      4 out of 5 masterclasses i've had in my life, all of them studied under him too! and my actual cello teacher's teacher's teacher was rostropovich :D

      And he is technically my great cello grandfather, hahaha. My teacher’s now teacher studied with him.

    Vibrato goes in the direction of gravity... Cello/Bass will initially fall forward and then rebound to center; Violin/Viola, the hand will fall back and then rebound to center (hence Rolland's observation of Starker's motion). I remember many discussions that I also had with Mr. Rolland about this very thing, although I was but a high school student and at the time--full of myself; the "know-it-all." But, as I've lived on, I am convinced that shoulder instruments' instinct is opposite of that of floor instruments' instincts simply because the direction of gravity.

      Click on the gear at the bottom right corner, then Subtitles, then English (you might have to click on Auto Generate first).
