Socialism in Eastern Europe had very bad starting conditions after WW II. The war had been much more deadly and devastating in the East than in the West, not to mention the US which didn't get a single bomb dropped onto her roof. The socialist countries in Eastern Europe had suffered 90% of all the life losses and damages and they never really recovered from that. The United States were a late arriving war participant who as such eventually did the rip off in territories, scientists, engineers, academics, patents, gold and markets, and who declared only capitalism and hard work created all the wealth.

      @JayFGrissom 5 лет назад +21

mr Dead man - Socialism isn’t the answer to $900 ambulance rides. How are you trying to tie this into the conversation?
I was shot in the back in 2000. The ambulance came, took me to the hospital, and billed me for it. The $1400 bill (not $900) and the subsequent $100,000 hospital bill didn’t prevent them from taking care of me. It just left me with a bill that I worked and paid for in reasonable monthly payments for a long time.
The current system worked for me. If we were socialists indirectly YOU (and others in society) would have been forced to pay for my hospital bill. I would have benefited from this but it’s just not right to make my problems the responsibility of others to take care of.
If you think it’s right for others to take care of your problems/responsibility without being fairly compensated for it, then I’m curious what kind of world you really want to live in?

    Do you remember this?
Almost exactly sixty years ago since Russia’s Khrushchev delivered his message to the UN; prediction for America.
TV coverage of him banging his shoe on the podium. At that time, the word communism’ was feared throughout our nation. Do you remember September 29, 1959? Now here is some food for thought if it does not make us
choke! THIS WAS HIS ENTIRE QUOTE:
"Your children's children will live under communism, You Americans are so gullible. No, you won't accept communism
outright; but we will keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you will finally wake up and find you already have Communism. We will not have to fight you; We will so weaken your economy, until you will fall like overripe
fruit into our hands." "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
Remember, socialism leads to Communism. So, how do you create a Socialistic State? There are 8 levels of control; read the following recipe.
    1) Healthcare - Control healthcare and you control the people
    2) Poverty - Increase the poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them.
    3) Debt - Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.
    4) Gun Control - Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government That way you are able to create a police state.
    5) Welfare - Take control of every aspect (food, housing, income) of their lives because that will make them fully dependent on the government.
    6) Education - Take control of what people read and listen to and take control of what children learn in school.
    7) Religion - Remove the belief in God from the Government and schools because the people need to believe in ONLY the government knowing what is best for the people.
    8) Class Warfare - Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. Eliminate the middle class. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to tax the wealthy with the support of the poor
Sounds just like today's Democrat agenda!!!!

hokeypokeyalso1 I’m sorry, but what you just said is not accurate at all. Today’s Democrat’s agenda is to make America more like Scandinavian countries, not socialist. Bernie Sanders and the other left-wing representatives are more like centrist politicians by Scandinavian standards (except for Warrens’s proposal to end private healthcare, nobody wants that in Scandinavia or the complete student loan forgiveness by Bernie. Finland has a 40% forgiveness rate if graduated on time) Free education leads to a more educated, cultured society (as we can see in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany etc.) and free health care makes sure people don’t have to go bankrupt while facing an unexpected life event. In a countries like that, social mobility is also the highest in the world which represents the actual American dream, which is not as plausible here in the US anymore. Democrats by their policies have been much more successful endorsing middle class unlike the unsuccessful recent Republican leaders, (and Ronald Reagan for example with later proved wrong trickle-down-economics) which have stagnated the growth of salaries and shrunk the middle class of the US. Also I’d like to point out that there were multiple problems with the claims in the video that Scandinavian people just work harder. The main reason for Scandinavian success here in the US is the quality free education back home and healthier life style which give a huge advantage for job markets here in the US due to the decline in public education here. Also, none of the Scandinavian countries are police states, and have less gun violence than the US (surprise surprise) due to the stricter gun laws. In addition, Scandinavian countries are the least religious in the world and are doing better without it. Since the government is well-organized and people trust their government, there’s no problem with the stronger government.
I’d like to point out that I’m a non-partisan, I just like to stay in facts.

On the other the left has near total control of news media, entertainment and education so how 'free' are these people? Yet, taking away their choices "for their own good" makes us no better than the authoritarian lefties (and it wasn't that long ago that the right was acting in this very way - so we know we have to be wary of our human nature getting the best of us). I don't envy anyone who actually has to make significant decisions about this.

China is a Socialist Nation, and they want to go full on Communism.
You can't sustain Socialism, because you run out of other people's money.
How is the Government going to fund universal healthcare, universal basic income, free college, means of production and distribution being centrally planned, prices being centrally planned, there is no Religion under Socialism, all ideologies besides Socialist ideologies are seen as heresy, money printing goes out of hands (Example: Venezuela), even a hardcore Socialist country like China had to adopt a Capitalist economy and let Entrepreneurs have a bit of Free Enterprise, of course the CCP controls a 35%+ stake in every Business Entity in China, but still, they needed the Free markets in order to bring millions of Chinese out of Poverty.
And Nordic Countries are not Socialist, in fact, the free market index rates them as being more Capitalist and Free Enterprise than the United States, also, in order to fund the free healthcare and college, the Middle Class pays 40%+ taxes, while Businesses and Corporations get huge tax cuts in Nordic Countries
Are you willing to give up 40%+ of your income in order to fund Socialist Programs such as Free College, Free Healthcare, basic incomes, etc. Because you will never successfully tax the rich, the rich control the Politicians, you think the Politicians give a f*ck about you over the Lobbyists who pay them millions of dollars?
The Rich will get Politicians to pass loopholes in the tax code, and if they fail, they will just leave United States.
And once the rich leave, they take their businesses (which create the jobs) elsewhere, meaning millions of Americans will become unemployed. France tried to put in a Wealth Tax and guess what happened, the Rich left and hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs.
Socialism sounds good on paper, but it fails, because you will run out of other people's money, after which, the Government resorts to printing more and more money, which leads to massive inflation.
Social Programs can only be funded by the Middle Class, if we all decide to pitch in 40%+ of our income to taxes.
Which is again the reason why Healthcare is free in Canada, their citizens also pay higher taxes than us Americans.
If you think you can implement these Social Programs by taxing the big Corporation and the Rich people, then forget about it, it's going to fail miserably.
And I don't want to pay 40%+ taxes in order to fund these Social Programs of Free College, Free Healthcare, basic income, etc.

@@BangMaster96 I see you point. But I was taught in college that there are two forms of ownership. One is private, by an individual of a group of individual, or by society ownership, i.e. taxpayer funded. I was taught in college Socialism meant taxpayer owned. Thus our Interstate Highway's, our Social Security, our Military, our public schools are all socialist.
The true and honest disagreement is how much socialism do we want? I agree Lenin wanted to start with socialism and go to communism. But why should everyone in the world think that means anything not owned by the public is bad? I reject Lenin's argument.
China was pure Economic Communism, ( all means of production are owned by the state? from 1947 until 1977. In 1977. That's 30 years China was economically communism. With the death of Mao, China allowed it's first privately owned company in 1977. And they have increased privately owned means of production ever since which is longer than than they were pure Communist. I would call them crony capitalist with Communist Party members being the cronies. Politically they are a Dictatorship not Marx's idea of Communism. And I think all Dictatorships are bad.
I just think calling anything not owned by private individuals as Communism is too simple. In the early 1800's then New York Governor DeWitt used taxpayer money to fund the building of the Erie Canal. Many of his citizens cried they didn't want their tax money used for that. But the Erie Canal brought in riches to New York taxpayers because it was easier and cheaper to use than the dirt roads for getting both immigrants and goods. Later, Lincoln used taxpayer money to fund the building of the first railroad to the west Coast. Which made it cheaper and easier to get settlers and good to the unsettled west. Was Lincoln's goal a united America coast to coast and prosperity or was he on the road to communism?
Forgive me. I see these arguments of Socialism versus Capitalism as way too simple for the real world. I don't want everything socially owned. And for me the honest and true political argument shouldn't be over labels like Socialism or Communism. I wanted my son to have advantages I didn't have competing in business with the kids of rich men. I was at a disadvantage there and wanted to change society, mostly through tax laws and spending to give my son a better opportunity to compete with other men's son's solely on the merits of his hard work, not the deep pockets of his rich son competitors.
I gave my son advantages over what I had. But at the same time was I not giving my son advantages over even poorer men's son's? The argument over how far to go with taxes and government spending is an honest one. I just don't see it in the simple Socialist versus Capitalist labels. Be safe and good health to you.

@@sscalercourtney5486 I agree with you on the point that Capitalism, cronyism seeps in. And the only reason that happens is because Government officials, aka Politicians love to have power and influence. Our founding fathers created the 3 branches of Government for this very reason, they didn't want a single branch to have full power. But, sadly, we have diverted far away from the original vision of the Constitution. Most members of Congress are cronies, and this goes for both Democrat and Republican members.
This cronyism is what allows the Rich People and Corporations to get advantages, tax breaks, send their kids to better schools and colleges even though their kids have no merits for that, kill small businesses and competition through lowering prices or straight out buying them.
I definitely do not want this current form of Crony Capitalism we have in the US, but the solution for that is not more Government. We want limited Government, we want Politicians to stop getting in bed with Corporations and Rich Elites. We want Politicians to outlaw Lobbying, and make sure there is no Monopoly, Duopoly, or Oligopoly.
Socialism vs Capitalism arguments can get too emotional for people on both sides, because both sides have compelling arguments.
But know this, I am not calling the Social Government programs such as the Interstate Highway, Military, Police, Social Security, etc. as Communist. Free Market Capitalism doesn't say that Government can't provide these facilities, in fact, it clearly states that Government's role is to ensure the protection of the citizens through a Military, and protecting citizens from theft, breach of contracts, or any form of aggression with a Police, and by the way, the Interstate Highway system was built specifically for the US Army, so they can move into cities and across state lines easily.
Social Security I believe is a failed program, I think majority of the population would be happy if they didn't have to pay 6.2% of their income to Social Security, the funds are dry, the payments are a joke, and our kids will most likely not even get to see a penny from that program by the time they retire. More people would be happy to keep 6.2% of their income and save it themselves.
I just don't want Government to be involved in any Social Program, the only duty of Government should be to protect its citizens from foreign threats, domestic threats, and big Corporate Monopolies, Duopolies, or Oligopolies.
Do you really think that Politicians will be able to better take care of your kids?
Look at any program that Government tries to handle, and it almost always fails.
For example, US Education system is a complete mess with outdated text materials, US Healthcare system is also one of the most expensive in the world thanks to the US Government, Social Security.
I would much rather have Free Market competition in the Education and Healthcare system, allow Schools to compete for kids, and you'll see the quality of education improve drastically, competition drives down prices in a free market.

@@BangMaster96 Reality is most of us want government to do and protect what we want and not what others want. I think 306 million Americans can agree on that. Social Security is perhaps the one government handout that forces spendthrifts to save something of their own money toward retirement. And most people don't realize they get a 100% return on their money each year. It doesn't compound, but each year you get a 100% return on your investment in Social Security. Unless of course you are an employer. Still even if you are self-employed there are some advantages to Social Security. During down economic times it provides stimulus to the economy. And if you are in business you can sell to people on Social Security but you can't sell to those who spent every dime they made having a good time and who are still around contributing nothing to the economy because they are broke.
I minored in Econ and made straight A''s in American history in college. There are people who know more about both subjects than I do, I admit. But I learned that between 1880 and 1930, when America had very little of our current economic theories, we experienced a Depression on average every six years. On Average, every six years you could count on half of your net worth or more disappearing. People who lived in that Generation brought us the Federal Reserve, the Income Tax,, Social Security and the FDIC. They did not like the Austrian school of economics or the Capitalism of that day. A Banker, J.P. Morgan, used his power to try to prevent Depressions by forcing smaller banks to loan each other enough money to get over short term bad economic events. President Theodore Roosevelt hated J.P. ( the first human to have electric lights in his house that weren't an experiment) for his power over the economy. Roosevelt wanted the government to have the power to force Banks to make loans among themselves and to set interest rates. A Republican Senator and some banker friends, not wanting the government to have all that power over the money they controlled came up with a compromise known as the Federal Reserve. Since FDIC and the adoption of half of Keynes theory of economics and Social Security, we have not had a Depression, (defined as an economic drop of GNP as 25% or more in over 90 years. Social Security doesn't play the only role in this, but it does play a good role beyond how it helps the individual. Today's Americans, understandable, do not appreciate the things our Government does to provide a economy that doesn't take half your net worth on average every six years. The old saying, you don't miss your water till the well goes dry. I'm old enough to remember Ron Reagan saying in the early 1960's that Social Security was going broke in less than three decades. My 60 year old Uncle moaned he'd never see a penny of what he'd put into Social Security probably around 1962 or 1963 after listening to Reagan. Oddly enough, it was Ron Reagan himself as President who appointed Alan Greenspan to come up with a plan to that saved Social Security for nearly 50 years. It's only a matter of will. I've read of millionaires who support Social Security, not because of the money they will get, but what it does in providing a secure society without a ton of broke elderly people voting themselves welfare form any politician who promised them that in their old age. Social Security fixes that problem. Have a good evening. Oh and my 60 year old Uncle sure he wouldn't get back a dime on Social Security drew it until he died at 92. Take care.
