I bought a CVA Bobcat from Chinamart for $50. plus tax. It shot round balls like a house a fire. Our youngest son killed his first buck with it.

I bought mine from bass pro back in the early 90's, Thought I may have been wasting my $60 I paid. Gun shot unbelievably well that was when my eyes still worked good. I wish I could buy a half dozen of those again for $60 to give to friends. Never had an issue with the delrin rod provided and don't remember the cleaning jab but mine is brass. I put a piece of mole skin in the ramrod pipe to keep it from rattling and some rags in the stock to balance it out and get rid of the hollow sound. That gun started it for me now I build muzzle loaders from blanks and parts.

I bought a Traditions Fox River 50 caliber that came with a 32 cal barrel. If memory serves me correctly I paid $ 100.00 for it. Back in the day 97 ish . I was oiling it down yesterday 9/27/23 when I noticed that the plastic butt plate had broken. I have taken at least one Whitetail Doe with it. I was using Buffalo ballets great.

I have what is probably the same gun but about 30 years old...its a Fox River Fifty that I ordered from Gander Mountain back in the pre internet days. I like that style for hunting..nice and light to carry..I found the best load for it was 85 grains of pyrodex under a soft lead ball with a thinner patch..I can generally get a 3 inch or better 3 shot group at 75 yards..which would be a long shot in the woods where I live..25 to maybe 45 yards would be most likely. Tried it with a few different sabotted .44 bullets and with solid lead bullets but I have never been to best the accuracy I get with a simple round ball.

Common history here. I got a similar rifle (I think it was a CVS) about 30 years ago too! Too help the old gentleman I got it for, I bought some plastic saboted 44 cal slugs in case he had to reload. That little gun put them about center on a 50 yard bull's eye too, about as shown in video or better. I didn't have time to work up a patch & ball load, as you know, takes some doing to find the best.

What you have here is the cva bobcat. Nice basic bp rifle. I love mine, you would be surprised at what you can do with a simple rifle like this. Great knock around gun. Try double patching a 45 round ball or sabot with a 36 pistol ball for rabbit or wood chuck.

well, I really enjoyed this shoot. As an English man, we don't get it. The opportunity to shoot muzzle leaders today. I have been considering a new rifle build, based on the box breach design of an English pocket pistol maker of 1860. having a box breech built into a side-held flintlock with a separate safety catch & pan lock built in is interesting. Adaptable the box breech makes room for stander telescopic sights & even iron sits & rear Verner & windage sites, the mine. ball & 28" barrel or the smother boor or Rifal being a choice & 1 in 28 inch twist being my choice. i think would make for a new & existing rifal. built whit half stoke & steel ram tod use. I may yet build my self one. best on the dimension's of the CDVA Bobcat for size. I wuld be interested to her back on the mind of them interested in such a design of rifal. Les England .

you need a new mole whacker, that thing is too long and whatever is on the end is gonna be hard on the front feet if you ask me. start by using that flat side of it to baton the ball level with the crown then you only need to go a couple inches with the starter, the rest should go easy with the ramrod. the starter you have seems to be a gimmick sold to novices to look, i don't know what in a plastic sort of over the mantel with a goat head way.
