Watched "Woodstock" the other day. While Richie Havens, Santana, Joe Cocker and Ten Years After have more memorable performances in the film, this song by Canned Heat is the highlight for me. One, because it a single camera shot for the whole tune, the cameraman walking among the musicians on stage. And two, a fan rushes on stage, hugs the singer, who waves off a roadie who was going "help" the fan offstage. And the fan then helps himself to a cigarette from the singers pocket tee shirt. Classic.
After 43 years it puts a smile on my face to see the Blind Owl showing some emotion on this stage as he plays. Not much, but it's priceless for those of us who love this blues icon.

This is one of the finest blues performances ever put on film. The bassist completely in the groove, the drummer going incredibly hard, the guitars are wild and furious, the bear up front howling his lungs out but being so welcoming and friendly to that one guy. Magic happened right there
Bob "The Bear"!!!!!!!!!.... Love when the stage hand comes up to get the guy off stage and Bob puts his paw up and says... I got this, Its Cool Brotha, Its Cool!!!!.. lolol
This is my favorite Canned Heat lineup - Big Bob Hite ",Blind Owl " Wilson, Harvey " the Snake" Mandel ( epic guitar player who replaced Vestine for this gig , Fito de la Para (sp?) on drums and Larry Taylor on bass . Mandel 's searing solo is a nice addition to this song - these guys are so tight - it is as if they played together since birth . One of my time favorite videos ever on youtube . And there was never a br harmonica player than Wilson who was a musical genius.SO underrated !
Fun fact! This was Harvey Mandel’s (lead guitarist) 3rd performance with the group. I loved their set. And I love how Mandel essentially solo’d during the majority of this song haha. Peace love and happiness to all!

I was there as well. 69 now. Canned Heat was absolutely one of my top performers there. There was so much good, almost impossible to only pick even a few ... Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who. Everything you just mentioned. :)

I was not born until 71. So I made sure I attened woodstock 94!! it was a muddy waters blast!!
one of the best songs of canned heat!!!!!
the 60s are the best decade!
Proper music and blues - what a voice RIP ❤️ very talented band - brilliant live 😎
Stood test of time easily ! Sounds as fresh today as then ! Proper music 👌😊
Damn this band gives me chills!!!
This is wonderful,These were a class act,Al Wilson and big Bob,Sad their gone now,I was too young to get to Woodstock and on the wrong side of the Atlantic.Good luck all and greetings from Wales.
Oh, gimme a hell yeah! Canned Heat rocks with me, so greatful to have been young (really young) in those days, lovin' the music in my early 60s still, gimme a Hell Yeah!
Gotta love the guy on bass with the cigarette.
+☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ Larry "The Mole" Taylor
that's Tom waits bassist now!
☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ he’s a far out cat
☢ ᴅᴠᴅ ᴘʟᴀʏᴀ ☣ he’s jammin man!
“Cigarette” lmao
The spirit of blues and rock n' roll: play with all the soul, and talk with the fans.
Ah the good ol days when you can bum-rush the stage, hug the lead singer, steal one of his smokes without being pummeled by security. Where have all the good times gone??👍👍
A different time different vibe back then.
We didn't get how good it was back then , we look back and shit where did we go wrong, the music was so so much better we were free,a in every sense of the word and know shit is happening all over the world. PEACE BE WITH YOU MY FRIEND'S.✌️✌️✌️😎😎😎🏴🏴🏴🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦
These guys are amazing live..saw them in Niagara Falls..always wanted to see them..great show..RIP. Blind Owl
I will remember the heat like many others. Some may forget but I won’t forget the boogie maaan
Absolutely love this, one of my favourite songs and arguably the best performance at Woodstock - just wish the video was longer!
You can see this whole set on the Directors Cut, released by Warner Bros in 2009 for the 40th anniversary, its on DVD, Check Amazon.
@@grannysyardsaledotcom9233 Grannys ya... wow ! Ty soo much ! I will check Amazon! I didnt know !
The unbelievably talented Al Wilson on guitar. The man who showed Son House how to play his own songs when he had forgotten how after not playing for 30 odd years.
I had never heard of Canned Heat until I purchased the box set Woodstock: Three Days of Peace and Music. After seeing this, it is easy to say that today's music will never compare this performance and many others like it at Woodstock.
Jason Rich it was certainly missing some bands. Taste, cream, the Beatles, and zeppelin should have been there.
I can’t remember if TYA or free was there but they should have been too if they weren’t.
@@oldtimetinfoilhatwearer I think Cream had broken up then, but Taste with Rory Gallagher would have been off the hook.
daniel213141 yeah I just realized that they had broken up by then
@@oldtimetinfoilhatwearer TYA was there, they did a a 10 hour version of "I'm Goin Home." Alvin set a Guinness world record for saying "I'm goin home" a billion times.
Beautiful baby..... Just BEAUTIFUL
they don't make music 🎶 like this anymore this was the best concert of the 196OS 😊🎉❤🎉😊😊/😊😊😊😊😊😊 TLC/OMG 5 26 2O23
Whaaaaaa... this must be the biggest and highest tease I can imagine stopping the music like this, fortunately the music keeps going on in my head like there's no end
I didn't know that there can be so many tons of epicness only in a song.
LOVE THIS.
Johnny Kos this song blows my mind
So glad to find this video. This song is not on any of their albums. Thanks for posting!
Marvelous, Amazing, Incredible, Authentic so was the glorious music of Canned ... !!
these guys knew the blues & FELT it too.. this is just pure music right here and more evidence of why Canned Heat was one of the best Blues bands to exist (60’s or anytime)
They studied the music genre
“Bob was so big that when he was jumping on stage the whole thing would move up and down with him,”
My Fathers recollections of seeing canned heat in the 60’s and 70’s
Jonnyreb1988 your dad is badass!
I was fortunate to be with them new year 1972
This is one of the finest blues performances ever put on film.
I got this, Its Cool Brotha, Its Cool!!!!.. lolol
Seen this a few times now, just gets better.
💯‼️
Amazing voice, great sound and solo guitar, free spirits on stage.
This is my favorite performance of all time from Woodstock. I love how cool they were about their new friend lol.
Huge Canned Heat Fan on stage: "Give me a light, Bear!" Blues = fire!
And there was never a br harmonica player than Wilson who was a musical genius.SO underrated !
great voice, great talent, fantastic band, God Bless Bob Hite and all Band. strainght from here CAMPINAS CITY .São paulo. Brazil. Marcio Leonel
Whenever i feel like listening to some real music i go back to this gem.TY
Never heard Canned heat before. Love the way he handled the fan.
Greatest band ever
So Blessed2 be born just over the Louisianan line in the 50s Southern by birth right & blood! Amen
Love the blind owl's solo...
John Gardner the way walks up is awsome
Me 2. So simple yet so complex
It is amazing
I love how free everything is. The music, the band, the people. Truly a special time in history. These people had it made.
One of my favorite live performances all time perfect in every way
Larry "The Mole" Taylor and Bob "The Bear" Hite... the best attitude on the stage!
Fun fact! This was Harvey Mandel’s (lead guitarist) 3rd performance with the group. I loved their set. And I love how Mandel essentially solo’d during the majority of this song haha. Peace love and happiness to all!
Alan's solo was blistering also
Jimmy Page says this is one of his favorite bands.
I remember “goin up the country “ - loved it - different , sorta the hippie era . Thank you !
Heavy Blues
Long live The Bear, The Blind Owl and The Mole.
The Bassist sure enjoys his work...
That cigarette in Larry’s bass kills me
Pure Awesomeness!!!! It's really ashame, kids now will probably never be able to experience something like this......
Ass-kicking machine of music still to this day what powerful music 🌎🇺🇲🙏❤️✌️ what a great band
You can feel the great and powerful ever lovin' vibes still coming through right now!!! 🥰🧡💛💚💙
I was there.
I'm really excited that someone from the woodstock comment here.
UncleBob223 so was my husband..and many from here..it is not that far from us..wet and muddy is how he describes it
UncleBob223 What a lucky man
+UncleBob223 vientos saludos! en Wooodstock, lucky
+UncleBob223 good for you u fuckin piece of shit
This is one of my very favorite music videos. Way back a friend had an old 4 track tape player and we hooked it up to see if it worked . Worked real good but the only tape we had was Canned Heat with Refried Hockey Boogie. Still one of my all time favorites
still amazing until today! Nice to see all old friends together! Only Fito is still a part living together with us now. R.I.P. the other's , we meet us again.
Canned heat never get tired of motivation mood and chilling right on in the sun in cali
Groupe mythique, , le temps passe vite, mais c'était le bon temps ces années là ! J'adore ce groupe, malheureusement trois sont partis rejoindre les cieux ! Merci pour ce partage !
The Bass Player with Canned Heat Looks Like HE'S HIGH on The Kite.!..GREAT BAND....You Won't find Epic Bands Like That Today....I'm Glad I was born in '73....
Actually he was the only one in the band who didn't do drugs. He had Henry kicked out of the band for being too high to play correctly.
I was 4 years old. Didn't appreciate them until 1980. Woodstock Box Set, was a paramount discovery for me. Canned Heat put down some serious energy.
Saw the band live many times live--- unbelievably awesome each time
This just rippin it! The combination of sound that come spontaneous from the live instruments is awesome. Bass man is just eating it up and the camera work is top class. Brilliant.
They were all top notch musicians and played every song with passion.
I was right up front at this ....As far as I was concerned Woodstock started with this set....And ended, where I was WAY up front, a wide eyed 16 yr old from rural Vermont, with Jimi's arguably THE best set ( his longest at 2 hours...) in history of live rock shows...Allman Bros at Fillmore, I also saw, but it was like men vs boys compared to Jimi at Woodstock...BUT, Canned Heat absolutely rocked the crowd at sundown, Sat night (Janis, Johnny Winter, Mountain , Ten Yeara After, among others blasted us into Sun AM, half way mark to Jimi ( The Band BLEW me away, early Sun AM, along with CSN&Y n Paul Butterfield...).
I was there as well. 69 now. Canned Heat was absolutely one of my top performers there. There was so much good, almost impossible to only pick even a few ... Janis Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who. Everything you just mentioned. :)
Peter, me, Barney and Macka caught a ride at Main + So. Winooski Ave. to Vergennes on Thursday; then from Vergennes all the way to the concert. Afterwards on Monday we thumbed a ride in about 5 minutes right back to Church St.
That guitarist is really good. They were a few years before my time. Never paid much attention but this music is great. I'll have to check them out more. Powerful performance!
