I start all my rags to riches off the grid. I have no idea why I am so obsessed with it. I think it is probably because I could NEVER do it myself lol.
@@vickyanderson2733I like doing a generational game, where the first generation is off the grid and may not generate electricity or leave their home neighbourhood or get a job, and each subsequent generation is allowed to do more and more... until they become disillusioned with modern life and return to the agricultural dream
"I wish there were stalls where we could sell produce and things" May I introduce the 3 vendor tables available in the catalogue.. not stalls, but they do the same thing. Even on a deserted island, customers will come to a yard sale :) That's the thing with the game being so bloated over time. If I didn't watch so many videos, I wouldn't know half the things available..
@@gglizzy4651 there's a separate object to sell paintings the same way. I don't remember the name offhand, but it's in city living, and it's a white vertical wall thing. I can't check because I disabled all packs indefinitely, lol
With the chicken coop, the Scatter Feed interaction only produces 4 seed piles. If you have more than four chickens, then some of them won't get any food; and doing the individual feed interaction for a chicken costs the same but only feeds one. What I tend to do is two Scatter Feed from the coop back to back - costs 8 simoleons but there's an extra seed pile or so for the next time.
Something I found out about Island Living - this challenge would be easier as a mermaid because they can sleep in any body of water which helps with their hydration need for most of the next day. Also for their social need they can talk to dolphins but I will say...do not allow them to eat fish 🐠 cause they will have the pop up saying 'feels sad over eating friends'
OTG is one of my favorite ways to play too. I normally combine it with my version of the runaway teen challenge and add in a handful of other lot challenges to make it interesting lol
Off the grid is a super wonky lot trait, it actually just means that you can't import power/water. If you've got water collectors and generators you can live in a totally normal house. On top of that, with a high enough repair skill you can install fuel cells in basically anything to make it work off the lot.
Laundry hampers are essential for not having to do your laundry daily. Also, when you've got a very big family that fills up multiple hampers rather fast, I usually do the following: Take the first hamper and click on "do laundry". Wait until your sim goes to do it, then cancel the interaction. Repeat with all your hampers. After that you should have a stack of laundry from every hamper. Place them on the ground, click on one and select "do laundry" again. Your Sim will then automatically collect all stacks. That way you only need to do laundry once, and not separately for each hamper.
I'm so glad you decided to do this video. Its inspired me to want to give this type of lifestyle a go with my own sims. Your little quirky comments make you stand out so much from other youtubers that do videos like this. These just give your videos so much uniqueness and I love it. You are one of a kind and your videos are really enjoyable!

I love your commentary on the laundry but I feel like that makes it so realistic. Or maybe I'm the only person who needs an entire day to do my laundry because it always takes forever. (especially bc I sort whites, colors, and blacks so usually am doing 3 loads in a day)
What a weird coincidence, I'm doing an all lot challenge/ isolated/ rags to riches style challenge on that same island. My setup looks quite a lot like yours! I'm also fairly new to off the grid, only did it once before, and I had to learn all this then too. Turns out it's easier than it sounds and surprisingly fun. Loved your castaway series, might have to do some redecorating, love your setup! There's a private dwelling lot trait that discourages visitors.
When you do off the grid on that specific island lot it is easy to have the city pay you each week instead of owing bills. Get a micro home lot with no walls just the foundation. Put the lot traits to geothermal, underground spring, & the original one it came with. Dig for trash before you start fishing as you will find more top dollar trash. I use Ravasheen's Filthy Fabulous - OTG & R2R Set this way you have a cardboard matt to sleep on, off grid fridge, junk table, a bucket shower, a 5 gallon bucket toilets, and I also get her plunger no fire toilet. This helps me start off. I first put up the walls then add a roof. When I add the roof I do it in two pieces. I use one side as the ECO living that generates electrical and the other side as the ECO living green water collection roof texture. These cost you nothing and when you save up you change the cardboard matt to the mattress on crates. This is a level 4 comfort/couch/bed. Save up till you have at least one roof solar power, one roof wind turbine, & one of the scraper water collection from ECO living. Then as you increase the house furniture increase the solar/wind/water up till you have at least 3. When you want to move from a micro home to a tiny home you need to add 5 solar, 4 wind, 5 water collection. Just make sure that the sinks, toilet, & shower or bath you make sure that it says keep this item off utility when you click on the item. I as well even make my bathrooms outside under the eaves of the roof so that it doesn't take up space inside the house's footprint.
To really go off grid, adding the dew collectors and then the windmills make the bills lower. Then upgrading the off grid items to run off compostables from the toilet. The bug boxes make fuel to run the items instead of electricity.
Rags to riches is my favorite way to start a household for me. I'm not really doing the rags to riches challenge. I just like starting a household on a blank lot, no money and only the clothes on their backs. Then I build my way up. I really like this video. I love your off grid set up. Although I don't care for the other lot challenges. I just like the off-grid part.
In all fairness, I think the off the grid selection in build and buy is a later addition; I think at first they just kind of had it all mushed in with everything else with no filter for it.

I think you should be able to have a stall at the jungle holiday area. Not Sulani, but maybe close enough? Also, you could shower in the waterfall and pee in the water if you want.
I agree the laundry system is way too complicated! the little wash tub takes way too long, the clothes line is temperamental and it just has too many steps I never end up using it
