    Learning a lot here! I have watched every Tiny House video and will probably watch them again! Thanks for filming your progress!

    Great videos!!!!! thanks for the knowledge and time you put into making them. Now I'm going to build a tiny home.

    Dan, really nice job on your videos! For your catchment inlet you might want to consider some type of course filter to keep your drums relatively free of junk that will undoubtedly be on your roof....maybe keep that stray copperhead out about which you seem rightfully concerned.
    I would make it something you can get back into for cleaning.

    I hate it when I leave the lid loose on my primer, and then spill it all over everything. Thanks for sharing!

      I learned my lesson. I'll be using clear primer once this series is done.

    I will also be using rain catchment for my water needs.I'll be getting a decent sized round tank and will bury that to keep from freezing.I do need to research rain water for drinking,you know maybe with the right filters its ok?
    Lovin your videos Man.

      Reverse osmosis filtration system. But some people will still argue that it's still not safe to drink.

    Just a idea for anyone building something like this.
    Add strip of plastic inside the upper pipe that leads to bottom of the barrel, giving the incoming water guide to follow, so when its filling up you wont hear water dropping down on the water the surface, that would cause noise.
    Specially important thing to do in this stage, cause it would be really shitty thing to do later.

    Looking forward to your next project/video on the tiny house, what are you going to do next after the rain catchment system?

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      I'll be adding a window to a preexisting wall 1 part, then after that I'll be doing the water pump system. 2 parts.

    What's the extra 2000 pounds going to do to towability? That's either a lot of hitch weight or a lot weight on the rear, depending on where you've placed it.

    Do you plan to use water for drinking? Or is it for showers etc?

    • @TinyHouseCustoms

      I won't be drinking it. But I will use it for everything else.

    keep up the god work. Nice dog you have. great ideas you have. waiting for next video.
    love idea of a small house like that. But here in Norway you can't registrate some thing like that for the road use. to heavy and need crash tested.. But Build like a garden house guesthouse it will work. but still need a lot of paperwork to the town house/government. sorry my bad English writing..

      Your English was just fine. I never looked into other countries building codes. That sucks that they're so strict.

    been watching your videos from the very informative thank you for putting them out. really like the peanut value, but notice the whole bunch of primer on the tub and the floor and the tube right at the end of the video. what happened there?

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      I knocked the primer off a board I had on top of the tanks. Didn't get on film.. I've been using clear primer since then. Thanks for watching.

    Hi! I was wondering why you chose to use round barrels rather than rectangular holding tanks like RVs use, which seem to be a little more modular friendly. Also, do you think you could put this system inside the floor area? Thanks in advance!

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  8 лет назад +1

      +ksukallie basically the barrels were cheaper. rectangular tanks would have cost hundreds.

    • @ksukallie
      @ksukallie 8 лет назад

      I havent gotten too far into your MEP vids, but you mentioned these weren't going to be for drinking water. Do you have another water supply/holding for drinking water? Or did you just mean that as in "I am not going to drink the water from here without being filtered yet" Sorry for so many questions, but I design RVs and I am currently designing a hybrid on grid/off grid tiny :)

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  8 лет назад

      Some one told me that stagnant water in PVC pipe can become toxic. I guess the PVC leaches cancer causing chemicals. I havnt been able to prove this but it scares me to drink it, filtered or not. I just carry in water. Usually fill up a jug a work and use that for drinking. But even a plastic bottle can have chemicals in it. So who knows. Pick your poison I guess.

    If they were not in so tight you would have more room for insulation in the wall. Is the wall just going to be left open stud?

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      It'll make more sense in a few more episodes. But where the tanks are it did end up remaining open studs.

    I found your video's tonight and have watched from the beginning. I find your video's to be informative and funny. In many cases, both are lacking in other people's videos. One thing I think I'd have done differently is I think I'd have turned the drums so that all the bungs were facing the same direction. I believe it would have been much easier to build, but also much easier to work on in the future if need be.. Another thing may have been a trap door from outside, (insulated), so that you could get to valving and see what is going on in the water storage..
    I am not normally one for giving someone grief about how they build or do things, but,,, I have never seen ANYONE use both plumbers tape AND PUTTY!!! I hope you will do an air leak test before you close everything up.... And don't depend on your ears for that. Use a gauge and let it sit for a few days to make sure.. If you do have a leak, use a squirt bottle with water and dishwashing liquid at the joints to find the leak.. Hope this helps.

    why are you saving water and also how do you drain the tanks for on road moving

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      I use the water to shower, shave, brush my teeth and to do laundry. In part 3 I go over the drain.

    the r value? you planning on reselling it after?

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 8 лет назад

      +Erin Meadows R-value means the insulation value, other words how much insulation structure has, to keep it warm or cold.
      Coming from freezing Nordic country, that insulation is really thin, but guess its ok for the area his living in.

    I have a lot of questions, but first off what's the largest trailer length allowed, I see 24ft flat decks and then 32ft enclosed trailers here in Alaska.. having trouble figuring out what's allowed and what's not, also I'm building a scale model like yours, mine isn't as pretty haha

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      You can go all the way up to 40 ft legally. But that's not to tiny anymore.

    • @infantrymanejb358
      @infantrymanejb358 9 лет назад

      40ft seems excessive, me and the wife shave been talking about this, we have a Four year old son and a dog, 30 I think is as big as I would go but I don't want too much, haven't seen any of these in Alaska. Might be my perfect solution, I'm 26 this December, I bought a house when I was 22, wish I'd seen these sooner than later, I work in the oilfield and make good money, gone two weeks at a time get two weeks off though, what has this project cost you so far?

      Also ty for the response your awesome man

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      +Erik Bohlen ahh damn. i had a huge reply but i clicked out and lost it... Personally anything over 24 is not a tiny house, its a park model. you'd be better off buying a park model, its cheaper. I'm not gonna write the whole thing again.. I've spent 10k to make a livable structure.
      a 30 ft trailer will run you around 7k. anything cheaper, you get what you pay for.

    that's going underneath your living room right? are you just not going to bother putting walls in under the floor? because there's literally no space. I love peanut btw

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      Yep. It ended up being pretty tight under there. But the floor ended up being solid when I finished it.

    Dude, threaded unions.

    • @TinyHouseCustoms
      @TinyHouseCustoms  9 лет назад

      Why. Everything permanent. It would have been just as much of a pain to hook one of those up as it was the way I did it. Never used one so maybe I'm just ignorant.

      @hutchdw77 9 лет назад

      Sorry, not trying to be condescending.
      Thank you for sharing your experience, for free.
      Because of my experience I have been exposed to something that you may have been unaware of, and I think any future plumbing projects with complex installations could be easier using threaded unions. They come in nearly every material used in plumbing.
      I really enjoy your videos, thanks again.
