Lovely, thanks. This has been my ride to work (Innertkirchen to Zurich, once a week, for 4 Y, 1 per Week) some time ago. Nice to see and "ride it in the memories" again. It was a nice time, living for the weekend in Innertkirchen in a Chalet and Hiking the boots of the feet. If you have chance of visiting the area: you won't be sorry at all...you'll love it. Thanks for the ride !
That is a wonderful way to live life, working in the attractive city of Zurich in the week and spending weekends hiking in the beautiful countryside around Innertkirchen. I will return to spend more time there, just not quite sure when, there are so many awesome places to visit in the world and only one lifetime to try and fit it all in.
Ich stimme zu, die Schweiz und Österreich sind wunderschöne Länder. Ich freue mich darauf, sie wieder besuchen zu können, wenn die Reisebeschränkungen aufgehoben werden.
Tim, what a stunning if unplanned diversion! The best ‘seat in the house’, too. I realise that you posted this some 4 years ago - but I’ve only just stumbled upon it whilst attempting to salve the angst stemming from the worldwide pandemic. I realise your wanderlust and family connections, like so many, have been stymied by the travel bans and hygiene regulations. I thank YT and channel/content producers, like you, for the colourful access to a wealth of diversionary, time filling viewing, that takes me away from four walls and COVID lockdown. Peter
Hi Peter, although I can't visit my family, they are good at staying in touch via the internet, imagine how isolated we'd feel if the virus had struck before the internet was a thing. I watch very little regular TV, it's so depressing, at a time when people need light entertainment, why are we being hit with a never ending succession of broadcasts about how bad things are. Here in the UK the vaccine is being rolled out, how is it going where you are? There is light at the end of the tunnel, besides I enjoy watching Netflix and RUclips. My day job is keeping me busy, no risk of catching the virus on my commute to work, I step out of my back door, stroke the cat for a minute or two then unlock and enter my workshop. I work alone, the only person I see most days is my wife. I reply to RUclips comments when I've got my machines running. It's not a bad life, although I do miss the company of other people at times. Naturally, I'm looking forward to the lifting of restrictions, I miss travelling. Take care and stay safe. Tim.
Tim, like you I am subject to Tier 4 England, being just down the coast, beyond the IoW, in Dorset. One of my sons is in Aus with three of my grandchildren; whereas another son is in the UK with two more grandchildren. There is another adult grandchild, somewhere in UK, though we haven’t seen much of her since a baby. Ive finally had the hip surgery that was delayed for over 2 years, so I’m keeping a low profile in lockdown, except for exercise including cycling to build up muscle mass that shrank in the NHS waiting game. FaceTime, skype, videos and phone calls keep contact with the Aussie contingent. But the youngest has recently moved from Kindie to start school and changed from the baby to a confident little boy. Our visit to them was overdue with my early surgery ‘wait’, before COVID protection measures further delayed the (then) scheduled op date by a further 9 months. Luckily I went under the knife during the ‘catchup’ period, in early December, with COVID test and much stated risk of catching it in hospital, before the hospital doors slammed shut again with the winter ‘wave’. I didn’t stay as an inpatient for long. Less than 50 hours; but 6 week follow up clinic is all by phone and physiotherapy is none existent. Just keep following the diagrams in the booklet. DIY recovery. Enough of my moaning. I’m so pleased that I had the Op over two years after it was identified as necessary. Peter
@@Pjs75 Hi Peter, you live in a nice area, the lock-down restrictions are very limiting although I'm lucky to have a garden and a reasonable size house, it makes life a lot easier, it must be tough for people with children living in a high rise flat with no outdoor space in one of the big cities. By the time I'm allowed to visit my son in New Zealand again, it is likely 3 years will have passed, the next time I'll see my granddaughter, she will no longer be a little girl, she'll be a young lady. From your comment, I can see you are also missing out on seeing your grandchildren growing up. You were fortunate to get your hip op when you did, it could be a long time before hospitals are preforming routine surgery again. I hope you make a complete recovery, DIY recuperation is a better option than meeting too many health workers at the moment. Take care and stay safe. Tim.
Tim, the last time we met up with my Aussie family was 2016: during their visit to the UK. Our last visit to their home was Nov-Dec 2015 as the third Aussie grandchild had just arrived. Between then and now was punctuated with unwanted medical referrals and a procession of false-start waiting times. Since the pandemic broke, as you realise, travel plans are just on hold, whilst the clock ticks inevitably onwards. Since ‘marking time’ has become essential, I’ve found (amongst others) your You Tube channel has given me a vicarious sense of freedom. Watching your productions that captured changing scenery, especially foreign vistas, when amplified through a modern wide screen TV display, as I do my exercise routine, has brought a welcome sense of freedom, within the strictures of social control. Thank you for sharing as I have travelled far and wide during this last year. Keep safe and well. Regards Peter
@@Pjs75 Getting on for 5 years is a long time to miss form watching grandchildren grow up, hopefully it won't be too much longer. Travel is off the radar for at least the next 3 months, with a bit of luck some travel will be allowed before the end of the year. Once spring arrives, it will be nice to get out to do some gardening, it used to be a chore, now it's a break from being stuck indoors. I am grateful the the many RUclips creators who post to the platform, especially travel related stuff. My CNC milling machine has just stopped, I'll be spending the rest of the week on a manual lathe, no more daytime RUclips viewing at least until next week. Stay safe. Tim.
I enjoyed this video. I love the mountains, lucious greens, river, cattle grazing (my favorite), scenery. Wonderful video that mesmerizes. If you like Switzerland and what it has to offer, this video is for you. I doubled my pleasure with the return trip!!

You will be overloaded with reactions from me.(hope you don't mind) So beautiful this line. And all are happy to help you film your footage. Love it. Thanks for this one too♥ x Debby
Debby, it's nice to hear from people, being able to comment sets RUclips apart from other media outlets, it makes it more real, not just a picture on a screen, TV is all about stars and wannabe stars, although I admit to enjoying Micheal Portillo and Micheal Palin's travel adventures. RUclips is about real people sharing real experiences, I rarely watch TV these days.
@@Kwebbel48 TV has plenty of choice, even if the best programs were made in the last century, but it can't match RUclips for choice. Why watch staged reality TV when you can watch the real thing?

Thank you, it's nice to hear from you, Switzerland is so stunningly beautiful, a camera pointed in almost any direction will record a masterpiece. The Swiss and mother nature got together to create near perfection. Take care and stay safe. Tim.
Nice driver, nice trip! Great run-up to the tunnel and the river was stunning, good trout spot perhaps. The scenery is of course the usual stunning views one expects of Switzerland. Passengers can ride with the driver (North American "engineer") on the Music City Star between Riverfront Station, Nashville and Lebanon, Tennessee, USA. When the locomotives lead you can't ride in the cab but going the other way you can ride on the left side of the upper deck right behind the windscreen. By 2022 it is planned for ex-Nashville, Chattanooga & St Louis Railway J3 4-8-4 #576 to be pulling Tennessee Central Railway Museum excursion trains, currently diesel hauled, between Riverfront and Cookeville or Monterey, Tennessee. The track was built and operated by the Tennessee Central Railway/Railroad until 1968. It is currently the Nashville & Eastern RR.
Did this one last year. We walked through the Aare Gorge and got the train back at the smallest station in the world, just an electric door in the wall of the mountain behind which the train stops in the tunnel!
Hi, I didn't know the Aare gorge existed until I edited this video and noticed it whist checking spellings using Google Earth. Its looks amazing, now I've got a good reason to return,
I loved it! Everything I could see and experience was just great. Seeing how the crossing gates block the whole road (sorely needed in the US) to how clean the surrounds are kept and the mountains was a fantastic eyeful. But the one unnerving thing thing though was the man appearing out of nowhere at 13:48. 😬 ** Thank you for leaving in the long tunnel on the return trip. In that tunnel there are what appear to be cavities along the left side. Is there any significance to them ie escape tunnels or just the way the rock broke during construction? The sound the train was making when getting up to speed after a stop reminded me of the sound the flying saucers made in the 50s movie, Earth Verse The Flying Saucers. The two sound the same to me. If the train cars haven't changed too much since 58ish I think we have a match. I'm grateful to you for these shots and to the engineers for allowing the cameras to make these possible. Outstanding any way I can see it. Thank you. ** I know it was in the editing to shorten the stop. Or was it?
+Bob Stinson Usually I make people disappear with my video edits, but this time I made one appear or maybe it was the aliens. This is a link to show the river right next to the tunnel ..... ruclips.net/video/l4J9WN7v8es/видео.html .... You asked about the cavities in the rock, one was a station, take a look at this photo ..... www.tripadvisor.co.uk/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g188083-d2284314-i143170387-Aare_Gorge-Meiringen_Bernese_Oberland_Canton_of_Bern.html .... the sound the train made reminded me of London Underground trains, but a flying saucer sounds more likely, given that an alien also appeared. The Swiss train drivers were very helpful and I am extremely grateful to them for helping to capture such wonderful videos. Best Wishes .... Tim.
Besides the Aareschlucht Ost station, which is towards the Innertkirchen end of the tunnel, the cavities on the left towards Meiringen were part of an underground military HQ built during WW2, in case Switzerland was invaded. The staff lived on a rake of coaches parked in the tunnel (I presume the line was closed). If you walk on the path through the gorge, you get to see the remains of another entrance to the complex, and an explanatory sign.
You prolly dont care but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I love any help you can give me
Everything is so clean and in place with NO graffiti! By the way, how is it that the ride is so quiet even though it's steel wheels against steel rails? I wish I was younger and had the money to visit Switzerland and surrounding countries but these videos are the next best thing, thank you.
Hi Mike, the Swiss love their country, it really shows in the way the look after it. The tracks and trains are in good condition, that helps to keep the noise down. It's a pity you aren't able to visit, fortunately there are a lot of videos on RUclips that give a good impression of what it is like to travel by train through Central European countries.

@@Timsvideochannel1 I'm glad too. I have already referenced your video at (I'm not sure if this will work, but here goes...) Day 54: Meiringen with “Sherlock Holmes Falls” and More On this day we will back track (literally) back down into the valley to the town of Meiringen. Possibly we could have found cheaper lodging there, but it would not have been up in the fine air of the mountain pass. Our trip can be seen between 07:47 and 10:11 at this site. ruclips.net/video/VPyFUnMhSGw/видео.html From Meiringen I am quite sure that I walked to Reichenbach Falls. It was not all that far. That is the falls where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had Sherlock Holmes fall to his death (later to revive him). The way to see the falls is by a short tram. When I was there, however, the place was empty and I was not sure how long I would have to wait, so I decided to hike. That was a mistake. There was no obvious, marked trail, and I was literally on goat trails when not bushwacking through brush. I could hear the falls, but when I tried to get near it where there was no fenced off area, I realized that that was actually too dangerous. Now, though, we can see it virtually at ruclips.net/video/PwIor9ufmTU/видео.html. Meiringen has another attraction (which I imagined that I had visited, though I had not. I believe I did go to its lower exit) -- the Aareschlucht “Aare Gorge”. To get to its upper entrance we can take the following train and get off at Aareschlucht Ost station. ruclips.net/video/3bzX847i5FY/видео.html. Then we will walk down through the gorge. Notice the wonderful but simple Swiss engineering. ruclips.net/video/Zx3QyJo1Rlc/видео.html. To get back to our hotel we can return on the train from Meiringen. @@mrbisse1 Hello Frank, all the links worked well. Reading this reminds me of the things I missed, I will return one day to walk through the Aare Gorge and visit the falls. I often travel as a participant in a rail tour, where I usually get a day or two free to use my Bernese rail Pass, as you can guess I try to cover as much as I can, it's not until I start researching my videos that I find the things I missed. Switzerland is a place I can visit over and over again, there is so much to see and do. Your written piece with links works well, its a nice way to show likely visitors some of the thing they can see, with a little history to add interest.
Charming little branch. They have a pretty impressive terminus, large timber station and a very impressive depot. Is that large thing under construction at 9:00 a hydro electric power station?
+AndreiTupolev Hi, the railway was originally built to aid the construction of a hydro-electric scheme and I think the construction site has something to do with an outlet from one of the power stations, this link gives a little more information ... www.grimselstrom.ch/kwoplus-en-US/stilling-basin-innertkirchen/
+Timsvideochannel1 More specifically according the German Wikipedia, the terminus at Innertkirchen is actually on the grounds of the hydro-electric plant.
+AML2000 It must have been a massive hydro-electric scheme to have warranted building a railway line, nice that the line has been retained for passenger trains.
Cool video. I absolutely adore Switzerland. Sadly I've not been since 2004 so I really must plan another trip. This branch line has the feeling of a tramway rather than heavy rail, don't you think?
Hi, Switzerland is one of my favourite places to visit, awesome scenery and all kinds of wonderful railways. I believe this line was operated with an old tram for a while, see this link for more information - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiringen%E2%80%93Innertkirchen_railway
Very few people around I noticed but blessed be your curiosity :-) Thank you for taking the time to ride, film and share your experience ! BTW, did you go on a second trip for the alternate views ?!? :-)
Hi, I didn't know this train existed. I arrived at Meiringen with an hour or so to spare, after speaking to the driver, I decided to go for a ride, I'm really glad I did, it was an unexpected and very worthwhile experience. All the views were taken on the same trip, I placed a GoPro in the front window and filmed from the side with a hand held camcorder.
What views I have seen from "Drivers View" are great, but leave much of the views unavailable with a fixed camera. What about some drivers actions and views of the consist? That embodies a cab view, in my estimation..
+Jack Kreighbaum Hi Jack, take a look at this one and let me know what you think - ruclips.net/video/GxIjoeD0rgw/видео.html - Some of the Swiss videos are uploaded as a drivers eye view and as a scenic journey.
Wikipedia: "The Meiringen-Innertkirchen railway (German: Meiringen-Innertkirchen Bahn, MIB) is a 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge railway in the Swiss canton of Bern. It covers a distance of 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) between Innertkirchen and Meiringen, where it connects with the Brünig line of the Zentralbahn railway company, which links Interlaken and Lucerne.[1] Originally built to support the development of the local hydroelectricity industry, and still owned by the Kraftwerke Oberhasli (KWO) electricity supply company, the line now serves a local transport role, as well as transporting tourists to the scenic Aare Gorge." I believe you ride vehicle was a Stadler BE4/4 as Wikipedia of the 3 types still used, only that is a direct match: www.bahnreiseberichte.de/045-Uetliberg-Bruenig/45-54Meiringen-Innertkirchen-Bahn.JPG
+Dana Mack Hello Dana, Wikipedia comes up with information again, as you read, this line was built to aid the construction of a hydro-electric scheme. The railway had been operated using an old Bern tram, before they received the train in which I travelled, you might want to take a look at the gorge next to the long tunnel ..... ruclips.net/video/l4J9WN7v8es/видео.html ...... to think, I had no idea what was round the corner until the driver suggested I take a ride on his train.
The rails have been left there ready to replace the existing rails that are worn to the point where they need to be replaced. I listened to some of your music videos, there is some good stuff there.
Good video! Might I suggest though, that your alternate views could've been inserted on a PiP(Picture-in-Picture) track when editing, set them into one corner of the video, not quite 1 quarter of screen width. Synchronising by using video and/or audio cues.
Hi Neil, I'm glad you liked the video. I tried PIP a couple of times and wasn't too sure about the results, maybe its time for me to have another go. Thanks for taking time to comment. Tim.
+Cheers Tim! I enjoy those "driver's eye" train trip vids. I suggested PiP 'cause you had some shots in this video that would work well(you were obviously using a second camera) with the shots you took with your main camera. Might I ask what editing software you use? For my work I mainly use Cyberlink Power Director 14 Ultra.
Hi, I use Pinnacle Studio Ultimate version 20. Its pretty good although I can only edit around 10 minutes finished video at a time in 4K because it is very resource hungry and taxes my computer too much. I join the segments into one when I am happy with the result. There are all kinds of PIP options in Studio and I really should give it another go. One of the problems is that more than 60% of the videos I make are watched on mobile phones and I am concerned that PIP might make the picture too small. I have tried Cyberlink Power Director 14 Ultra and to be honest it is very similar to the package I am using, they both preform pretty well, I just need the next generation computer to deal with 4K.
+Tim, As well as Power Director 14 Ultra(and the earlier PD8 Ultra) I have Pinnacle Studio 18. I've found Studio 18 to be somewhat cumbersome and it took a while to get my head around how to use it. My biggest disappointment with Studio 18 is that it can't/won't allow the use of PNG transparencies. I often design my own title graphics and save them as PNG transparencies. For PD14 Ultra, no problem! The transparent(alpha) area works as it should. However on Pinnacle Studio 18 the alpha area stays black and blots out the image behind it..... not good at all! As for watching video on a mobile phone, Nah! Screen's way too small to get any enjoyment out of the video, not to mention the crappy sound coming out of the tiny speaker, but even using headphones, the small screen ruins it! Give me a good-size computer monitor any day! Cheers!
Pinnacle is like many programs, it takes a while to learn, but after that it's pretty good. The problem you describe with .png transparencies is one I also suffered from in Pinnacle 17, but not in Avid Studio. It cropped up again in version 20, which was almost unusable when it was first released, until an update solved almost all the issues I was having. I have no problems with HD video, but I limit the length of the video I am creating to around 10 minutes if I am working in 4K, it's no problem then to just import the shorter segments and create the finished article. I don't normally watch video on my phone, but according to You Tube more than half of all views are on a tablet or mobile phone, so it is in my interest to watch my own videos from time to time on a mobile phone to check that everything is legible, as a result I have increased the size of the text I use. Take care. Tim.
Its best to alight in the tunnel and then walk through the gorge in the Meiringen direction and pick up the train at the other Aareschluct station, and back to Meiringen.
I did not know about the gorge or the tunnel station until I returned home. After watching a video on another You Tube channel showing both the station and gorge I realised what I had missed. It would be nice to return one day to see the gorge and it's unique station.
In Switzerland, the narrow gauge trains are used in the same way as mainline trains, even more remarkable considering parts of the network use the rack system to negotiate the more severe inclines.

The Swiss don't have problems with people walking through tunnels, the driver would be warned in advance if there were any maintenance workers in the tunnel.
This line may change drastically by 2025 if the proposal to build the Grimselbahn - which would link Meiringen to Oberwald (on the MGB Disentis - Zermatt line) via an upgraded MIB and a new tunnel, permitting through running between Interlaken Ost and Zermatt/Chur/St. Moritz - is built. In February this year, Cantons Bern and Valais public-ally backed the scheme. Now a decision is awaited on funding by the Swiss Federal Government, but if the scheme comes to pass, Glacier Expresses may be running on this line in the next decade.......!
Oh I would love that! To have the Brünig line directly linked to the RhB would be fantastic. Not only would it be a link between Interlaken and Zermatt/Chur/St. Moritz, but it would connect Lucerne as well. And my favourite places on earth are Lucerne, Meiringen and Bergün (on the Albula line).

Stay safe. Tim.

I loved it! Everything I could see and experience was just great. Seeing how the crossing gates block the whole road (sorely needed in the US) to how clean the surrounds are kept and the mountains was a fantastic eyeful. But the one unnerving thing thing though was the man appearing out of nowhere at 13:48. 😬 **
Thank you for leaving in the long tunnel on the return trip.
Or was it?

Just amazed by the power of your observation, loved the way you described everything.

@@Timsvideochannel1 I'm glad too. I have already referenced your video at (I'm not sure if this will work, but here goes...) Day 54: Meiringen with “Sherlock Holmes Falls” and More
On this day we will back track (literally) back down into the valley to the town of Meiringen. Possibly we could have found cheaper lodging there, but it would not have been up in the fine air of the mountain pass. Our trip can be seen between 07:47 and 10:11 at this site. ruclips.net/video/VPyFUnMhSGw/видео.html
From Meiringen I am quite sure that I walked to Reichenbach Falls.

Charming little branch. They have a pretty impressive terminus, large timber station and a very impressive depot. Is that large thing under construction at 9:00 a hydro electric power station?
+AndreiTupolev
Hi, the railway was originally built to aid the construction of a hydro-electric scheme and I think the construction site has something to do with an outlet from one of the power stations, this link gives a little more information ... www.grimselstrom.ch/kwoplus-en-US/stilling-basin-innertkirchen/
+Timsvideochannel1 More specifically according the German Wikipedia, the terminus at Innertkirchen is actually on the grounds of the hydro-electric plant.
+AML2000
It must have been a massive hydro-electric scheme to have warranted building a railway line, nice that the line has been retained for passenger trains.
Would love to know how you had a front facing seat going both directions. Did the engine turn around or what?
It was a single carriage with a driving compartment at both ends.
Cool video. I absolutely adore Switzerland. Sadly I've not been since 2004 so I really must plan another trip. This branch line has the feeling of a tramway rather than heavy rail, don't you think?

Hello Zahid, I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride. Greetings from England.
Wikipedia: "The Meiringen-Innertkirchen railway (German: Meiringen-Innertkirchen Bahn, MIB) is a 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge railway in the Swiss canton of Bern. It covers a distance of 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) between Innertkirchen and Meiringen, where it connects with the Brünig line of the Zentralbahn railway company, which links Interlaken and Lucerne.[1]
Originally built to support the development of the local hydroelectricity industry, and still owned by the Kraftwerke Oberhasli (KWO) electricity supply company, the line now serves a local transport role, as well as transporting tourists to the scenic Aare Gorge."
I believe you ride vehicle was a Stadler BE4/4 as Wikipedia of the 3 types still used, only that is a direct match: www.bahnreiseberichte.de/045-Uetliberg-Bruenig/45-54Meiringen-Innertkirchen-Bahn.JPG

Hello Dana, Wikipedia comes up with information again, as you read, this line was built to aid the construction of a hydro-electric scheme.

Este tren es inusual, porque los pasajeros pueden sentarse con el conductor.
Hey man would I be able to use some of the vid for one of my backgrounds? :)
can someone tell me why there are rails inside the rails?
Take care. Tim.
Great video: Train didn't stop at the tunnel station?
Thank you, I think the train only stops at the tunnel station by request.
Beautiful journey but lighting are not in tunnels
Hi, glad you enjoyed the ride. The tunnels were just too dark to film.
excelente viagem !

Obrigado.
switzerland is the only country i have ever seen where narrow gauge railways llok like mainline standard gauge railways
In Switzerland, the narrow gauge trains are used in the same way as mainline trains, even more remarkable considering parts of the network use the rack system to negotiate the more severe inclines.
Yes, those grades are phenomenal!
no horn before and after the tunnel
The Swiss don't have problems with people walking through tunnels, the driver would be warned in advance if there were any maintenance workers in the tunnel.
Which month?
The tunnel is how much big😱
The Kirchetunnel is 1,502-metre (4,928 ft) long - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiringen%E2%80%93Innertkirchen_Railway

Someday for sure
I hope you get there, don't forget the canyon walk and awesome cable car ride.
looks like well designed diorama.
Most of Switzerland looks like a full size model railway, I love it.
@@Timsvideochannel1 absolutely no wonder.
Is that metre gauge?
"Yes" it is - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiringen%E2%80%93Innertkirchen_Railway
and run like them too!

Thanks for this information, it could be a very interesting development.
👌👍 from India
Thank you and best wishes from the UK.
that poor driver . . . would be nice to have something to look at !!! lol
It's a tough job, someone has to do it :-)
İnsan görmek mümkün değil. Okadar yol aldık canlı birşey görmedim.
