Thankyou good information.👍 It is starting to look fairly complicated in this part of the country.
Can I ask a couple of questions?
As regards to the train, what about arriving with the bike already in an Ikea Dimpa bag stuffed with a few clothes etc - Would that work?
If the coach is the only option would the coach from Kamunting still put you off 7.5 out from Ipoh city?

Dimpla bag and don't dress up in any cycling garb, and you should be ok, but be prepared to take the bus in Kamunting which is only a couple of miles away from the train station, the benefit of taking the train, is when you arrive in Ipoh, it is right at the heart of Ipoh City with easy access to food and accomodation.
If travelling by bus, then all bus must terminate at Meru Raya, yes, 7.5 miles from Ipoh City Centre. I suppose you could take a taxi push come to shove, but I would just planned it into your cycle trip, but do be mindful of busy highways, it will come as a shock to me at least, but I soon got used to it.
Taxi is always an option might cost more at around £50 from Taiping to Ipoh (but that would reduce the adventure vibe :).
Did I mention Grab app useful for taking taxis (much like Uber). You already know about Bookingg.com, works a treat.

@@ODOB Thanks, good info. You know I'm going to blame you if it all goes haywire.
I'm now looking at maybe making my way up a bit further from Penang to Langkawi island for a couple of days. It appears to be OK (albeit a few steep ones) for cyclists. It looks amazing.
I'm realising now that 25 days might not be long enough.

@@OAPMeander That's the thing about adventures, you don't want a perfect plan.
I forgot to mention, the Grab app, can only be registered against your UK card once you are actually in Malaysia.
I tried doing it using my Barclays card in the UK, and it didn't work and found out you have to be in Malaysia to do that. Registering your card is how you would top up the Grab app, and now you could even use it to buy food and have it delivered, but I had only ever used it for hiring cars.
All the way to Langkawi huh, you're brave. Can't wait for the vids.
