  • I LOVE the story of Hades and Persephone! And, while this series isn't really all that faithful to the original story, Gods' School has been such a treat to watch! If you like Greek mythology and cheesy high school webshows, then I would highly recommend this series! I hope you enjoy this video!

      Oh, my gosh! I can't believe you actually saw my video! That's amazing! I am so honored that you liked my video! I hope you don't mind that I used footage from you series to make this. I just wanted to show my love for the series and the myths behind them.
      I had actually hoped to make a video for Aphrodite and Hephaestus, but there wasn't enough footage of the two to work with. I know that in the actual myths you're not exactly a "happy couple", but the way you depict them in the series is so precious! I really love romances like the one we're seeing for them so far! It's just so cute and wholesome, my favorite kind of romance!

    • @Midnight3Wonder
      @Midnight3Wonder  2 года назад +50

      Yea, I admit that the series is FAR from faithful to the actual mythology. However, that doesn't mean that it's a terrible thing. After all, we all still love and adore Disney's Hercules and that is far from accurate to the actual story of Hercules. One thing, however, that Gods' School does actually show great respect to the original mythology of the Greek Gods is how Hades is actually quite a decent and caring guy who loves his wife and is fair to others. Just because she's the god of the Underworld doesn't make him Satan or anything like that.
      First, Satan is the ruler of Hell, where all the bad guys go when they die. The Underwold is where all souls go when they die, regardless if they were bad or not. We just happen to know more about the punishments evil souls must endure depending on their sins. I honestly haven't heard a word about good people being punished in any way in the Underworld. By all accounts, the Underworld seems more like a camp/prison for souls that can and will punish you after death depending on how good or bad you were and Hades is more like a warden who looks after his charges. Heck, he's even willing to give souls a second chance at life if they convince him and pass a test to prove their worth to live again! He's not even the god of death like so many seem to believe him to be. That's actually an entirely different god: Thanatos! Hades honestly is a genuinely sweet guy who does his job, is fair, loves his wife, and is willing to give people a second chance if they prove themselves worthy. The guy is even so much of a dork that he literally named his three-headed dog Spot, as Cerberus literally translates to "spotted"! The only people Hades has ever actually screwed over with his divine powers were actually deserving of it (they planned to kidnap and force a marriage on his wife). True, Hades did kidnap his wife to marry her, but that was oddly enough the more common form of proposal in that culture in that age and was actually permitted by Zeus, Persephone's father! The kidnapping was arranged because Zeus knew Demeter (Persephone's mother) wouldn't approve of the marriage and so told Hades to kidnap Persephone instead of seeking approval from Demeter. So, again, Hades didn't actually do anything wrong. His only actual wrongdoing was giving Persephone a fruit that would forever bind her to the Underworld so she had to spend half the year between him and her overbearing mother.
      By all accounts, Hades is probably the nicest and most moral god of the Greek gods. He's a genuinely nice guy who people can rely on and take care of things while the other Greek gods are screwing with mortals (literally and figuratively). I actually breaks my heart that, of all the Greek gods, Hades is the one who is always portrayed as the great evil among the Greek gods when he's actually one of if not the only Greek god who isn't a total jerk. I'm honestly grateful for Gods' School's portrayal of Hades and it's honestly one the closest depictions we have of him from the original mythology. Can we PLEASE get more love for the true Hades!?!?!

      Well, this is actually a lot more accurate than most versions. Believe it or not, but Hades is actually one of the most decent of the Greek Gods you could ever meet. He's fair, follows the rules, treats others with respect, doesn't abuse his power, has the healthiest relationship with his wife, and only ever screws people over when they rightfully deserve it. A lot of people seem to assume that Hades is Satan ruling Hell. Nope. The Underworld is where ALL souls go, not just the evil ones. From what I can tell, really only the evil souls get punished while the good ones kinda just hang around or something. Hades is more like a prison warden who punishes the departed evils of the world and gives fair treatment to those who don't stir up trouble. He'll even gives souls who prove themselves worthy a second chance at life. All in all, Hades is a great guy who does his job and loves his wife.

      Surprisingly, they are one of if not the most stable of functional couple of Greek mythology. Once you learn their actual story, you realize that they are pretty much the only healthy couple of the Olympian Gods.
      I think the big reason why Hades and Persephone are often portrayed as being an unhealthy and toxic relationship is that Hades himself is often misrepresented as a villain and evil god. People tend to think Satan when they hear that Hades is the God of the Underworld. The Underworld ISN'T Hell. Heck, despite popular belief, Hades isn't even the God of Death. Thanatos is. And, in Greek mythology, the Underworld is where EVERYONE goes when they die, whether they were good or bad. Hades is more like a prison warden who watches over souls and fairly punishes those who cruel in life. Truth is, Hades is actually that one of the nicest and honest Olympian God. He loves his wife, does his job as justly as he can, and is even willing to give those he deems worthy a second chance at life if they prove themselves to him. He'll even give them fair tests and warnings to make it out of the Underworld alive to live again. It's just unfortunate for him that most people immediately don't trust him when they really should. Hades has pretty much screwed over two people, and they rightfully deserved it.

    • @Midnight3Wonder
      @Midnight3Wonder  Год назад +1

      @@jackphillips3354 Uh, I'm 27 and I still love The Little Mermaid. It's more than just a story of girl ditches everything to be with a guy. That's just Ursula's simplification to tempt Ariel into making a contract with her. Ariel has clearly dreamed of being part of the human world long before she ever met Eric. She's collected artifacts from the surface from the remains of sunken ships, she's so curious about what life is like above the sea, she doesn't feel like she belongs in the society she was born in, and so much other signs you'll notice if you pay close enough attention to. She's clearly wanted to be part of the human world for a long time. Yes, it's never specified how long she's wanted this, but the size of her collection does imply that it's been on her mind for a long time. I mean, come on! She even sings a song literally called "Part of THAT World" before she ever meets Eric. She's clearly wanted this long before Eric came into her life. Even when she meets and falls in love with Eric, she's still only dreaming of the surface than having any actual plans to pursue her dream. It's only AFTER her father destroys her collection that she truly starts thinking of leaving her home behind because it's clear to her that she'll never truly be accepted as she is there. Yes, Ursula does focus more on Ariel's desire to be with Eric when they make their deal, but I feel as through Eric was more just the breaking point of her making her choice. Even after she gets her legs and finds Eric again, she not only tries to convey her love to him, but is also clearly fascinated by the world she's only dreamed of seeing before. You see this in both the film and the musical. Heck, the musical even has a song that has plenty of moments of her explaining her excitement to finally see the human world. There's really only one part of the song where she talks about her love for Eric, and it's quickly overcome by her joy of everything else around her.
      I'm sorry for the long explanation, but I'm just SO TIRED of people demoralizing this film I love by claiming it's a story of a teenage girl making a dumb decision because of a guy she jet met. It's so much more than that and and people would see that if they only looked a bit closer at the story. It's the story of a young woman longing for a better life where she feels she belongs. She just happens to fall in love along the way. It's only because of Ursula the the deal Ariel makes with her that there is so much emphasis on Ariel's romance with Eric. He may be serving as the key to Ariel's dreams, but he isn't all that there is to her dream.
      There's also a queer undertone to the story. Both the writer of the original story and a member of the cast of the film were queer. There's a strong theory among fans of the film that there's a queer message hidden in the story. Ariel's transformation and how she lights up when she realizes that her body has changed in a way where she can finally fulfill her dreams is often viewed as an allegory for being transgender. No, Ariel herself is NOT transgender, but we do see a similar situation of her going from mermaid to human. Before, she was trapped in a body that limited her to a world she did not feel she belonged in. It's only after she becomes human that she able to happily enjoy the life she's dreamed of having and is able to enjoy herself to the fullest. There's even a moment at the end of the film when Triton, the one most against Ariel leaving to fulfill her dreams, comes to accept his daughter the way she is and grants her his blessing to be true to herself. It's very reflective of a parent who once couldn't stand the thought of their child being queer coming to terms with who their child is and realizing that they care more about their child's happiness than their own outdated expectations. I myself am queer and have some issues with my body that make me feel like I'm a stranger in my own body. I won't go into details about my situation, but I can really empathize with Ariel's situation of wanting to change something about herself so that she can finally feel true to herself and be happy. It's a really beautiful and inspiring story.
      In all honesty, Eric might be the key to Ariel's dreams according to Ursula's plans, but he isn't all she dreams about. Ariel has always wanted to be part of the human world. Regardless if she ever met him or not, I feel like she would eventually reach a breaking point of wanting to join the human world. It would just be a matter of her father finding out. In the end of it all, Ariel's romance with Eric was more of a bonus that served as her breaking point in Ariel's dreams. She defiantly loves him and he loves her, but there's so much more to their stories than their love for each other. So, please, stop thinking of The Little Mermaid as a story of a girl who gives up everything for a man she just met because that is so far from the truth. There's a lot more I could say, but I feel like I've gone on long enough. I might as well make an entire video about all the stuff hidden in this movie that proves isn't so much more than what so many like to limit it to. Don't know if I'll ever actually do it, but I know that I'm not the only one who understands the film on such a deep level. I'm sure if you looked around, you can find others who also share in my thoughts on the film and will go into detail about the stuff I didn't touch on.

    He did kidnap Persephone. But you spend a literal eternity in a cave deep under the earth, and see what you’d do.

      Considering this was Ancient Greece and at least half, if not most, proposals were kidnapping the bride they desired, Hades didn't really do anything wrong in terms of what was "acceptable" back then. Though, in actuality, Hades didn't take Persephone as his bride without consent. As it turns out, he did actually ask Zeus, the father of Persephone, for her hand in marriage and Zeus gave his blessing for the marriage. Heck, Zeus was the one who told Hades to kidnap Persephone because everyone knew Demeter, Persephone's mother, would not approve of the marriage even though Hades was honestly the best husband Persephone could ask for. In all honesty, if ANYONE was to blame as the villain in their love story, it's Zeus...
      It's kinda ironic how the most level-headed and genuinely nicest Greek god gets the most hate and is so often portrayed as Satan or something when that couldn't be further from the truth. Hades may be the God of the Underworld, but he's not actually a bad dude. Despite what many believe, Hades doesn't actually seek cause people harm or do horrible things. He's not even responsible for death itself since he's not actually the god of death like so many times he's depicted as. He may rule the realm where the dead go, but he doesn't actually take charge of who dies. That's Thanatos, the actual God of Death. Hades is more like a prison warden who treats his subjects fairly, punishes those who actually deserve to be punished, and is even willing to give others a second chance at life if someone (either the dead person themselves or someone who came to save their soul) can make a compelling enough case to Hades for why they should be given another chance to live. The only thing Hades actually asks of them if they wish to leave and he gives his blessing is that they follow a test to prove their worth. It's not his fault that most people decide not to trust his word and instead make themselves believe that he's tricked them. Story of Orpheus and Eurydice, anyone? Hades has only actively screwed over barely a handful of people and they rightfully deserved it. Like that moron Pirithous who thought it'd be a great idea to kidnap Persephone, Hades' wife, so that he can marry her because he believed he deserved nothing less than the daughter of a FREAKING GOD. If you got punished by Hades himself, then you really have no one to blame but yourself and your absolute stupidity for getting on Hades' bad side.
      Yeah, in case you haven't noticed, I LOVE Greek mythology and Hades is honestly my favorite of the Greek gods. He's a loving husband who is loyal to his wife, takes care of his subjects like a good king should, gives people a second chance if they prove themselves worthy, does his job without ruining countless lives in the process, and is honestly the least despicable of the Greek gods. Seriously, how we only hate on Hades, one of the only morally descent gods, yet praise Zeus who constantly cheats on Hera with VERY unwilling flings who then punished for Zeus's antics is beyond me. I mean, I get why we try to hide the more questionable stories and traits about the gods (don't want to frighten the children), but I just can't help but wonder why Hades has to take the heat when he literally did nothing wrong yet everyone else gets a pass despite their many heinous crimes against humanity. It's just baffling to me.
