Machakos University students riot over lack of HELB funds

Learning activities at Machakos University were disrupted Thursday morning after students staged protests to demand the immediate release of funds from the government. A heavy contingent of police officers was deployed at the learning institution to disperse the students who engaged them in running battles. The students told of their suffering similar to that of thousands of vulnerable first-year students who are yet to receive scholarships and loans from the government under the new funding model, two months since they reported to the institutions of higher learning
