It is one thing when you have just 1 pick, if you do not pick the BPA if you like someone else better but when you have 3 in row, come on, what where they thinking? If they really didnt like him, they should have traded a pick out of those 3. Worse draft decension i have seen.

    This is why NHL players rarely go broke once they retire.
    Meanwhile players from other sports, especially NFL, buy a mansion before their first check even clears.
    Barzal is one of many that wont need a coaching or broadcasting job once he retires.

    • @isabellegloutnay4983
      @isabellegloutnay4983 6 лет назад +105

      NothingToPointOut24 because most NFL players were in poverty so the minute they got their check, they felt like they needed to buy everything. A bit différent for nhl players. Families had enough money to provide for everything in the house

    • @NothingToPointOut24
      @NothingToPointOut24 6 лет назад +70

      No doubt the way NHL players grew up was very different than the way NFL players did, but you'd think, or I think atleast, that growing up poor would make them respect money a little more. How a person can blow millions of dollars in a short amount of time is beyond me. You can live very nicely off of a those contracts without living above your head. Its the jewelry, 3rd and 4th cars, boats and $10,000 nights out that puts those guys in the poor house.

      NHLers, in the main, are cut from very different cloths comparied to professional athletes in, say, American football, soccer, or basketball.
      They seem to be uniformly humble, grounded, down-to-earth, self-assured, dedicated, hard-working men.
      Another reason why I respect hockey culture.

    I remember watching the 2015 draft thinking he was going top 5 or so...
    my bruins had 3 consecutive picks and PASSED UP ON HIM.
    I couldn’t fucking believe it. I love Sweeney and the things he’s done but that’s one thing I’ll never forgive him for. I knew this guy was going to be good, they took Zachary senyshyn over this goat
    Salty B’s fan, but I’m glad he went where to NY because now he has the shot to be a #1 center where as in Boston he would’ve been drowned out like Seguin was.

    It makes me sick as an Oilers fan watching this guy play. He's such a great player! What's even worse is that we wouldn't have taken him anyway! Shows how good our scouting staff is!!! The Islanders love to trade with us, we give up high picks and good players and take their garbage!

      I feel the same. Being fully aware of Barzal, when the OIlers got to #16 I was screaming at the TV for them to take him, then they made that stupid announcement of a trade for Reinhart. Sadly you're right, word is they wanted Ek who ended up in Minnesota. Brutal scouting staff is what got the Oilers into this mess the last decade. Mind you, if Edmonton did take him, they might not have shown the patience NYI did by sending him back to junior twice, and then giving him first line PP duty once he arrived. I don't think he gets 85 points as a rookie with the Oilers, simply because I doubt he would have gotten the same ice time (even though he should). I wouldn't trust them to do the right thing with him.
