@@kayo5291 for me almost never because it kind of sticks to the box. I’ve only ever had tears a couple times if I let the litter level get to low where he was scratching the bottom. But even that was more on the edge than in the middle. I’ve been doing it for 2 years. I do have the kind of litter box that you dump one pan through a filter to a new pan so that makes it easier to change the paper regularly.

I use pine pellets that are actually made for horse bedding. Doesn’t take much. Total odor control. Very inexpensive. Makes no mess. Only a couple or so whole pellets make it out of the pan each day. Poop is easily removed in one clump. Urine is totally absorbed into the pine pellets and a light fresh pine scent is released. Where the urine is, the pellets fall apart and are easily scoop-able. I just move the whole pellets around to cover top layer. Then I add a large scoop of new pellets to top. I change the litter once a week. I buy a 50 pound bag for around $7. Fill pan 4 to 5 inches deep. It’s definitely worth it for you to try. I luv it and have absolutely no problems with my cats using it. You can get it at Home Depot, Tractor supply, or Farm Co-op type stores.
    Hugs from Gloria 💓💕

As a lifelong cat owner I agree w/ the other commenter @ pine pellets made for horses at my local Feed store. Inflation & limited budget w/ 3 cats I buy a 40lb bag for $7. No more dust on furniture, most importantly compromising my lungs, air quality, cat ingesting clay when cleaning themselves, and heavy trash bags, etc.
With the high cost of groceries and gas I can’t afford the $25-$30 cost for 20lbs of clay litter so pine pellets are a blessing and disintegrates into basically sawdust super easy to sift rather than the clumps that cling to every nook and cranny. Plus it’s super easy to wash off the box with an outdoor hose. I save hundreds of $ annually. The $ I spent buying a litter box made to sift pine pellets has saved me $$$ in the long run buying $7 40lb bags of horse pine pellets.

I learned long ago that it doesn't matter if I like it! If the grumpy old lady doesn't like it, she will demonstrate her displeasure. On the upside, if the box is clean and it's just a problem with the litter itself, she will do her business in front of the box (rather than on the bed/laundry/couch as she does when she's upset about other things) so a washable mat catches something worthwhile for us. And luckily-ish, she prefers clay instead of demanding more expensive options🤑

World’s best litter is corn based, clumps well, does well to minimize odor. I scoop my boxes at least twice a day. I do flush solid waste and bag the clumps. I use plastic boxes and have extras so I can set up a clean box and let the dirty one dry in the sun without having a situation where there is no box to use. My go to for cleaning is Rescue but also use Nature’s miracle for tougher odor issues. Since I foster kittens I need to have several boxes at times and this is a balance of cost and efficiency that works well for me.

Did your cats adjust to the new litter well? My cats are so neurotic and such creatures of habit, I’m always worried when I change things, that they won’t adjust. When I got them a water fountain, it took them a week to start drinking from it. I realized they just weren’t drinking at all and kept having to put out water in a bowl at the end of each day until they started using the fountain. I’ve always re-bought the same litter box over the years because I’m afraid to change it and have them not use it. I recently got them a generic litter robot because I’m sick of scooping a box, they actually went right in it and used it, but now that they’ve seen it self clean itself, theyre afraid of it despite it being sooo quiet and now won’t go in. I brought their old litter box back in and they’ve been sleeping in front of it like theyve had separation anxiety lol soo ridiculous

I switched to the disposable boxes about 6 or 7 years ago on a Clean My Space recommendation video. Previous to that I thought that the disposable boxes were a waste of money. However, I realized that I wanted to chuck my plastic boxes many times over the years because of how scratched up they would get from litter scraping the surface. It was a perfect capillary urine trap. I also didn't have a good sink to wash the box in and... so I rarely washed the boxes. Disposable boxes suddenly made sense. I like the idea of the SS box - and now I have a wash tub that I could clean it out in. I'll have to put that in my wish list. I currently use The World's Best Cat Litter in the red bag. I've been looking all over the IT trying to find this information and of all that I found, this was the most helpful! And I sincerely thank you for it 👍!!! Your tips really made me feel like I can finally start making a difference in my house!
I'm currently using a grass seed litter that I got from Petsmart, and while it works well in terms of clumping and not sticking to the box, it's not great with odor control and scatters everywhere. But it's what I can afford for now, and my cats seem to love it, so all good!
I've been thinking about trying tofu pellet litter, but I need more information about it. I have multiple cats and litter boxes, so the amount of litter in each bag is important to me. Tofu litter has caught my attention though, and I'm really hoping to try it out someday - who knows, it might become my favorite! Thanks again for the helpful video😊😊😺😺!!

I use Pretty Litter. My cat is about 14-15 years old. Her litter box is plastic. When I change out the litter monthly I do it when she's sleeping. I put about 3" of hot water in the box and add a small amount of bleach. Put the scoop and my little plastic dustpan and brush in there and let them soak for a few minutes. Rinse them thoroughly and then use Mrs. Meyers spray to clean them. Again, rinse thoroughly and I use paper towels to dry the litter box. Before I add the new bag of litter I sprinkle the bottom with Arm & Hammer baking soda (just enough to be sure it's dry).

After my cat suffered a really bad ear infection where he ended up with auralhematoma and had to have a few surgeries (we still don't know to this day how it happened because he is a strict indoor cat), the only thing I can think that would help is completely changing out and deep cleaning his box more regularly. The problem is, everytime I do it since it doesn't "smell like him anymore", he'll go pee somewhere that's not his litter box and it's usually the guest bed where he does it, every time, it happens every time, it's at a point where we have to close off the guest room to him and have to retrain him to use his litter box, like when he's crying in front of the guest room door in the middle of the night we have to pick him up and physically put him in his box and low and behold he goes right away after that, lol. And no, there's no medical reason why he's doing it, no UTI or crystals, nothing like that, and he's only 7 1/2, so we can legitimately say it's old age reasons yet, it's only when we deep clean and fully replace his litter, lol, but we have to do it because the litter we use is plant based (I was getting respiratory problems from both clay and silica dust from other options) and plant based litter does decompose faster, hence why I'm more than sure his ear infection was caused by bacteria from his litter and then him scratching his ear.

We use World's Best, have done for 3+ years. Looooove the lavender one. We tried a Rufus and Coco brand tofu but it was sooooo unbelievably dusty. I have a litter doormat rather than the whole thing, and a dedicated broom for quick tidies.
We also tried the Catmate siftnig setup with pine pellets, but being a neurodivergent household, I aaaaalways forgot to clean the catchment tray due to out-of-sight, out-of-mind, whereas clumps give a visual cue!

And you have reminded me I need to buy new boxes. I use the round Booda boxes with lids, and my cats ignore any other style. (Yes I have tried) The company at least claims it is primarily recycled plastic too. Didn't ever consider getting a liner though, thank you! My little stinker is quite skilled at leaving stains and it would be nice not to have to deal with that. Or bringing the entire pan down to the garage to dump monthly.

Timely video! I was trying to switch my cat to a paper-based litter instead of the clay litter. The clay litter was heavy, dusty, and difficult to clean; it's also not very environmentally friendly, so I am looking for something more lightweight and compostable. However, switching to the paper is not going very well because my cat prefers being able to dig a hole for his waste, so the paper product doesn't satisfy that need for him. It was really good at absorbing urine and much better than the clay for the odour control, so we're trying to find a happy medium. I'll be switching to stainless steel boxes soon though, since the plastic ones we have need to be replaced and are actually too small for our cat! He's a big boy.

I use potty pads on the outside of my litter box, my cat has the habit peeing over the top. Her fav litter box is the robot litter box which we don't worry because of the pee guard, and the one with a low opening but high sides which has the potty pads. We also have a all high side need to jump inside version which she only uses if she has to.

I use World's Best Cat Litter Lavender Scent and have for over 15 years. It's corn based based so, not harmful to my feline baby (she's 17). It clumps well. Before I knew any better and had my cat declawed, my vet recommended "Yesterday's News", which is rolled up newspapers. That is the most horrible litter, in my opinion. I think the idea of a stainless steel litter box is a good one. However, it's sides look very high with no drop in the front to facilitate easier entry. My baby is a bit arthritic so, I'm not sure that she could handle this.

I use the Breeze pellet system, but instead of using the bottom pullout tray with pee pads, I have the entire box without the drawer set inside my guest room bathtub so the urine falls through to the ceramic tub below. I rinse the pellets in the box and the tub itself out at least twice a day when I scoop, and scrub it at least every other day with Dawn Powerwash. The pellets that get outside the box gets washed to the drain and I can collect them and put them back in the box. The poops I scoop out can be dumped in the toilet and flushed.
Once a month, I dump the pellets into a small trash can and fill it with very hot water and 2 cups of salt. I let it sit for a couple days, stirring periodically, then dump the water using a dedicated strainer and refill again with hot water and salt two more times. Then I pour the water out and spread the pellets on a storage tub lid and let them bleach out and sanitize in the sun for a few days. The same day I washed the pellets, I clean out the box, the lower tray and the surround with very hot water and lysol. Then I rinse it out, dry it off, and leave it outside to bleach out and sanitize in the sun. I have two Breeze boxes and will use the second clean box and fresh pellets while the first one is being dried in the sun. I can generally get about 3 uses from each batch of pellets.
The whole system is much more cost effective, environmentally sound and better smelling than a regular box and doesn't track like clumping litter. That's why I'm not getting a litter robot--the litter still tracks and I am not having it. The mat I use is large and the pellts fit into the little pockets perfectly.

chronic pain = kitty poo poo club ftw
just need one box for two cats, these days, but started with two plastic, but they're a mess to clean and sanitize constantly. The stainless steel would be great if there was space to safely wash it and hose it down easily.
Never had a house smell like cats.
Also: rubber gloves, a mask, and a dog waste bag to manage the actual litter. 🤷
considered the ideas posted in the vid, and since bamboo is a crop, and it's stressful to consider the black box issues with production of domestic and intl crops.
Plus there's a wild amount of undesirable elements in various animal scat that standard home composters don't understand the mechanics of mitigating, also commercial composters discourage submission of housepet products.
Off to the groomer for a water bath (when the talons need clipping) and a nail trim. Feed only twice a day/Don't leave food out.
