I was there. I was 18, stood on the step of the floor so just above the madness of that front crowd looking down. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful or brutal. Before or since. Perry had just shaved his head that day and he was liked a sexy pit-bull. Everyone of us, boy, girl, man, woman or whatever, was grabbing at him (as those people he gave the mic to shouted lol). At the end I had my hands up in the air smiling and goofing like an idiot, and Perry smiled at me.
Ever heard of nine inch nails? Or pigface? Or skatenigs? Or crash worship? Or fishbone? Or primus? Or butthole surfers? Or ministry? Or Mr bungle??? These bands were at or near their prime at the same time. If you saw any of their shows, you would agree that that time was a smorgasbord of great rock acts. Fuck even sisters of mercy or ethyl meatplow or machines of loving grace put on shows of the same caliber as Jane's addiction. Not taking anything from perry Ferrell & crew, but there were quite a lot of really great acts at that time.
I just saw them for the first time a few weeks ago opening for Smashing Pumpkins. I like Smashing Pumpkins but Jane's Addiction blew them away that night and you could feel that sentiment in the audience.
You say those words BleAK and they r true.....but u can't really get how amazing they were at this time unless you saw them live and experienced it for yourself. Whatever the 90's had, they captured it perfectly better than any band at that time imo.
You were damn lucky. I did my degree in London and would have gone if I'd known about it. Saw them four times on the main tour. Only found out about this one after the event. Back in the days when only yuppies had mobile phones and no way to get the word out....
Oh Perry...the light that burns brightest.... I will always love you and your band....you shaped my life and my philosophy.....just three short years 1988-1991...insane times xxx
i was there..london was rockin those days !!! :) after this show we went to an after-hours nightclub, trippin to "heavy metal" tunes of the day (eg faith no more) london supported all styles late 80s/early 90s, skinheads were fading and everyone was partying (no smart phones, no corona virus...just lots of booze & good times)
Holy freaking moly! This is probably the most intense live show of theirs I have seen. Those people were lucky to witness this. Just wow! They were on spot and all into it!
What a show. The crowd here got something I didn't get live, a great performance by the violin player. Perry's dancing is pretty fab. How the band keep it tight with all perry's altering of the delay on his vocals is just nuts. Gibbs Haynes did the same with his vocals interestingly. I think the show I saw was looser and wilder but this is just as electrifying. Loved it!
The day after my 17th birthday. Unfortunately I would not know who they were until 2 years later. But then I never looked back after hearing them on Nothing's Shocking. Perry's voice mesmerized me.
I was there - am amazed to find this footage. We were in the centre upstairs beside another camera shooting footage. It was an incendiary show, one of the best I've ever seen.
Not just this show 86 - 92 they were pure fire every night gnr and nirvana were good but they could not touch Janes addiction During this period no band compared to their energy on stage back then
The raw power of this is awesome. Thanx for posting. I saw them in Melbourne Sept 91, 1st show ever in oz(?). Wish like hell there was footage of that. The show was postponed 3 months and I think oz was their last destination before they broke up. The first 5 minutes was the most explosive thing I ever saw on stage. From memory they started with had a dad, perry wearing similar to this, braces with a white singlet and fidora. Downed half a bottle of scotch(?) in the first minute (I see him with a bottle at the start of this) and proceeded to tear it up. Crowd had been waiting for months to see them went berzerko. Later in the show he threatened to walk off due to the amount of stage diving.
Thank you so much for posting this. I was there to & it has made my day to see this again, after having seen them last night at Brixton Academy. Last night was the 6th time I've seen Jane's Addiction. I heard them on John Peel in 1990 when I was a fashion student at Newcastle Poly & was so blown away I went to see them by myself at Newcastle Riverside. Then I saw them 10.03.1991 at Newcastle Mayfair, then 15.03.1991 at Brixton Academy - 3 Jane's gigs in 12 days! 5th time was supporting NIN at the 02 and then last night. I remember this was a secret warm up gig. I was doing work experience in the Epic Press office at the time & Matt Reyonds who I was working for tipped me off - THANKS Matt, this gig was the best gig of my life & having just re-watched it I can totally see why - their sheer raw energy was electric.
I saw them at Brixton 1991 - best gig of my life. I remember being carried from side to side in the mosh area near the front - I lost my watch - thought f**k I'll never get it - then 1 minute later a guy tapped me on the shoulder and handed me back my watch intact!
@@stuwilso1 thats SUCH a perfect metaphor for how the mosh was back then. It was violent. brutal. But beautiful. A shared exhale. But when you fell there was always a load of hands that came down and dragged you to your feet with a smile and a hug. I was at this, but also at Brixton. I'll never forget Summertime Rolls at that Brixton gig. We were all one.
Thanks for posting, I was there too and it still remains one of the best live shows I've ever seen. It was a privilege to be there. I just bought tickets to see them at Brixton Academy playing the 'Nothing's Shocking album, I'm hoping that will be another night to remember.
I don't remember if I knew of Lush before Perry had hand picked them for Lollapalooza. I saw Jane's in NYC on 4/24/91 & Happy Mondays opened for them. It was amazing; I was still a kid, few days from 17. I worked at a Music Distributor and got Lush Spooky & Gala and turned some of my friends on to them. They are one of my faves too. I missed Lush in 2016 Reunion Tour bc I was not longer a concert goer and was dating a new girl. Was so pissed. Then about a week and a half ago Miki Berenyi was in L.A. and after that she announced The Miki Berenyi Trio with Budgie from Siouxsie & The Banshee's are playing a few main cities in North America. There was like no notice and all the resellers were already selling them 3 times there face value. It's at Webster Hall in June and I ordered mine online. I sure hope I didn't get scammed, I doubt it.

Absolutely! ... I've loved them since 92, at the age of 13 ... Only recently realized how much Avery carries them.
Avery was Jane's
I know I'm kinda off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch new series online?
