Krishna gave the Gita to Arjuna because he asked great questions. This interviewer had the maturity to understand and ask great questions to Ramesh. Thank you for this wonderful video.
I hope Ramesh sat in that room too when you did … 😅 (Just kidding.) I think it must have been a great experience for you. I wish I knew Ramesh Balsekar already when he was still alive. I love his books too, they are very helpful.
For me one of the most clear and thorough conversation about nonduality and it's roots . It explains the real basis of religion. And very wonderfully lead by Rifka Hirsch. A Classic so to say!
Treasure talk. The brightest, the highest, the greatest a man can achieve is the realisation that "there is nothing to achieve" and ultimately "there is no 'man' whatsoever".
at 44:00 Rifka speaks of enlightenment-joy. The episode of enlightenment is a joyless state--there is no emotional component. Relative 'joy" is experienced afterward and onward but that comes from the understanding / clarity that the enlightenment episode brings.
Ramesh at one point , I think he says "consciousness has to be aware of something, it can't just be conscious". My question is, can't there be just a primordial consciousness where there is consciousness of Itself?
Consciousness is all that is - Advaita Vedanta Advaita Vedanta is one of mankind’s oldest philosophy that cannot be tied to a single religion or within geographical borders. It belongs to the entire mankind. Ramana Maharshi and Adi Sankara are modern religious scientists have explored Advaita Vedanta in their life and shared their learnings from their practise. Psychological Base : It is a modern psychological tool to deal with stress and sorrow and helps a man/woman be compassionate to a fellow living being. Associating with I, the ego is the source of all sorrow. You are not alone, you belong to the brotherhood called consciousness. When you have stress, sorrow don't carry it alone, understand that you belong to the brotherhood called consciousness that is eternally happy. Do not be powerless or feel your capability is limited. You belong to the powerful, the most intelligent brotherhood called consciousness. Meditation - Self Inquiry Who am I? Dhyana Yoga [BODY] Imagine yourself lying on the burning pyre, after death. What happens to you after death? Close your eyes and ask the question, ‘Who am I’ ? You are not the transient body that rots after death. [MIND] Are you the mind that generates the thoughts? When you close your eyes and meditate on a single entity, random thoughts or desires fill your mind. Chasing the thoughts or desires is sorrow. Freedom and happiness is in the thoughtless mind. When a thought or desire arises , kill the thought immediately with the question, To whom do the thoughts come for? The thoughts come to serve I, the ego, your name - your imagination of what you are. When there is no I, the name, the ego - the thoughts have no one to serve and they die. Stay in meditation with a thoughtless mind. Keep reminding yourself there is no I, the name, the ego. There is no body or mind. All that there is consciousness. When there is no I, the name, the ego, there is no you, this or that - the world disappears When is no subject, where is the object to desire for? All that there is consciousness. [HEART] The awareness that swells in your heart in the thoughtless mind is consciousness. Consciousness is all that is. Stay in the consciousness and be blissful and happy. Stay in the consciousness and be blissful and happy. How to stay in Consciousness? - Waking state - Karma Yoga Say Aham Brahmasmi - I am consciousness in both deep sleep, dream and in the waking state. Intellect is Consciousness, the supreme knowledge required to perform an action in the waking state. Intellect and Consciousness are one and same and not separate. Getting lost in the passion of work, without remembering I, the ego is the doer of the work is practising consciousness in the waking state. Also called Karma Yoga. Researchers, Scientists, Programmers, Engineers, Doctors and other professionals who get lost in the passion of work without realizing that they are the doer are practising consciousness in the waking state. Three Ethical values are prescribed to ward off associating I, the ego as the doer and to stay in Consciousness in the waking state. They are as mentioned in Sanskrit as the 3 Ds Damyata (Self Control), Datta (Charity) and Dayadhvam (Compassion). A person who knows he/she is Aham Brahmasmi (I am consciousness) in the waking state. identifies a fellow living being (human or non human) as one the same and as no different than himself as consciousness. is empathetic and compassionate towards another living being (human or non human) gets lost in his passion for work, does not credit I, the ego as the doer of the work nor personally own the fruits of the labor. He credits his work and the fruits of the labor to his intellect or consciousness, which are one and the same. takes the happiness, sorrows and pain with equanimity with the fact that his true state consciousness is always blissful and happy.
The REAL LIBERATION Comes From The REALIZATION That He CANNOT Be A Separate ENTITY...He Is Just A Part Of The UNBROKEN WHOLENESS [TOTALITY], Which Is A UNIVERSE... .......Thankyou Beloved Ramesh Ji.......
What he speaks about around 35:00 is absolutely essential to understand--enlightenment is NOT a sustained state, it is a short-lived episode of unity-consciousness.
the impersonal consciousness, identified with the mind-body organism, leads to the imagined schism from which one needs to find "liberation". That impersonal consciousness itself *is* freedom. with realization, a block of ice becomes flowing water. the basic substance is the same, however its properties have changed
On the other hand why bother ? I don't understand all this concept of suffering, I am not a seeker (but I love philosophy) am not enlightened and yet I don't suffer, I see things impersonally and have done even as a child, it is as it is.
The final reality is so simple. But very few people can see it, because almost nobody wants to give up his little, jealous and anxious ego… I don‘t exclude myself. Still too often I forget who I really am. (Referring to Ramana Maharshi‘s question: Who am I?)
One need not follow a structured system in order to realise self-enlightenment. To say to another, you can only be in this state by following these instructions goes against the nature of truth. Enlightenment, by definition is subjective. It must be a personal journey of discovery. Yes, there are scriptures and gurus which can guide one in the general direction, but this is a matter of self-realisation. No one can show you the path, you must create your own.
I was bush walking earlier in the year with John Wheeler while he was down visiting 'Sailor' Bob Adamson, he mentioned when he visited Ramesh that he had completely turned his back on advaita in his final years of life. I found this quite shocking considering his teachings, perhaps being on the death bed really determines how clear one is...anyhow
Gosh this is so hard to understand! I am trying so hard. I have unidentified myself from my body mind. Do I need to keep my job and do I need to pay my credit card bills or pay for my meals at restaurant ?
I think he said that in duality (ordinary life) the totality of consciousness is operating through an object which is identified with itself as the doer. In this state of mistaken identification it becomes attracted to one pole or another of all sorts of dualities. Such opposite poles include passionate love and passionate hate - hence hate crime.
I want to know if gluons, which bind quarks together inside of atomic nuclei, can come to a state of rest or not. Perhaps this is not possible (possibly because gluons can interact with other gluons.) The reason I ask is because gluons have a non-zero mass. Since the kinetic energy of the gluons inside of the proton & neutron contribute to the vast majority of mass for the proton & neutron, & single quarks are never found in isolation, AND quarks are bound together by gluons, they can't rest.
he was about 88 at the time of that allegation, so if it's true, it's pretty impressive! and even if it is true, it wouldn't contradict his teaching anyway

Thank you for the most comprehensive explanation of totality. His discourse could not be anymore clear. I am ecstatically grateful : )
I sat in that room for three weeks.
How blessed .

Treasure talk. The brightest, the highest, the greatest a man can achieve is the realisation that "there is nothing to achieve" and ultimately "there is no 'man' whatsoever".

Practical Advaita. Very much needed, if only to cut through all the woowoo out there, surrounding eastern teachings.
Excellent talk for the seekers.
who is seeking what?
+gaston cardoso us (humans/matter) seeking our true self (consciousness)

just amazing!
Ramesh at one point , I think he says "consciousness has to be aware of something, it can't just be conscious". My question is, can't there be just a primordial consciousness where there is consciousness of Itself?
Well, who knows. I think Ramesh regards consciousness as of a similar nature as light: light can‘t be seen until it hits an object.
This is a dream. Remember it always
Thanks

Hi, thank you for posting this interview. Does anyone know the name of the woman asking the questions please? Thanks.
Rifka Hirsch. Found it in comments.
Actually, her name appeared above the Spanish subtitles at at least one stage during the video..
