Shark Diving - Protea Banks, South Africa - Northern Cave- Aqua Planet Dive Centre

On the 6th of May 2023, we dove into the mesmerising world of Protea Banks with ideal diving conditions. The current was flowing at a comfortable 2.5 km/h (N-S), providing us with a thrilling drift dive experience. With visibility ranging between 20-25 meters, we were able to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty that awaited us below the surface. The sea temperature of 26°C added to the perfect diving conditions, making it an absolute paradise for underwater enthusiasts.
DIVE 1: NORTHERN CAVES
As we descended to the reef, we were immediately greeted by the presence of an Oceanic Blacktip shark, setting the tone for an extraordinary dive. Venturing further, we encountered a magnificent, oversized pufferfish and even had the chance to collect sharks' teeth in the second caves. Our mid-water exploration was nothing short of spectacular, as we found ourselves surrounded by no less than 7 Oceanic Blacktip sharks, keeping us captivated for the remainder of our bottom time. It felt like a baited dive with these majestic creatures. Just when we thought the excitement couldn't get any better, a Tiger shark made a mesmerising appearance in the distance, circling around us, leaving us in awe.
DIVE 2: NORTHERN CAVES
Continuing our adventure, we ventured into the first caves, where a true spectacle awaited us. A staggering 25 to 30 Ragged Tooth Sharks gracefully inhabited the caves, filling the area with their presence. Spending most of our bottom time with these magnificent creatures was an experience we will never forget. Moving on from the caves, a Zambezi (Bull) shark swam by, adding an unexpected element of surprise to our dive. And as if that wasn't enough, mid-water greeted us with the company of 4 Oceanic Blacktip Sharks, keeping us thoroughly entertained until the end of our dive.
