    I spent 3+ years full time. I had two RVs, my first was a 1998 Tioga Class C I paid 10K for. It was definitely outdated but clean. After a few years, I pulled the trigger on a brand new (2017) $150K Class C. The new rig was a nightmare! What I realized is that the older rigs were better made AND, besides things like USB ports, electronics, the technology really hadn't changed. Recently, my wife and I decided to go back on the road, part time. I had so much trouble with the new RV, that I sold it a few years ago. We went looking for an older RV a few weeks ago and found a 2005 National Seabreeze with under 30K miles and 150 generator hours. Super clean!!!! I would choose an older rig ANY time over new!

      I have heard story after story just like yours. It's ridiculous that the RV industry isn't held to a higher standard. The cool thing is that you can always add updated technology to your older coach. National Seabreeze is a nice coach. Looks like you found a good one. Thanks for watching and safe travels!

      Love your video, we just bought a 1992 Dutch Star, was told everything worked once we put 3new batteries in it. They jump started it so we could drive it home, now slide out won't open , refrigerator doesn't get power , there is a leak in the shower wall, when water is turned on, levelers won't work, and motor is overheating, I'm in tears. Oh it rained here for 3 days , now there is a a couple of leaks in the roof. We can't get get air cond to work, so I bought a portable air conditioner and riged it to one of the windows, as it's been in the 100's here, and I wanted to clean it and wash the rugs. One problem after another, oh, and someone stole the calitalic convertor the night before we went pick it up.

    Nice job you're doing with the rig. There's no question that the older rigs were built so much better than most of the stuff coming off the assembly lines now. We just purchased a 2000 Monaco Dynasty and are in the process of making it tripworthy. So far, 6 new tires, 4 new batteries, air dryer, front end alignment, dutchaire replacement fridge system. Doing all the work myself except for the alignment. $3650 in additional expenses after purchase so far. We were lucky that this unit has the 350 hp Cummins. We are also thinking about full time. It had what I didn't want...Auto park brake system, Air leveler jacks, Air pump/s, No slide out/s. All those equate to more $issues$ on the road and less time enjoying the trip. I have replaced most of the sensor/s items on the engine due to age as well as the rubber hoses. It has 454 TBI w/4L80E trans. Very reliable. Picked it up for $8,000

      The cost of big radiators with labor. First the cost to remove it, diagnos it, then we mention in video that we took care of some belts & things behind it as long as it was out. Then the cost of purchase and finally, installation. Big diesel pusher repairs on average are higher.

    Wow, interesting that this video showed up for me on RUclips. We have 2001 HR Ambassador also, but 34 footer. Such a great coach and you are right, built like a tank! Ours has 239k miles on it and behaves like it is new. We also have 300hp engine but have no problems going long uphills on cruise control. Once I was driving our car behind it and I could not keep up with my husband driving the rig. Maybe because it is shorter and one slide less? That was our biggest surprise. And it gives us 11 mpg! We are selling ours now but I have a hidden desire that it does not sell and we keep it. Moving to Puerto Rico and thinking to keep the rig for mainland travels. Not sure how to organize such a thing. Great remodel you did! Thank you for the video!

    A few things here. Hire a tech to do a P.P.I on a coach BEFORE you buy. 2nd, do research on diesel pushers, again, before you buy. 3rd, coaches DO come equipped with the same diesal engines as semis have, but most coaches have different transmission, however, some super C motor homes do have the same transmissions as semis do. Also, it's not so much about horse power when it comes to diesal engines, it's about displacement and torque. The torque is whats going to get you up hills faster over smaller diesal engines

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  Год назад +1

      We had a certified inspection done. Everything I had read regarding the Cummins 300 HP engine was that it’s a very reliable engine. I just found that for a 36 ft motorhome it was under powered. I know torque is what gets up a hill, but with more horsepower typically brings more torque. Our rig we have now has a Cat 350 and the torque is noticeably better. Both rigs had the Allison 6 speed transmission. Going up hill’s and from a stop light the get up and go is like night and day.

      It wasn’t just the radiator. We had other work done being that the radiator was out of the way.

      Full size big rig diesel truck radiator. Very labor intensive to remove and install. Definitely will come with higher expense, but hopefully evens out for long lasting.

    These larger motor homes are horrible money pits...

      They can be. And so can almost all of the newly built RVs coming off the line.

    Anyone doing 75 mph has a death wish. Your stopping distance is a lot longer, not saying anything about fuel costs at that speed. If you have to change lanes quickly 75 is dangerous enough but in a motorhome is NOT safe. I drove semi's for 42 years and I can't tell how many times I seen what looked like bad BAD wrecks with rv's period.

      I drove semi's for a while and had to take the Smith system defensive driving coarse. It really changes your driving habits. I can't believe how many people driving today have no concept of stopping distance. I keep it between 60 and 65. Not just for better mileage but for safety.

    Even though the bigger engine is only 30 more horsepower it probably has a lot more torque which is way more important than horsepower when you’re dealing with a rigp

    • @RoamingWithRosie
      @RoamingWithRosie  3 года назад

      Torque is what will get you up the hill. With more horse power comes more torque typically. Great comments -Thanks for watching!

    Great vid folks! I've lived in my 1997 Georgieboy Cruise master for 19 years and love it! "Out of the rat-race" as I say. I paid £32,500 for it in 2004 with 17,000 miles on the clock. Done 27,000 now. She's 7.5 t with a Chevy V8 6.5 litre diesel 'pusher', and pulls a 2 t loaded trailer all day long. Had to replace the fridge/freezer a couple of years ago and the water heater about 5 years ago. As you say, the interior is dated now. I'm sorely tempted to replace it with a 2000 Ambassador with one slide out. Or do I do like you......?

      Thank you. We now have a 2006 Alfa SeeYa DP. Has a much larger motor than the Ambassador did so we van get up and over mountains in the western US. She was a fancy coach in her day. But needs updating. We've just started. Hope you follow along!
