I might have to try the clean boost mode in front of a solid state amp, I've noticed that solid state amplifiers like the randall RG1003H and the Orange Crush Pro 120 take clean boosts in front very well with certain pickups while still remaining tight and precise, all without making the amp sound sterile like a regular tube screamer would. There's so much to the world of solid state amplification that seems yet to be explored, it's mind boggling.
thank you for this demo, seems like a really versatile pedal! the part without amp distortion was very helpful, on the distorted channel I found the amp was driving the sound a bit too much to really make out the pedal part of the sound
@@Clutch3672 ah ok. I got the plunes a couple of days ago and tried it either side of my hoof and preferred it in front. I thought id ask as usually od goes after fuzz. Cheers for the reply dude 👍
Holy crap! Great video! I’m currently using a EHX Crayon into my Marshall JVM. Has some huge tone, but it seems like this carries the mids well. The Crayon only has bass and treble. Seems like there’s more tone choice in this one! Thanks again!
I just bought one of these, and I bought another EQD pedal last month. Their pedals don’t physically click like most pedals; it’s a soft switching mechanism that’s really nice, and the transition from off/on is silent. The switches in most of their pedals also use flexi-switch tech so you can temporarily latch an effect by holding your foot down on the switch, and when you lift up your foot, the effect turns off. That is also a seamless transition. They’re a really great outfit and if you ever have trouble, you can send it to them in Akron to fix it under limited lifetime.
Thanks for the demo here..sounds great..I didn't hear you say what amp you used here and didn't see it in comments..care to let us know ? Ordered mine today, should be here Wednesday..going to try it with my EVH 5150-3 50 watt head and matching 2-12" cab..also my little Friedman JJ Jr I got 2 weeks ago..can't wait ! I usually don't run or need a Tube Screamer type pedal, only boost pedals, but EQD makes awesome pedals so saw this one and found your video.
@@rosskrause3926 the OD 1 channel is great without a boost, at least until the tuning gets low enough. OD 2 is darker and has less gain so it really sounds good with a boost hitting it. plumes is pretty killer boosting into an amp for high gain. I was pretty surprised as how much I liked it
@Ross Krause How did it go with your EVH 5150? I’m planning on getting. The plumes for the Same amp. Playing high gain metal like 80s thrash and 90s death metal.
@@howardoligas1017 I sold it pretty fast after I got it..with my EVH 5150 3 head it just didn't sound good at all to me.. my amps just sound better with boost pedals. I should have kept it though because it was high quality and a great price. Now I have the EVH Stealth 50 watt head and the 15 watt LBX Stealth head so really I will stay with just eq and boost pedals. I can believe I've never seen this demo before I woulda grabbed this pedal a long time ago had I seen this demo amazing job , is this an original song ? The riffs are amazing
I'd say I'd buy it and send it to you but I just bought their Apex 808 and an airis nao and the cloud drive and lone wolfs burning spirit and slam pig and violence bump lol but if your interested in any of those I'll be happy to loan em to ya were both in the hmap group on FB
I do own the original 40th 808 the first one they released and that thing is night and day compared to the stock one not that the stock one is bad comparitively the 40th is just better at what I want it to do but I still love my og od
How tight compared to an SD-1 and Grind? Want something in between. Also looking at Amptweaker tight drive jr since it has a gate but I like the idea of the Plumes. Also off topic question what higher output/tighter passive bridge pup would you recommend for a Solar A1.7C? Stock pups are good but want something more “chuggy”
I like the plumes better personally. I just received one yesterday, and I think it’s quite a different pedal from your conventional tube screamer clone. The owner didn’t want “just another tube screamer”, so they engineered it differently, such as removing the dark, absent tone you get when you turn the tone all the way down. You still get clarity at that setting on the plumes. Also, the Plumes has three clipping modes so that you can switch among LED-based diodes, asymmetrical silicon diodes, or no diodes at all to really get a wide range of options that have distinctively different clipping modes.
Nice video. I bought one after watching this. Really great sounding pedal and works great with my Friedman Butterslax. It replaced my Savage Drive. A little more character.
I like both mode 3 and mode 2, mode 3 for the drive channel and mode 2 to keep the clean channel really clean, just boosted. For always on use, I prefer mode 2 on an Orange Amp.
I wouldnt really use the custom badass to boost into a high gain amp, but there is always a little dirt coming from that even with the gain knob dialed back. its a decent little OD for the some dirt, but with the clipping options and wide tone sweep on the plumes, all around I prefer the plumes
@@MetalHeadProductions Thanks for the prompt reply! I've been researching overdrive pedals pretty heavily and I just finished watching a video with Jeff Loomis playing the Plume. Decision made.

Anyone else see that the length of the video is 8:08 ?? What a coincidence !!!
good eye.
Says 8:09 for me
Just picked mine up this weekend. One of the coolest and best sounding pedals and I did a trade for something I got for free so 40.00 out of pocket
killer deal. \m/ \m/
I use it to push my cloven hoof. Killer review from the metal perspective

Do you run the plumes before or after the hoof?

Don’t know if you know this but the EQ of the crayon is active, meaning you could dial the knobs down and get a mid hump sound!
Does it pop when you switch on or off? I hate that pop sound.Thx.
nah, doesnt pop

Plumes vs precision drive???
Thoughts??
Depends on what you're going for. The PD is definitely drier and tighter
How bout this vs Keeleys Red Dirt.. This looks like a killer deal.
I'm using it with an evh5150 III, how would you advice to set it up with it?
