Duude!! Aphex Twin is amazing! It's a totally different world! There are so many bands in the IDM (intelligent dance music) genre. Welcome to Richard James' world😆 Try also, early Speedy J, Autechre and Boards of Canada. Awesome music.
Love Aphex Twin! Richard D James is a genius and has a variety of styles, i believe Come To Daddy was intended to make fun of the prodigy and firestarter which was pretty big at the time. I'd also say to check out Windowlicker, Rubber Johnny, Come as you Mean to go on, and ventolin. I would also maybe recommend some of his ambient tracks, which are by far by fav from him. Alberto Balsam, Xtal, Heliospan, Tha... hell anything off Selected ambient works albums..
Rubber Johnny is awesome! I used to put that video on my MySpace page back in the day around Halloween. I showed Rubber Johnny and Windowlicker to a friend years ago and freaked him out. Lol
Glad you liked my choice. Also, it's funny you mention the Blade soundtrack because there's an Aphex Twin song right before the blood rave. It's called UT1 -- dot by Polygon Window. That's one of his other names.
Subbed, I hope you do alot more electronica. This was the freakiest thing I ever saw as a child, I never ever EVER imagined I'd end up thinking it was the amazing track I think it is when I got older. Aphex is a genuine legend who does what he wants whenever he wants, never compromises, puts out stuff that only he would think of making. That poor granny though 😭 If you want another mental kind of thing, video necessary, Massive Attack - Voodoo in my blood. Bopping tune with a great video starring the girl from Gone Girl. Come to Daddy came out about 94/95 btw.
I love how you soak up the sound and not even watch the video half the time. Big recommendation: listen to the album Syro (also by Aphex Twin, who is a single brittish guy by the way). His sound production is SO GOOD on that album. Listening to it with headphones is such an experience. Songs like “XMAS_EVET10 [120][thanaton3 mix]” are an absolute journey, HIGHLY recommended, especially with how you appreciate sound so much. Album actually won a grammy too, lol.
a lot of d'n'b musicians was inspired by aphex twin, but he's music is IDM ,not drum and bass. also check some Xanopticon - Liminal Space album. it sounds like this song, but on huge steroids
i dunno its an evolution inspired from many spreads of UK music culture ,art of noise was ahead of times time using dubplate style sounds and that evolved other artists to inspire toodn tha twas in th early 80s
Thanks to Don Piano for continuing to share this incredible, bad-ass collaboration of Aphex Twin and Chris Cunningham to as many people as poosible... The only song scarier is the "Little Lord Fauntleroy" mix of this song from the Come to Daddy EP. Somehow its 2000x creepier.... :)
Interesting I was laughing cuz u said these guys and it’s just one guy….then I started thinking he is like a music schizophrenic then looking at the video I’m like ahhh 😂 it’s always multiples of him😂
This track was a parody of death metal and a piss take of the whole techno genre of the time. Rich is a composer of the absolute highest order, from sound design, hardware design, melodies and for sheer creativity, he pretty much stands alone. He grew up in Cornwall (Lanner) about two miles from my house. It’s very isolated down here in the SW corner of the UK I suspect his isolation fuelled his creative endeavours and forged perhaps the greatest electronic artist of our time.. You should definitely check out his catalogue, so diverse and well.. Genius really. With ❤️ from Kernow..
this was my take too, missed out on the other artist Chris Cunningham in this project, one that is behind the visuals. To his excuse his probably being overpowered by the auditory information and could have a look when everything slows down to him?
If you like drum and bass, this genre (IDM or "intelligent dance music") and the whole Blade Runner aesthetic then you've *GOT TO* check out _Squarepusher - Come on my Selector_ . Great song and an awesome video directed by the same guy as Come to Daddy (Chris Cunningham)
Dope when you said you used to listened to a lot of drum & bass, even doper when you said you were friends with Le Castle Vania!!! So sick!! I agree with the other comments tho electronic music has soooo much to offer, should start diving into the genres!!!
Come To Daddy was written as an example of how easy it actually is to make a track like Firestarter. Try beaucifolous bouncing ball from the same ep. It’s wild.
fun fact.... every bar in this song has a different drum pattern... he wanted to see if he could make a song with 4/4 time but have a differing pattern all the time...
Aphex Twin got me interested in electronic music because he showed me how bizarre and creative it can get. Yeah he took some drum'n''bass sounds here but he runs it through his fucked up brain and augments everything into something strange and disturbing.
When I was working graveyards on MTV this track played every night for a while. So surreal and freaky at 0200 when you are trying to stay awake. Great track. This and Risingson by Massive Attack.
Check out the Richard D. James album I heard that this track was supposed to be mocking heavy metal or something. He’s a really diverse musician though so definitely check him out. He’s got songs that are just piano, like the song kesson daslef or something like that, I probably butchered the spelling. I think he’s been around since the mid 80s
The problem is that if it sounded "better" as you suggest , it would be a lot less experimental. So my thought is, what the point of experimental is if it can sound "better and more organized"? It makes no sense. Experimental is the try of humans to get away from expectations, predictions, organisation and "better". If not it sounds utterly boring and "between worlds". Few things are more boring than experimental music that has been overpolished and overorganised afterwards There was only one specific person who created this track, the only way that was possible at the specific moment it was created , it reached legendary "underground-breakcore,DnB" (improvised description) music status and yet here we are 24 years later suggesting it could be "better". I am really no fanboy of Afx or anything but this is one of the tracks where i think "who cares if it sounds like this or like that. I would never wish for it to be different than it is. You got other artists for this" This is not meant as an attack, only an honest reaction (literally) to the video.
WHOA! Did you seriously NOT watch the video? This is one of the most visually stunning, creative, ACCLAIMED music videos of all time! I was so excited to finally see someone react to this MUSIC VIDEO, yes the music is fantastic but with this particular track and EVERYONE who knows the video, it's ALL about the video. Directed by Chris Cunningham yo! Super disappointed, this was the era when Visual Art and Music came together 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
High contrast (1st two albums at least), london elek, bad company, klute, photek to say a few, loads of decent DnB from the 00s. Drum and bass kept evolving as did the production in the 00s. I wouldn't say any of this is new now though in 2022! Brostep is typically what is referred to as what americans did with with what was a largely south london scene known as dubstep all went too aggressive and mid range wobbles with skrillex and the like as they took the dub out and replaced it with more of an aggressive, soulless, production lead heavy metal sound but on synths all around 140 bpm not the 170/175 bpm of DnB.
the term of electronica is so vague... it's just slapped on every piece of electronic music that is bending genres and you aren't able to pin point where it belongs...
How are you going to do a reaction to a video when your eyes are closing you’re looking down 80% of the time through all of the lost important parts? And just dismiss it as drum and bass. Sorry I clicked on this
apex and nine inch nails use to collab all the time back in the day in fact he remixed so many songs for the downward spiral i miss the 90s what happened trent needs to colab with apex again i can see them doing somthing on a how tovdestroy angels project or a nin album as well.
I woke up to this video on the tv one night and was freaked the hell out. When MTV still rocked
I used it as my alarm
LOL
Jeez man I imagine that...
I saw it on mushrooms the first time, I'm there with you bro.
@@spacetrucker2196 I still have flashbacks to that!!! The entire room flashing and you don’t know if you are awake or not…good lord
you've never heard anything like his song Windowlicker.

Despite being almost a quarter century old this track still sounds fresh and pretty modern even in 2021.

FIRST! And hell yes! More EDM, please!
Dude, I would love to add more EDM to the channel. That would be an interesting mix up
You mentioned Prodigy... I have another artist name for you: The Crystal Method.
eww dont call this EDM :( * beacuse the phrase EDM is modern and was used for modern 2010+ trash *
Lololol do Windowlicker next!
Also Squarepusher - Come on my selector
5:15 to 6:05 is my favourite part of the whole song, LOVE IT!

You mean Bucephalus Bouncing Ball. It's sick, man. Agreed.
The Mummy Mix on the EP has a hilariously nuts sub bass too, love that whole record
Released the Same Year: 1997.
Dillinger escape plan did a cover of this with mike patton singing sick👍
Do Aphex Twin - Windowlicker. Video and tune = masterpiece
I appreciate that you dig the music. Too bad that you missed the video almost entirely.
I’ve seen it so many times since this video. I’ve become a pretty big fan.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT Good, and I'm relieved to hear that. It's a banging tune on it's own but the visials take it to another level.
Check out the LP album "Drum 'n' Bass for Papa" by Luke Vibert - him and Aphex Twin were mates and shared alot of stuff together.
It's awesome you're reacting to electronica, I got a song for you to react to. I'll give to you on patreon.
Aphex Twin's sound can't be replicated.
Atari Teenage Riot and Mr Oizo are quite interesting too... and you're really right about linking Trent Reznor and Richard D James.
Definitely check out Windowlicker!
Just when granny thought it be safe to go to the shops this happens

youre and awsome guy! :)
If you do more of these that would be amazing because not a lot of people have listened to more than a couple of tracks of his on YT.
Great reaction, 👏👏👊
Check out the Richard D. James album
I heard that this track was supposed to be mocking heavy metal or something.

This guys got a lot of different styles
Timeless song.
Industrial 1000% este tema se ríe de cualquiera de Skinny Puppy
Oohh, plenty more Prodigy to get into then.
Yeah. So this guy didn’t get it. He thought this video was about the music. 🤷🏻♂️
You really really really need to check out dog fashion disco. It’ll be unlike any other stuff you’ve heard
Apex twin just got your soul... 😛
This is not Drum n bass. This is just Richard David James… AKA, God.
Richard D. James so far ahead of the game that they still haven't caught up.

There from Ireland limerick
How can you react to a video you're not looking at?
You didnt even look at the video most of the time, so more a reaction to the song, when the video is also also a big thing? fail
I’ve gone back and seen this video but I usually react to the music since we are a music reaction channel. Videos are always secondary.
