The Last Bridge

A record of the removal, during 2015 - 2016, of the last road bridge over the former track bed of the railway to the long demolished Consett steelworks.
Showing the extensive use made of this link within the local Leadgate community, was this the removal of a traffic bottleneck or did it mark the end of an era?

Thanks for your comments. I'd read that this bridge, the last one in Leadgate forming part of what was once the old rail link to Consett steelworks, was to be demolished. The whole civil engineering project took far longer than scheduled and it was difficult to anticipate when major events (such as the removal of the decks) were going to take place. I took to always having a movie camera with me and driving past the site almost daily for 18 months or so. You can never have too much material. The only problem is deciding what to use in the final edit!
