The Non-Canon Expert looks at how Captain Piett planned and arranged Admiral Ozzel's downfall and his death by Darth Vader in Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back.
This is a Canon and Legends story for Captain Piett with information found within "Star Wars: From A Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare." I hope that you enjoy it!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you all had a safe and healthy end to 2020 and have a great start to 2021. As always, thank you very much for your support!
Have a happy new year! Looking forward to a great year of star wars videos!
Hello there
Happy New Year! Thanks for another year of quality Star Wars content.
also, in legands, ozzel was first brought to the attention of Darth Vader by mara jade in the book allegiance.
i forget the exact wording but in short, she suggested to Vader that for the good of the empire ozzel was in need of special attention!
Admiral Piett is my favorite (and so many others) underrated character. Great expose, genuinely... thank you!
I prefer that Piett has nothing to do with Ozzel's death. I always liked the thought about Piett that he just wanted to avoid Vader's wrath by being competent as possible in his position and by that he become more trustworthy induvidual to Vader's eyes. Also i like to think that when Ozzel finally died Piett was uncomfortable about his promotion but still saying "thank you my lord" yet he remained a competent admiral till the Return of the Jedi.
I have to agree. You can see in the movie that Piett was uncomfortable.
He may not have realized when he was exposing Ozzel that failure resulted in immediate execution.
Lost Stars sort of gives this vibe. I think Piett didn't realize that Vader was going to straight-up kill Ozzel.
Apparently u miss the beauty of Star Wars’s Stories , this video about Piett and Ozzel and videos about other stories make Star Wars all the more inspiring and fascinating
Indeed. I have a set of Little Chronicle books for the first five Star Wars movies, with illustrations of many of the scenes, and for the illustration of Ozzel's execution in the "Empire Strikes Back" book, Piett clearly has an uncomfortable look in his eyes that borders on fear, as if he's thinking, "Oh, crud, am I next?"
Piette had to climb the Empire's military latter, in a manner of speaking, whereas Ozzel got positions handed to him due to family connections.
CommanderBrian. The time has come, execute like 66.
Obviously, Firmus Piett had a lot of hatred to the burgueoisy of the navy.
Kendal Ozzel: the Dr. Zoidberg of Star Wars
Dam now I want a sentient crab/lobster species in star wars now...
Hey, Zoidberg’s at least a kind and sweet individual who deserved the happiness he eventually found. Ozzel was just a spoiled jackhole who also got what he deserved.
You underestimate doctor john f...... zoidberg
I was pretty surprised back in the day when Piett showed up in Tarkin's entourage in Lost Stars, but I am glad they used the opportunity presented by FACPOV to tie that together with his rise through the ranks. And really, Ozzel hasn't shown anything so far that makes it look like it was undeserved. The Vader comic showed that he was nothing compared to Veers, and FACPOV supported that even further; Piett was always more competent as well
Before knowing this:
Promoted Piett: Thanks You Lord Vader 😐
After knowing this:
Promoted Piett: Thanks You Lord Vader 😐...😈
From what I have been seeing & Hearing throughout My searches through the Star Wars Fiction it seems that no Matter what the change in Backstory Darth Vader will ALWAYS have the Loyalty & Support of Piett & Veers.
Kinda Makes You wonder.....What Would Happen if Hidden Truths about Vader were brought to Light before them. Would There Loyalty hold Ferm or would it falter.
If not for meeeeeeeeeeee
For episode 5 lore. ;)
This is super interesting, thanks!
I vote The Bad Batch, Kenobi and Andor seasons 2-3 and Rogue Squadron movie
Haven't we seen this video before ?!
Did Darth Vader ever have any days off to Relax?
🤔
Cool happy new year
What the music you use in your videos?

Hey Star Wars Reading club hey Happy New Years 2021, "if it is not for me when are you going to go do a live video to chat with you Star Wars Reading Club", hey Hope your Family and friends are safe out there friends =family, May The Force Be WITH YOU, This Is The Way.
Id rather watch stories about legends (EU) stuff.
Suggestion: Your narration's tone fluctuation is that of a constant question. Very similar to "burger king foot lettuce" voice. I would suggest finishing your sentences as if you are sure of the words as if they are facts, rather that each sentence trailing off as if it is a question.
When Vader found out Peitt orchestrated Ozzel's death.
Vader: Why did you do it?
Peitt: I hated him. Anything else
Vader: Proceed admiral
He did a wonderful job removing Ozzel from the board
Vader: That's my fricking boi
@@Dukesparrow1999 he was trained by tarkin
This is why the Empire fractured after the Battle of Endor. No unity among the higherups, only obstacles to remove
Division among ranks often lead to power vacuums, creation of warlords, and potential mutually assured destruction.
To be honest, The Empire as a whole gained on Ozzel's death. Had it only happened sooner, they might have won Hoth
@@ReicantheJester Makes you wonder how many others hated Ozzel and how he rose to that position. I imagine Thrawn and Pellaeon being in disgust about that, just to name a few.
@@lucaswatanabe9429 i think ozzel gained His Rank only and only His Family name
I feel like Piett and Thrawn would have worked good together. Piett was competent and Thrawn would enjoy that with someone such as him.
Piett: Considering his stupidity probably killed over hundreds of men on Hoth, I'm perfectly justified, right guys?
You're right, he probably wouldn't have thought of intensifying forward firepower either
*looks away in grudging ignorance*
The way Imperials turn on each other is the way of the Sith.
Well the Galactic Empire was part of the Sith order’s “Grand Plan”
Which was to infiltrate the republic and corrupt it from inside
Defame , discredit and diminish the Jedi Order
And transform the republic into a empire in their favor and conquer the galaxy once again
So basically , there shady influence dug it’s way into the minds of their employees and personnel
So the imperials are power hungry and backstabbing too now
Literally what the Empire stood on, from the ideals of the Sith
I mean Piett does have a point, those who are just given power are not really deserving of it. Power must be earned, not given.
That is a very fair and accurate point
Well done Palpatine you created the perfect system for your empire where everyone backstabs eachother. How could it go wrong?
I never really considered Piett's ambition a secret, we got a hint of it in Empire, just after Vader overruled Ozzel and had them set course for Hoth. Ozzel glared at Piett, who only smirked as he stormed off. Piett did want Ozzel gone, but I think even he was a bit surprised by Vader simply strangling him to death.
If your reading this
Happy new year
If my what is reading this?
Happy new year.

Not everything has to have a backstory, I prefer Ozzel being killed for his own incompetence
Well, he *was* - but his subordinate just made sure his incompetence was obvious to "upper management."
Not just admiral he went from captain to fleet ( 4 star admiral) in a single move. Impressive imo . It's a very big career move
The (not so much now) New Guide to Characters claims that junior officers on the Executor regularly had secret betting pools on how long their C.O. would last before getting killed by Vader. Wonder who made made money when Ozzel keeled over, and/or if anybody had time to collect when Piett got kamikazed at Endor.
Garrick Versio: “Piett, you fool”
0:45 the drawing is from the Marvel adaptation of said movie drawn by Al Williamson and Carlos Garzon.
The glaring error here is that it's Piett being choked not Ozzel , the one with the mustache!
I can't remember how or why but for years I was under the impression that Ozzle was rebel spy or sympathizer. The way he tried to disregard Hoth and how he came out of light speed early which allowed several rebel fleet ships to escape.
Probably because you don't immediately consider the possibility that someone who attained his position could still be an idiot. You would generally assume that the Admiral of an Imperial fleet got there on merit, therefore any decisions that helped the enemy *must* be cunning insubordination on his part.
It's not until you know that there's a culture of favoritism and backstabbing in Imperial ranks that you realize that all the 'help' he was giving to the rebels was simply him being a poor strategist, who shouldn't have been in command of a garbage scow, much less a Star Destroyer.
For what it's worth, during her time as a "Hand of the Emperor" Mara Jade (Luke's wife in Legends) speculated Ozzel's incompetence was due to him being either a Rebel spy, easily manipulated, or amazingly stupid.
I think I like canon. Piett didnt like Ozzel and thought he didnt deserve his position. And other things. Makes sense. He didnt
Piett wasn't clumsy and stupid like Ozzel.
1:22
He looks like sergeant schultz XD
Great way to start up 2021!
Imperial Officers do joke for position
General Veers rat on him
If not for meee. For hoping 2021 will be a better year.
We need more Canon vs. Legends
Finally a new vid!!!!!😂
Piett, you ambiguous fool...
Episode 5 lore.
Hello Glen. Happy New Year!
If not for meee...

The senate would be proud of the now admiral he used both skill and patience to achieve his goals.
So I was looking at the ISD's and they all look like slices of pizza right? You think the ISD's can combine into a pizza shaped super ship and decimate planets and entire fleets?
Yes in command failure to make a decision is worse then making the wrong decision
Piett could have been next to die. I would not want to be promoted.
He was a trash commander during clone wars and he had it coming
Me and dark Vader both have the same first name. Darth.
Who are the 2 people who disliked this? How dare you
Great Video. Thank you
:)
Legends will always be my canon. Disney has just been churning out trash.
So how do you weigh in on The Mandalorian?
Except for Mandalorian, right?
ViciousSephiroth I agree. It is why more people need to support Legends and the Star Wars Legends movement. So we can get new Legends content.
Lol I read the thumbnail and IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT....Yup, he SURE DID😂
Oh god, Piette was the Frank Grimes of the Star Wars Universe
Except he wasn't driven insane by Ozzel, achieved his goal against Ozzel, and Ozzel- the Homer in this context- was killed.
You can hear some of the teaching of the sith in tarkins own philosophy, I like it
Pretty awesome channel. You reall go into details to explain the most minute detail. Also love your intro logo! Did you design it yourself?)) Look forward to checking out your channel more.
Happy New Year's Day, Star Wars Reading Club!
Really looking forward to your content here in 2021!
Its kinda ruining star wars more and more putting in backstories for everything and filling in gaps that don't need to be filled in. Vader killing for incompetence was perfectly fine
