    Its great that you mention when you should shift in a manual car because I'm sure there is that guy that will think redline is the "Shift Zone" lol...

    • @freedomrider266
      @freedomrider266 4 года назад +35

      It is, in a performance car on track. But, if (and I'm sure you were) implying that someone will allow it to BOUNCE off the red before shifting, I think he'll learn a lot about engine damage and replacement, so, a lot of lessons learned here....

I got a Ford Focus 2012 for really cheap and I'm trying to educate myself about manual bc it has a manual transmission driven by a computer so it's "automatic". Most people have their clutches wear quickly and many say to "drive it like a manual". I wish it was a manual manual in a way bc you kinda have to make the computer drive like a manual. It's pretty cool though and I think I get the concepts now.

      I do the same thing but they recommend we stay in gear incase shit hits the fan. What I started doing is just cruising in gear while braking until I'm closing in real close then shift to neutral but I'd definitely would like to hear his answer.

      I think it’s personal choice Ivan but thanks for your opinion also. This is the 1st modern day manual I’ve had so I’d like to get a few others opinion

      Good question let’s say before you even make a full stop , the light turns green. What do you do ? Which gear do you go to ?

    I found it very fascinating that I’ve never drove a manual, and I’ve been looking up videos on it. Not a single video has shown gear shifting at a red light. I’ve always thought before red, you shift to 1 then N. But you go from 3 to N. Is that how you come to a completely stop at a red or is downshifting the way to go (3,2,1,N).

      i go from any gear to N, i just hold clutch w brake and when it goes down to like 30 mph i go to N

      @@juniorok7760 when your car is in neutral, you dont have to keep your foot on the clutch. Thatll damage your clutch

      Old thread but since I wound up seeing it I'll post something for other people who see it... downshifting is fine but you don't need to downshift 5-4-3-2-1-N. If you're doing 60 in 5th gear you might downshift to 4th then 3rd then brake to 15-20mph and then clutch in and stop. Downshifting itself is some small amount of strain on your car it's not really worth it to go all the way down at least in a Mustang that has long gears and can be in 3rd without stalling at 15mph.
      You can also stay in neutral from 5th all the way to stop which is what I'd do if I didn't have a lot of warning that I needed to come to a total stop.
      In short, downshifting is fine, but you don't have to hit every gear on the way down, and you probably shouldn't be shifting as many times as possible and only doing it when it's high value.

    I = 0 -10mph ; II = 5 until 25 mph ; III = 15 until 45 mph ; IV 25 until 70 mph and last one V gear 35 until 98 mph ( My car max speed is 99 mph /159 km/h ) . R = 0 - 20 mph.

    With sport mode on a cvt I can’t put it in neutral for braking at lights. So I just downshift through all the gears?

    Great Video. You said something in the other one that surprised me. Can you really let the clutch out from a stop without giving any gas? I would think it would stall for sure. I feel like I start pushing on the gas when I start letting up the clutch.., so that when the clutch is engaged, you have enough gas to start moving...

      Yea when you down shift you should be rev matching not just throwing it in gear and letting the clutch pedal go
