I own this amp by myself and I am very pleased with it. When I tried it at local music store I immediately knew that it is going to be mine. I plugged in a stratocaster and it was the best clean tone I ever heard. It was bright and it wasn't thin. Then I plugged in 7-string Schecter Hellraiser with EMGs. Man, that was heavy! This can definitely do metal. And finally, I plugged in a 5 string bass and it was very good. Not as good as terror bass but better than any Phil Jones Bass. I will buy a bass in near future, because I won't need a separate bass amp. This amp is amazing and it is the most versatile amp ever. And the best thing was that it was in discount just around 1000$. The best buy in my life
+Greg Bradshaw terror bass is 500/1000W and only for bass. Our bassist owns one and it is amazing, Thunderverb is still very good but the eq frequencies are set for guitar not for bass so the eq is hardly usable and that's the reason of being terror bass better
+Declan Kerin Not so, amplifier's class is the operation mode, 200w is the same if it is class A or B. However class A or B just sounds better. The volume depends on speaker sensitivity, so 50w with high sensitivity speaker will be as loud as 500w with low sensitivity one.
Got this amp recently, swapped tubes with new mesa boogie preamp tubes and power tubes from 6550 to KT88s. The technician did some rebiasing of course. They drive this amp crazy...
I have this head got it for 1300aud and run it through a two notes torpedo live with a SG supreme. believe me it does jazz tones, clean, insane metal to tube Marshall tones. and bass is stellar too. forget rockerverbs this is wayyyyy more flexible if u want to track with bass also. reverb is too powerful but great and the attention is a god send.
I tried them all and i can say that, among these three, thunderverb is by far the best. Dual dark is good amp but i find it too fizzy for metal. The peavey has superb distortion but it is too loud for playing at normal levels with good sound and it's clean sucks. Thunderverb has nice clean and crunch on channel A and channel B is a brutal metal tone. The tone on B I personally like more than a rectifier tone because it is very detailed and you can clearly hear all the tones that you play. I was choosing between Peavey 6505, Thunderverb 200, Dark Terror 100 and a Mesa Boogie triple rectifier and I ended with Thunderverb. I definitely recommend it and if you'll buy it, you won't regret it.
Does this have the dedicated hp8 400W cabinet? I bought one such cab but I'll only receive it in a couple of weeks, is it any good? Thought I bought the regular 412 240w version :)
It's worth your needs. If you need the headroom of 200 Watts espacially for clean playing, yeah, then you should buy it but when most of your playing used to be distorted sounds than it isn't that usefull cus' you can't crank the volume up at any venue. Same thing for every other amps with this kinda wattage for example: mesa triple rectifier, blackstar series one 200 etc.
Man I'd like to jam with one of these bad boys . I've never got to hook up to one of these. Only real deal amp I've ever tried was an evh that my cousin has and it ruined me playing on my junk afterwards. Lol
@@roxcava2202 Ive had both, sometimes I do miss the heaviness and attack of the 5150 but I love my Thunderverb so much for its variety and how beautiful it sounds with any gain level. 5150 is good for just attack only.
(edit -- My advice for Orange Amps Inc.) Please make an amp that has TWENTY 12AX7 preamp tubes, followed by TEN 6L6s for channel one and TEN EL34s for channel two. With a boost switch and an ability to combine channel one and two with a blend knob. THEN I might finally have enough gain. Until the series II is released with TWENTY-TWO preamp tubes and FIFTEEN power amp tubes per channel. Oh, and a power soak, spring reverb and a built in world class amp sim, with multiple cabinet selections and a buffered out for recording. And all of this in a micro-head that weighs under 1lb. :) Oh, and a suggested MSRP of under 1k US dollars.

It's absolutely amazing how the gain knob can take you from clean to metal gain on Orange amps. That's something I've not seen on very many amps.

Power amp: 4 x 6550, Preamp: 4 x Ecc83/12ax7 according to the Orange website, plus 1 x Ecc81/12at7 each for the loop and reverb
Thanks very much for this review! You did a great job showcasing what other could not do with this amp!!
WOW! Miracles do happen. This is the only orange amp I've ever heard that I didn't completely hate for metal tones. Great demo!

Dude how does it sound now?
I had forgotten about these... hot damn they are brutal!
I like this sound! Did u run the amp through the ppc 412 with vintage 30 or the ppc 412 hp8 with k100??
My question exactly! Any experience with the hp8?

I’m not normally a fan of Orange but this fucking crushes.
These videos are gold! Can you demo your home recording set-up and give some advice on getting started?
awesome playing!
I find Oranges sound a lot better as far as gain clarity than Boogies. They have more cut and bite.
Very nice amp!
how does this compare with the Dual Dark and Peavey 6505+?

With the right settings, it sounds like it already gives the tube screamer sound. Now to save nearly two grand for it

@@baguru6146 yeah, had one rehearsal with it. Brutal :)
That tone sounds SO fucking prime.
In this amp you can use less of 200 watt whit channell a to b or whit the attenuator control?
Sweet Music😎
Good stuff
Ive realised that all metal guitar rhythm sounds are very different in a band setting with bass supporting it.
All knobs to midnight (engine room!), and turn up to eleven, were going in!
NICE!
would be nice to hear a bit of reverb and some lower gain sounds
Is there a headphone jack?
Hi Josh, do you know how this compares to the Thunderverb 50? Is the 200w worth the extra $$ ? Thanks

Tom ... i have the version of 50w, any questions..? Do you have pedal? What is the channel in the video?... Thanks
Does Orange Thunderverb 50 sound like 200 in this video??

the evh 50 watt is still a solid amp though but the orange is pretty sweet.
