Trivia about Peccatulum Acediae's log: it is a reference from a critique about 'The parasite' made by Korean critic. he said was: "A acute and sorrowful hierarchical fable composed in quite the luculent incontrovertibility by ascent and descent" (translated korean into english) at that time nobody were understand it's meaning at first sight so it became meme
I dont think "Matthew is actually a Heathcliff from a parallel reality" was something literally anyone was expecting, but lo and behold, we got Heathcliff vs The Cooler Heathcliff, and there is a chance that we might get an ID of Heathcliff cosplaying as Heathcliff cosplaying as Matthew, which is fun. Also yeah no as silly and unexplained as the Heathcliff from another world thing was, that final cutscene was just peak.
And just because it hasn't explained now, doesn't mean it won't explain in the future. Like now they explained why the sinners didn't jump on Hindley when he was distorting (Granted, it takes canto 6 to get that explanation when they didn't even question it in previous canto)

I REALLY HATE that they made "Distorting" as "Canon event". Interrupting it was such an amazing concept, but naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. "...it is fate" bs.
It's not literally fate so much as it is 'Carmen is practically a god of the mind and soul'. Attempting to combat an entity with that level of power is like saying Angelica could've beaten the Pianist if she just put her fingers in her ears. You're helpless. Just a pawn in a game of chess. Faust explains as such. Like a Mental Breakdown in the real world, you can't just stop it by beating up the victim. The only person who can fight Carmen and prevent the distortion, is the person themself. And before you say anything, I do need to add, every single Canto has dealt with the concept of fate destiny, and identity. Hell, Damien and the Mark of Cain is literally all about fate. Gregor's Mom and her Squad are about controlling destiny through attempting to create a single future by erasing all other potential outcomes. DISTORTION DETECTIVE'S MC MOSES CAN LITERALLY SEE DISTORTIONS AND PREDICT WHEN THEY'RE GOING TO MANIFEST. Going back to LoR, The entire storyline is the byproduct of the Purple Tear and Carmen manipulating their side of the chess board to get the outcome they desire, Angela trying to break free from the 'script' Ayin trapped her with for millennia, and Roland trying to break the cycle of the City but failing because Angela kept justifying her actions instead of showing even the tiniest hint of regret. Lobotomy Corp is Ayin inventing time travel to repeat his 'perfect scenario' until he gets it correct and manifests the complete tree of light. Yes, there are other themes, and those themes are more important, but the point is, this concept has existed in the series from Day 1, and has been a prominent undertone throughout. This is because Project Moon is a Korean Company, who love to point out the issues with Korean Society through this Dystopian world of theirs.
It's not a "canon event" or "fate bs"; what was shown in that scene is very much in-line with how the concepts of "E.G.O" and "Distortion" were explained in all three (two, since Distortion was not a thing in Lobotomy Corporation) games. Both E.G.O and Distortion are manifestations of your true, inner SELF, brought forth by the process of SELF-reflection and SELF-acceptance. Why would anyone but yourSELF be able to stop it? How does it make any sense? In fact, going even deeper into the theming and symbolism, the entire point of E.G.O is being able to become self-sufficient: to gain power that allows you to solve problems and stand against your foes on your own, relying on no one but yourself (that is the point of ego/egoism IRL, as well). Allowing other people to interfere with this process - since it's the exact same for E.G.O and Distortion both - would go against that idea, because making it so that others can now potentially interfere and even "control" your inner world, stopping the aforementioned process of self-reflection and self-acceptance, completely ruins everything. What is the point of facing your inner fears/desires and learning to accept them despite everything when you have a safety net of all your friends and family just being around on standby, ready to swoop in and save you the instant it becomes "too much"?
