Hey Joe, Love the Camera, makes you look 20 years younger, how do I get one ;) ? Quick question, If the bees have a Queen Pheromone strip in the hive and they think they are Queen right, why are the bees Fanning for a Virgin Queen? Is it because the strip is stationary and not moving around the hive do you think spreading the Pheromone across all the attendant bees? Just hypothesising here, would it be better to either have the strip down near the entrance, or move the strip around the hive to stop the girls calling for a Virgin / mated queen? Thanks for the videos, they are really educational, sorry if my question is a bit ignorant, I'm still doing a lot of learning.
Like the fanning in virgins. That is what happened to a difficult hive that would not take a cell or offered virgin that did not make it back from mating. Had virgin in 2 frame box and she left and moved ten yards to the difficult hive and all is hunky Dory.

Reason i ask is I want to try to start a hive from a swarm without any foundation. I know it will take longer but im just curious. Does she help build comb? Does it have a negative affect on her egg production?
Swarms are the fastest comb builders there are. They load up with honey before they swarm, when they get to their new home they start drawing comb right away.

If you move bees around they will sometimes fan at the entrance to tell the rest she is in here.
