- In the opening round of the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic, Bubba Watson carded a 4-under 68, placing him five strokes off the lead heading into Friday.

The PGA TOUR heads back to Detroit for the third edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club. The tournament was one of the first in the PGA TOUR’s return to golf in 2020 and saw Bryson DeChambeau win by three shots over Matthew Wolff. The reigning champion returns and will be hoping to find some form, as he has not recorded a top-10 finish since the Wells Fargo Championship in early May. After two months away from golf and then a T15 finish at the U.S. Open, Wolff will be looking to go a step further this year and claim his first title since 2019. Meanwhile, reigning PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson will make his tournament debut, marking his first start in Michigan since 2008. Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama will play for the third year in a row as 13 major champions, including Jason Day who held the 36-hole lead at the Travelers Championship, are set to battle it out.

Go Bubba! Golf broadcasts are so much more entertaining when he's playing well. And many of us can empathize with his various social anxieties and mental issues. I applaud Bubba for talking about them. And I celebrate his genius. Let's hope he can sustain it through 4 days.
