I keep watching this review having an internal battle whether I want this or not. It’s still fairly available. I consider a beautiful, near perfect sculpt. The parts falling away dont bother me much because I tend to pose and leave alone my figures. But I’ve seen some reviews where feet and arms fall off under their own weight and that’s pretty bad. But damn does it look good
I got mine yesterday & some of the joints are a little loose but not a deal breaker. So far only the head has fallen off repeatedly but I found a way to avoid that: Always press DOWN when you manipulate the head so it stays planted on the socket. Hasn't fallen off since. The right hand fell off once, but that's it. Loose joints are easily fixable with floor wax. I'm gonna inject some into the right ankle joint as that's a common problem I have with Mafex in general. In general I'm really digging the Big Chap as it looks really cinematic under good lighting. I easily got it into the iconic hunched-down pose & the attack pose with mouth open & teeth out. It's surprisingly easy to stand up without the stand ( or even the tail as a kickstand ) I thought for sure it would face plant all the time but just the same I'm gonna stiffen up the right ankle joint with some floor wax. I'm also gonna look for a less obnoxious looking stand as the plastic clamp just interferes with the look of this & all Mafex figures.
That's too bad. Mafex is still hit & miss with it's QC. You could maybe try the floor wax trick, unless it's just easier to get a replacement. Here's a good video for that: ruclips.net/video/lN9pPQauvwI/видео.html
When I saw this new Mafex Big Chap I knew I had to get it., unfortunately just out of the box, the left arm fell off!! then the upper torso separated from the waist!! I was so disappointed with this figure... but the HR Giger design is spot on,... I will overlook it’s flaws only because of its screen accuracy.
That head is very menacing looking with the more transparent dome (than the NECA BC) allowing for a much better view of the skull underneath. Provides sort of a chilling immediate impression when viewing which I really love that about this fig. Also prefer the size of this guy a bit better than the NECA line for display with other 1:12 scale figs. Accessories are also cool but not as good as NECA accessories IMO. The QC issues inconsistency between the 2 figs. is very disappointing so guess I'll now have to think about whether to take a risk on ordering this guy since he's not cheap. I'm hoping Mafex goes all in on producing a complete Alien movie line of figs in 1:12 scale as with their recent face print tech. improvements would definitely look forward to that. Wow, that pkg. shape was completely ridiculous, sigh. I'd prolly pay a visit to the USPS & see what I could get in terms of a refund for whatever insurance is available. I'd also request Ami Ami to exchange the one with the QC issues as I've heard (from other videos) they are pretty good about that stuff (although fortunately I've never had an issue with anything I've received from them). Great review & comparables so thanks much!
Oh, well, my mafex alien has fine joints, only arm was falling off. I fixed it with hairdryer, the joint plastic got tightened up after that. Though, i am concerned about sturdiness of it's plastic, it seems too light, too fragile, but at the same time, it survived some forceful handling, maybe it will last not so long, dunno.
A huge issue I found on the figure is how the dome seems to be too lose and maybe even oversized I don't know if you just don't have it on right but it looks awful
Great review! I was looking forward to this since it was anounced a year ago! Not many reviews out there yet but I get the feeling that this does not worth a $100 usd... A shame since I love the accuracy for the head... The only real articulated figure with a perfect likeness
I have none of these issues you mentioned. My figure's joints are tight and they are stiff enough that I really have to try to get them off. I guess I lucked out.
@@dHuntersReviews yeah the thing about Mafex is their lac kof consistency. My MAn of Steel figure is terrible, I had to glue things. But this alien one is superb
i think generally you do the best comparisons but i gotta say here they're somewhat lacking, this is basically a correctly sized 1:12 scale big chap, the ONLY super detailed and super articulated one we have in this scale, so it would have been nice to see him with some 1:12 scale figs...
I personally think he’s too small for 1:12 I think the neca ones are too large, but can be fudged in with 1:12 scale This guy is like the same height as 1:12 figures, but scales too small because he should be larger than a man, at least a little
@@dHuntersReviews 1:12 scale means 1 inch=1 foot ( star wars black series and figuarts typically follows this principle), now, Bolaji Badejo who was in the big chap suit was about 6'9 and 7'2 with the suit, this mafex big chap stands about 8 inches so you do the math, if anything this guy is to TALL even for for 1:12 strictly speaking, but he still looks great with 1:12 figures and i'm a strict 1:12 collector so i'm super happy about that, somehow i was able to miss that this guy came out couple of years ago, it's beyong me how i could miss that...
Great review, I just wish to give us a better idea he had done more face hugger comparisons...

I have one that I would say is great quality and one that is awful and I should ask for a replacement.

I don't know if you just don't have it on right but it looks awful
about the extremely loose joints, i've seen people on youtube use nail polish to tighten these kinds of joints, it should work

For mine, it was worth it. mine has none of these issues. Seems like it can vary from figure to figure
