This is the first explaination that makes sense. It would also explain the way she wrote certain aspects of the elves scociety. It would also explain why elves are supposedly immortal but the oldest ones they talk about are less than 5000 years old.
YES I WAS SO CONFUSED BY THE TIME ZONES THING WHEN I FIRST REALIZED IT! I also am VERY confused by the weather aspect of places all over the world. Whenever Sophie or anyone travels from one place to another (in a different continent), not only is the time of day/night the same, but the weather is too. Like, wouldn't it be WAYYY hotter in norther Africa than it is in California? Makes me wonder if there IS something that the Elf's use that links weather/time together...

about the time zones, i remember when sophie leaps to london in legacy, she sees the clock and realizes that it’s 11:00pm, which is the same time as it was in havenfeild and she mentions that it’s something to think about. so i guess maybe shannon realized that she made this time zone mistake and is prepping for it to be explained in the next book or so? my theory is that cuz all properties are like covered by illusions, luzia and everyone that made them might have also changed the inside of the illusion by having the sun in the same place in every single elvin city/property. something like that could explain it and maybe they just tethered it so be the same time as london? idk something i’ve been thinking about

also adding on to the last theory about plants, maybe it's just because the books are more focusing on sophie's pov? she's probably the only elf to every have eaten meat because she grew up with the humans, so she is just relating the tastes of the plants to the human food she's eaten before, such as pizza and cheesburgers. elves have never eaten meat so they would not know what it tastes like, and what tastes like pizza to sophie would seem like a separate food to them? not sure if that makes sense, just a thought!

Yeah I noticed similar stuff like that too. I’m not even completely sure what level the character’s currently r lol. And wouldn’t Sophie and Keefe have only about 1 year difference because Keefe is ahead a year and Sophie was counting her age behind a year and they said in the book that Sophie could have started from level 3.
One thing that I never understood were the spy balls. Like why cant Sophie see Keefe through them? and I know theres the whole "she cant see anyone without a registry pendant" thing which I guess makes sense but then wouldnt that mean that Amy and her family would have to have registry pendants too? I think that really talented flashers, (like Luiza Vacker) and Psionipaths are able to control the way the sun comes down onto the earth? So maybe the time zones are different for the humans, but that there’s an invisible force field around a specific Elvin place like Foxfire and that the flashers can control the rays of the sun to come down at a specific time every day so that all the Elvin cities are at the same time zone? Are there seasons? The weather never changes. I know the gnomes helps plant grow, but if it never rains how do the plants grow. How can elves have so much land and not have cut down a single tree. Like you would have to live on fields not to do this.
For the foxfire mentors one, the mentors have more than one student each year. When they announce that Lady Cadence will become master cadence and take over the silver tower, they say that she will keep her sole prodigy. The fact that they had to define that probably means that it's abnormal to only have one prodigy to teach. I mean, if all of the mentors only had one prodigy, what do they do in their free time? So basically, each class session has one prodigy, but they don't have one per semester. SPOILERS AHEAD In stellarlune, shannon makes a point that all of the the lost cities are on the same timezone.

Imagine waking up at 7am to get to school and then u get there and it’s like 1 am. But tbh I think school at night time would be so fun and cool. Also even if most of the mums jobs aren’t mentioned there r still many female elves who have jobs like livvy, the female councillors, Alina (when she was principal), the female mentors, and even Juline cause she’s in the black swan collective. Im sure there r other female elves with jobs that I’ve missed but u get the point.
The thing with the elves not letting any animals go extinct is that humans have hunted many animals to extinct and they aren’t mentioned. Things like the Tasmanian tiger or the dodo bird are extinct.
I think it’s implied they preserve animals like the dodo bird in the sanctuary, because if they have wooly mammoths and dinosaurs then they probably have a Tasmanian tiger and a dodo bird

I think that counts as a job enough. della I don't know if this is true but didn't she work as an emissary? and at this point in the series (anything past when Sophie and her friends ran away with the black swan) she does work on side stuff with the black swan. Juline, I'm not gonna lie id be kinda mad if she did have a job like the triplets are a 24/7/365 job she doesn't need anything more.

For Juline, they wouldn't be able to balance a career between taking care of the triplets AND being a secret (not-so-secret-now) member of the Black Swan. Same for Gisela. For the one about dinosaurs, couldn't the ancients pass the responsibility down to generations? For the one about Foxfire, I think the author only mentioned Foxfire and Exilium because the books are in Sophie's POV, and the main action happens in these 2 schools. For the mentor one, I think it's already mentioned that one mentor can teach different students at different times, I mean, if they didn't have that, wouldn't they all have the same schedule? Otherwise, I agree with everything else. Another plot hole would be HOW DOES DEX KNOW ENGLISH???? and also HOW DO ELVES HAVE DIFFERENT RACE AND DIVERSITY IF THEY VIEW THEMSELVES AS "ONE SPECIES"???
In book 1, Dex says being a Froster is a completely useless ability… but his mom is one. 😂 Also, in book 1, Tiergan’s behavior is completely inconsistent with the fact that he is part of the Black Swan. He tells Sophie that he begged Prentice not to be affiliated with them, but that wouldn’t make any sense considering he was on the Collective and was involved in Project Moonlark just as much, if not more, than Prentice was. You bring up good points on the female elves’ jobs. I think they have the same jobs as their husbands for the most part, except for Juline, who is a stay-at-home mom as well as being a member of the Black Swan. I always thought it strange that the elves conform to the same gender roles as humans even though they live in separate societies where different norms should exist. As for the time zones, I’ve never really thought about that before! That is a huge inconsistency though.

Ok, I haven't seen anyone talking about this one, so I'll share. It's about Lady Galvin, Sophie's Level Two Alchemy mentor. Marcella says that Galvin had no choice but to take the job as a Mentor, no matter how much she hated it, because it was "this or nothing else", implying that she doesn't have an ability. Mentors are part of the nobility, so why is so much attention being focused on Timkin if someone has already done it?

I think this might be an unpopular opinion. But *my* personal opinion is that most if not all of these plot holes aren’t that.. “important” in a sense. The elvin world is huge and I can’t imagine how long it probably took Shannon(and possibly some friends?) to come up with everything. I’m sure that there are plenty of plot holes, but as long as they don’t effect the actual story(ex. If they never explained what would happen to Sophie’s parents when she was going to the elvin world, it would’ve created a huge plot hole that could become ACTUALLY problematic) it isn’t that big of a deal. Point it, expecting every little thing to be covered in the books is pointless. Also considering the books are written as third person-limited, meaning that we only know as much as Sophie does-who, mind you, is still learning abt the elvin world-, she may not be wondering abt certain plot holes ppl have found with everything that goes on in her life. For the foxfire and exilum, no clued if that is spelled right, it mentions in book 6 or 7 I think( I don’t really remember) that foxfire was very hard to get into and if you didn’t you would have to go to a different school, it’s not exact but it’s where she was hinting at!

In the beginning of exile, when Sophie, Fitz, Keefe, and Biana were playing base quest and Sophie falls and teleports or “blinks”, keefe said that “Sophie just flew” but she really just free failed.
Another plot hole is that it never rains in the lost cities! And if the residences are all spread out around the globe, wouldn’t there be different seasons, weather and temperatures in different places? And if the Keefe’s home is in Australia, wouldn’t the season be the opposite to the season at Havenfield since it’s on the Southern side of the globe?
By the way, for the dinosaur one- elves long ago probably were like humans and died to dinosaurs and just weren’t given Wanderlings. Maybe they evolved faster but still, they would have had deaths trying to figure out how to rehabilitate those animals. Then by the time they actually figured it out the original way to do it was only in books. Then out of the few hundreds who have Wanderlings many were definitely from the group trying to copy the textbook methods. By the time they FINALLY figured out how to give them a vegetarian diet it’s taken years and generations.
Ngl, idk how they could’ve done that for like millions of years but idk maybe they got different dinosaurs and thought they were the same and that stalled progress? 😅

Not exactly a plot hole since it doesn't have to do with the plot, but: Hair dye. For humans, it's fairly common. And for elves, it's much easier to dye your hair. You just take an elixir, and poof. And yet we never really see an elf with dyed hair. It's more of a missed opportunity than anything, really.

I think that really talented flashers, (like Luiza Vacker) and Psionipaths are able to control the way the sun comes down onto the earth? So maybe the time zones are different for the humans, but that there’s an invisible force field around a specific Elvin place like Foxfire and that the flashers can control the rays of the sun to come down at a specific time every day so that all the Elvin cities are at the same time zone? Idk just a thought I had when you said that. Anyway, I love this type of video, and I’d really like to see more like this in the future!

For the foxfire mentors one, the mentors have more than one student each year. When they announce that Lady Cadence will become master cadence and take over the silver tower, they say that she will keep her sole prodigy. The fact that they had to define that probably means that it's abnormal to only have one prodigy to teach. I mean, if all of the mentors only had one prodigy, what do they do in their free time? So basically, each class session has one prodigy, but they don't have one per semester.

Imagine waking up at 7am to get to school and then u get there and it’s like 1 am. But tbh I think school at night time would be so fun and cool. Also even if most of the mums jobs aren’t mentioned there r still many female elves who have jobs like livvy, the female councillors, Alina (when she was principal), the female mentors, and even Juline cause she’s in the black swan collective. Im sure there r other female elves with jobs that I’ve missed but u get the point.

The thing with the elves not letting any animals go extinct is that humans have hunted many animals to extinct and they aren’t mentioned. Things like the Tasmanian tiger or the dodo bird are extinct.
I think it’s implied they preserve animals like the dodo bird in the sanctuary, because if they have wooly mammoths and dinosaurs then they probably have a Tasmanian tiger and a dodo bird
(in my opinion) Jobs: Lady Gisela, isn't this girl's job idk- hiding the fact she is working with the never seen, trying to kill her own son's friends and him. I think that counts as a job enough. della I don't know if this is true but didn't she work as an emissary? and at this point in the series (anything past when Sophie and her friends ran away with the black swan) she does work on side stuff with the black swan. Juline, I'm not gonna lie id be kinda mad if she did have a job like the triplets are a 24/7/365 job she doesn't need anything more.
another thing that didn't make sense to me was how they were sooo crazy about silveny having kids. like ultimately that would still be the last line without inbreeding them so it wouldnt really matter WHEN she had them in my opinion bc time wasnt rlly of the essence *as much*

That is not genetically varied and does not give Talentless’s children the highest chance to get a special ability!! It is just so infuriating and unfair how the elvin world is corrupted like this!
i thought that when sophie took that astronomy class with sir astin (aka mr forkle) it was with a class. same with her class with lady galvin in the first book, i thought there was a lot of kids in that class.

For the one about why twins are bad. I think it’s kinda like how skin color was treated in America like african america people were hated on for skin color but that literally makes no logical sense whatsoever. Same thing with twins it dosent make any logical sense but any species is going to have flaws so i just think it’s part of the elves flawed reasoning. That’s why Sophie is great for the elvin world because she is able to see those flaws while others may be more blind to them.

Della is an emissary for moms not having jobs, and Edaline takes care of the animals, and also, in her registry, it said she USED to take noble assignments before Jolie died. For Juline, they wouldn't be able to balance a career between taking care of the triplets AND being a secret (not-so-secret-now) member of the Black Swan. Same for Gisela. For the one about dinosaurs, couldn't the ancients pass the responsibility down to generations? For the one about Foxfire, I think the author only mentioned Foxfire and Exilium because the books are in Sophie's POV, and the main action happens in these 2 schools. For the mentor one, I think it's already mentioned that one mentor can teach different students at different times, I mean, if they didn't have that, wouldn't they all have the same schedule? Otherwise, I agree with everything else. Another plot hole would be HOW DOES DEX KNOW ENGLISH???? and also HOW DO ELVES HAVE DIFFERENT RACE AND DIVERSITY IF THEY VIEW THEMSELVES AS "ONE SPECIES"???

Also, in book 1, Tiergan’s behavior is completely inconsistent with the fact that he is part of the Black Swan. He tells Sophie that he begged Prentice not to be affiliated with them, but that wouldn’t make any sense considering he was on the Collective and was involved in Project Moonlark just as much, if not more, than Prentice was.
You bring up good points on the female elves’ jobs. I think they have the same jobs as their husbands for the most part, except for Juline, who is a stay-at-home mom as well as being a member of the Black Swan. I always thought it strange that the elves conform to the same gender roles as humans even though they live in separate societies where different norms should exist.
As for the time zones, I’ve never really thought about that before! That is a huge inconsistency though.

Ok, I haven't seen anyone talking about this one, so I'll share. It's about Lady Galvin, Sophie's Level Two Alchemy mentor. Marcella says that Galvin had no choice but to take the job as a Mentor, no matter how much she hated it, because it was "this or nothing else", implying that she doesn't have an ability. Mentors are part of the nobility, so why is so much attention being focused on Timkin if someone has already done it?

I think this might be an unpopular opinion. But *my* personal opinion is that most if not all of these plot holes aren’t that.. “important” in a sense. The elvin world is huge and I can’t imagine how long it probably took Shannon(and possibly some friends?) to come up with everything. I’m sure that there are plenty of plot holes, but as long as they don’t effect the actual story(ex. If they never explained what would happen to Sophie’s parents when she was going to the elvin world, it would’ve created a huge plot hole that could become ACTUALLY problematic) it isn’t that big of a deal. Point it, expecting every little thing to be covered in the books is pointless. Also considering the books are written as third person-limited, meaning that we only know as much as Sophie does-who, mind you, is still learning abt the elvin world-, she may not be wondering abt certain plot holes ppl have found with everything that goes on in her life.

For the foxfire and exilum, no clued if that is spelled right, it mentions in book 6 or 7 I think( I don’t really remember) that foxfire was very hard to get into and if you didn’t you would have to go to a different school, it’s not exact but it’s where she was hinting at!

By the way, for the dinosaur one- elves long ago probably were like humans and died to dinosaurs and just weren’t given Wanderlings. Maybe they evolved faster but still, they would have had deaths trying to figure out how to rehabilitate those animals. Then by the time they actually figured it out the original way to do it was only in books. Then out of the few hundreds who have Wanderlings many were definitely from the group trying to copy the textbook methods. By the time they FINALLY figured out how to give them a vegetarian diet it’s taken years and generations.
Ngl, idk how they could’ve done that for like millions of years but idk maybe they got different dinosaurs and thought they were the same and that stalled progress? 😅

Not exactly a plot hole since it doesn't have to do with the plot, but:
Hair dye. For humans, it's fairly common. And for elves, it's much easier to dye your hair. You just take an elixir, and poof. And yet we never really see an elf with dyed hair. It's more of a missed opportunity than anything, really.
