In Bolivia we call it "Guajojo". The most popular legend around is about a girl, daughter of a tribe's shaman. The girl was in love with a warrior but the Shaman despises the idea of her daughter marrying a warrior. The shaman sent the warriors from the tribe to kill rivaling tribes expexting the man's death, but he returned victorious. Instead of being satisfied or pleased, he was frustrated and full with anger. He invited the warrior to talk deep within the forest. The daughter was suspicious of his father's intentions and followed them in secret to their meeting point. As soon as they were far enough, the shaman killed the warrior in cold blood while the daughter saw it all. His daughter threatened him with telling the tribe of what happened. The shaman was not going to let that happen, and decided to cast a curse upon her daughter. She became a bird, and at night she mourns the loss of her lover with that eerie sound of hers.

@@mr.ponstan7522 It's the yellow eyed one xd
@@tainycassu1699 I looked them up and you are right. I still think they are cool looking. Wish I had them here where I live.
@@mr.ponstan7522 haha, see? i told you. And yeah, they´re both really cool, wish you had them, especially because one looks like a cute ghost and the other one like a junkie. They are beautiful birds.

🤣🤣💀
Such beautiful birds thank you for sharing
Thanks for visiting
here in Brazil we call it Urutau, but known as Mãe da Lua (mother of the moon)
They are so freaking cute 💜
I can say the opposite
Also known as the bird "Soul Seeker", they're cute though ❤
These are the sweetest and cutest little souls. How could
you not love that face?
These are some of the strangest birbs I've ever seen. My gosh they sing beautifully!
Eu sou do norte do Brasil, do estado do Pará e aqui chamamos de Urutau ou urutaí. Amo esse pássaro, eu dormia ouvindo ele cantar em noites de lua cheia. É mágico.
aeeee paraense
❤ You are very lucky!!❤
do you have Brazilian wax done?
@@lordjaashin
You realize Brazilian wax isn't actually Brazilian right?
That thing's got the best smile of any bird species
I don't see the 'creepy'.??
These guys are freaking cute, and playful looking. They just look innocently happy. Plus, their voices are elegant, delicate, and relaxing. They're positively adorable. 🥰
Concordo e eu sou do Brasil, e adoro ouvir seus cantos.❤
Ikr!
I love them! They're so adorable and they sound like they're whistling!🥰
I'm from one of the regions where this birds is from. It's a beautiful bird, unfortunately there are some people who believe this bird is a bad omen or a witch and kill it.
Thats sad. People be people I guess.
That's sad, but I also kinda get it from a primal sort of level.
The fact there are not more cryptids based off sightings of these things is surprising.
PANCAKEMINEZZ Witchcraft has always been part of Colombia's history. It's carved in the minds of some people in the rural areas, where cities and scientific beliefs are less common. It's fascinating but it also breeds behaviors like this. Fortunately state ecologists are spreading the harmless nature of this creature
Sometimes I hate people
@@visionist7 ‘Oftentimes’, I do too 😔
As scary as it looks and sounds, the name "potoo" undoes it all xD
So beautiful, but honestly if I was alone in the woods at night and heard that call, I'd want to get out of there as fast as I can 😂
I remember asking my father what was that sound. I was really scared but fascinated at the same time. Even knowing it was a bird (because dad told me), it took many years until I saw it for the first time and realized it was cute and not scary at all. Here in my region in Brazil it's called "Urutau".
That thing is probably responsible for so many South American horror folklore tales. I could just imagine hearing that howl at 1 am in the forest…👻
Ouch! It's very creey 😖😣. I got goosebumps 💥💥🥶🥶
He straight up did the “Goofy yell” 😂
Whaa hoo hoo hooey
So many amazing species of birds and animals in this world. Majestic
If I see that thing while I’m walking at night. OH HELL NAHHH
He is just the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen!
Are you sure because it looks creepy at night and it looks like a nightmare
It's so adorable 😭
What a huggable little fellow 🥰
That is so cute❤❤❤
They look so cartoony I love them
That's the cutest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
Fr lol
bro that thing is terrifying
What a cool animal
indeed
It’s so cute
Haunting? That's a beautiful howl.
The Great Potoo looks cute but also terrifying at the same time, so I probably won’t know how to react when I see one
Am I just out of humor or my brain is telling me from the start this bird is just adorable
Gente é o pássaro mais lindo e fofo que vcs possa imaginar ❤❤❤❤
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
The reflective colours of their eyes at night are so pretty ..not just the usual colours but with purples pinks reds aswell as yellow greens and blues..an amazing difference to the black during the day. And they do indeed look similar to owls ..i hadn't thought about that before but definitely seeing the resemblance now
they are soooo cuteeee. ♡♡♡ They make noise when they see their pray like a happy child. I love them.

We call it Urutau. DANG IT IS SO CUUUTE AND i used to live in a house which had a big tree in front of it. There was always a sweet unseen one singing, sat on the tree. Always at night. So calming!
