I got a couple flights in last night finally. All in all about what I expected, which is a very good thing. A couple observations… - On my first landing, which was a bit rough at Creech but certainly nowhere near as hard as a carrier landing, Jester makes a comment about needing the undercarriage replaced and then I find out I have no brakes. Now, I’m an old US Navy carrier guy. I’m used to planes that get slammed on a pitching deck all day long. That little tap and I lose my brakes??? C’mon, man! - I didn’t look too hard cuz I was wanting to get in the air and I knew I had yet to spend an hour or more setting up the controls, but all I saw were skins for either USAF jets or allied nation jets. Nothing from the United States Navy. I mean, the thing was designed and built as a FLEET defense aircraft for the US Navy. They have six skins for the USAF Thunderbirds, but not one navy skin. What is up with that? As an ex-US Navy flight deck veteran that actually served on a carrier that still had a squadron of Phantoms on board, I take great offense to this. - I may be doing something wrong procedure wise and no, I haven’t RtFM yet, but I found as I was screaming around the southern Nevada skies last night, that no matter how I set the radar up from the WSO seat, once I went back to the pilot seat, after a second or two the radar would go back to a B scope and 50 mile range. Am I missing something there? Is it supposed to do that and if so, how can I change it? Surely the pilot can do a PPI and isn’t locked into a B scope. I mean, it does show PPI for a second before it changes. - I’m also wondering why there doesn’t seem to be a Jester command to change ranges on the radar. I can tell him to change the elevation and scan size, but not the range? Edit: I looked again this morning and no, there are no US Navy skins at all. C’mon guys, this thing was built for the Navy! Edit: Okay, I get it. The Navy used the B and J versions, not the E. Well, I hope they come out with a US Navy variation someday.

I was having issues with uncaging the sidewinder seeker. I was using the Cage button when winders were selected but it wasn't working. I couldn't find relevant information so I'm having a hard time figuring it out. Any advice or corrections?
I don’t see many people flying mig-21s on Contention! Lol….80’s is tough in an aircraft with a crap radar, no decent fox 1 and no Datalink. Glad to see that the F-4 can get along on the server though. I knew it would dominate on Enigma but nice to see it flown in a more modern environment
The F4 is getting the shit kicked out of it on Enigmas currently by MiG21s. Not having a look down radar is really killing it and the 21 pilots are hugging the deck, popping up and firing R3Rs.
The track system has almost never worked in MP since DCS was created (with FC3 it was a little better), and with the way it works on a fundamental level it *can't* as it relies on perfectly replicating each event, each *input* that takes place sequentially and only logs each input or 'difference' from one state to the next, it's literally like an INS system that degrades over time. It needs to be either fundamentally rewritten or updated to add 'snapshots' of the state of all objects at a given time to give it an updated 'base truth' to work from with it's assumptions based on differences. Even a ludicrous amount of precision in logging would still likely not produce good enough results for longer tracks in modern DCS because of the complexity that is possible, the game needs to take 'snapshots' which is what just about every other replay system does

Great video! I've really enjoyed flying the F4E and wondered if you ran into the same bug as I have? My problem is that when I restart my created mission, Jester seems to not be able to lock the ground. What I mean is he just continuously says things like "I got it locked" and I can tell he doesn’t. Since my reticle doesn’t fill up with orange like it does when he actually has the ground locked. I'm sure it's a bug, but I just wondered if you have seen it and maybe have a fix? Anyway, keep it up, and I love flying the F4E. It's 5 out of 5 good! I highly recommend it!!
@TrickerDCS Yeah, it's a great plane! That's the button I'm using, and it does work. I just have to restart the mission once or twice and it comes back. I basically made a dive toss mission that I restart right after I drop the bombs. So it's like a 30 sec long mission and I'm using full mk82 bomb loadout with 4 aim 7M missiles.
Do you use sound indication to know when you are pulling to hard? Cuz I can't get it when you should stop pulling: before you hear the sound indication or when you start hearing continious sound (AoA on speed)? And how in general do you feel in F4 during BFM? Any tips or things to keep in mind when you are diving into BFM? Videos like this inspires to dive into A2A combat, but for now I'm still waiting and figuring out how to tame this beast:D
Optimal rate aoa comes slightly before the aoa starts beeping, but if you are slow or too fast, you want to get into that aoa warning zone. Considering general advises: optimal rate speed is 400-ish knots, 420 if I remember correctly. Going below 350 is risky cause you are getting into mig21 territory. Try to gain as much energy as you can before the merge, 3rd gen aircrafts don't have the insane energy retention of 4th gen, so you'll need all of it From what I've felt, f4 is competitive against every 3rd gen in a dogfight overall. It has a great turn rate at high speeds and can handle a slow speed 1 circle fight against a mig21, although this one is suboptimal
Hi Tricker. I love the livestreams. I really like the coldwar plane,s en multiplayer. I dont have as much time as i like. I got the f5 and mig 21. But i whant to buy a New module. I,m on the fench on the f4 or the mirage f1. Witch do you recommend ?

Sometimes phantom roles come with the missile power switch turned off (and sometimes it's on), like described above. Turn it on and wait about 1-3 minutes for sparrows to heat up

This is not a Navy jet. The F-4E is not the Navy one, you're confused with the other variants. (B,J,N,S)
You can tell jester to change scan type in the menu. Under scan type options you’ll also see the range options.
Jester lacks radar options, indeed, that makes me sad. Hopefully with a jester framework modders will add missing functions soon

Use the Aerial Refueling Button to Uncage, It's on my tips and tricks video

I’d say it’s losing to just about everything on Enigmas right now. Particularly F1 and Mig21.

Growling Sidewinder somehow made the Track Files work (or at least external shots) in his videos, but he doesn´t tell how.
That’s because he flies by himself or with one other person. Those tracks work fine, it’s the massive multiplayer ones that are broke

Never knew contention had a cold war server? How is it different from Enigma, better missile, shorter flight time to action?
This is an event but they have an 80s version and a 90s version as well. Fantastic server and significantly better performance for me than enigmas

What do you press when the heater is on to lock it up (higher tone)? I just get the slightly higher growl but can't lock them up like you're doing.
