Never will get tired of hearing him sing, or meeting him after Styx concerts. Lawerence is an amazing musician/singer and is so laid back it's unreal. I always end up having 10-20 minute conversations with him after shows (when Styx plays small venues) He's so awesome and works a crowd like no other
Gowan was amazing live. His voice is so beautiful,it carries and fills the arena.Love this man.Always been a proud Canadian Music, everything Canadian lover.
This is the most haunting song and hubby was able to give the context. In this crazy world thank you for intuitive lyrics that ask us to look at life a differently. From a cold stone to another, protect your inner self.
I fell in love with Gowan when I was 12 years old watching him play live at the SuperEx (fair in Ottawa - 1987) and I’ve loved him and his music ever since. I’m 47 years old now and I still listen to his albums. One of my favourite 80’s singers of all time 😍🎶❤️
I’m not a musician myself, but it’s neat to see someone that good feel the music like that. When he moves across the stage & goes to each station, you can tell he’s playing each instrument in his mind. Good stuff
During COVID-19 shut downs, he did a Christmas special in a closed theatre in Cobourg, Ontario. Just him singing with his theatrical voice "haunting the stairways and halls." His son appeared a few times to accompany on drums. No audience. Empty. He's such a total artist I anticipated he could pull it off and he more than excelled. It was freely streamed but I definitely sent in money since there's no way I'd get another opportunity to show my appreciation.
Happy birthday. Mr. Gowan (Nov 22). Jim Cuddy said Lawrence Gowan is one of the best hockey players amongst the musicians - and Cuddy himself plays very well.
Amazing... simply amazing. You can feel the respect the other musicians on stage have for Gowan and the for song, and the sheer pleasure of playing it. And what about Gowan's voice. He doesn't age! (I know ... this was 11 years ago, but still!!!!!)
It took me an entire week to remember who did this song. I couldn’t remember any of the lyrics besides the word “criminal” and “all I’ve ever known/had”, and that perfect unforgettable melody. No lyric or melody searches helped, I only finally succeeded by googling “Canadian 80’s hits” and going several pages deep.
Gowan's interesting story about this from an exhibit at the Canadian National Exhibition that inspired this song is a must to hear. A song based on true experiences of criminals who keep returning to jail time after time after time again. It's chilling!
I like hip hop .. I grew up on it.. I have always listened to this song but the hip hop version " criminal mind " by maestro and gowen . That's the only song that I can put on and "escape" close my eyes and forget just how shitty my life is beside having the most gorgeous daughter that I could ask for.. I wake up every morning not 4 myself but for . The best thing I could ask for my beautiful daughter...I'm sooo proud to be her father ... shes the only "thing" i havent failed at..
This song is brilliant. An accurate account of the darkest minds to walk the earth. The most clever hiding in plain sight, in the place you would least expect. They want you to believe you are safe with them, but you are anything but.
He has two ver successful children. One her is an award winning professional drummer and his daughter is a Dr. on the staff of two hospitals in the States. Then there is Lawrence the most talented entertainer in Canada and since joining Styx known around the world.
When Gowan sings..."I'm numb to pain"...When I first heard this song many years ago here...I really thought that Gowan was singing..."I love to paint"!! Regarding the movie "Escape From Alcatraz"...Which is the movie that Clint Eastwood starred in as Frank Morris!! There was a character in this movie that LOVED TO PAINT and he painted a portrait of the warden...1 day, the warden was going through the prison and as he was walking through, he was twirling his nail clippers here and all of a sudden, they flew out of his hand and landed in the prison cell of this prisoner who LOVED TO PAINT!! Well, he looked at the portrait that this prisoner painted of him and for some reason and or reasons, he did NOT really like he was painted in the portrait here......And...So, in 1 of the next few scenes, he is in his office with an prison employee and tells that person that he wants this certain prisoner's painting privileges to be taken away from him!! RIGHT AWAY!!...And...Because of this UNcalled for action of the warden here...1 day in the workshop when the prisoners were making wooden furniture here...Since the warden took away this prisoner's only thing that he loved to do here...The poor prisoner actually took an axe and cut off his own fingers here!! Sorry to go into the whole history of exactly why I was thinking that Gowan was singing..."I love to paint"...But...I just could NOT resist here at all!! LOVE GOWAN AND HE IS 1 TALENTED CANADIAN MUSICAL ARTIST INDEED!!...And...Of ALL of the songs that he has ever written and sung and played on record and on the stage...THIS VERY SONG...**CRIMINAL MIND**...IS MY MOST FAVE SONG OF GOWAN'S EVER EVER EVER EVER HERE INDEED!!
I like the Styx version of this tune, but I like this version better because it is longer with extra words or verses. Or whatever. Don't try to reform me.
I also mentioned that every horse that people see today is actually a unicorn which we just can't see the horns because I watched The Last Unicorn and when she stepped out of the mat mystical Forest that which put a Spell on her so no one would see her so all the horses we see today or actually unicorns but we just can't see the horns
Love Gowan! He’s unreal live. So glad I saw him. Thank you Gowan! 4 ever! 💪🏻💯🏆
What a moment for him to play with his son on drums and for his son to play with his dad on such a famous song!
that's his son?

The master. The musician
A true Canadian talent. Wished I seen him when he played in Toronto when I was young.

I think it's Danny J on guitars, but not sure.
I swear the introduction sounds very similar to Robin Zander’s Time Will Let you Know. Interesting song.

I've always seen A Criminal Mind as the quintessential protest song for Canadians, the sort of song to be sung through clenched teeth.
but y would he walk away from music he was great
great song to do at karaoke, I do it justice I think
