Paper logs are actually safer than e-logs.e-logs force you to drive tired because you will lose your time so it makes you keep driving even when you shouldn't be.and when I say makes you it's up to you but hopefully people know what I mean.also if you're close to home on paper you just go home but with elogs you have to stop and take a 10 just to go another hour to get home.e-logs are why you see so many drivers parking on off and on ramps and other places that they really shouldn't park.back to paper please

  • @southtexan1761

Paper to me was less stressful. This should be a choice for each driver whether Owner Operator or Company driver not a force..Government tries to put it a one size fits all over all of the truck drivers when trucking is a multi occupational service. OTR should be treated different than local delivery & Oilfield. I owned my own oil production after my father died and ended up doing hot shots in the oil field for 15 years in Texas. I loved my job wholeheartedly, and it was fun until the ELDs came about, then it sucked to where I don't even drive anymore because of it. They're squeezing the life out of the trucking industry to where product is just going to sit at the dock. Truck drivers are tired of this shit.

All logging regulations violate our bill of rights. We have the right to freedom of movement within our borders. When the rules say that you're out of hours to drive, you are being unlawfully detained. When you hit 70 hours for the week you're done, this violates your right to free enterprise. We need DOGE to deregulate these unconstitutional mandates.

Anyone who prefers eld over paper just wants daddy fed to govern them harder. Same rules technically apploed to paper that apply to ELD, i dont know why these guys always claim dispatchers are making them do dirt, i aint never worked for no scumbag desk jockey, and i know the laws that are there for my protection, and i know how to use them in my favor. Get familiar with the rules and learn that mess and you can save yourself headache and stress with the jackoffs on the other end of the phone, trust me.

This is the difference. One word . Cameras! It doesn't matter if you run paper logs now because if you cheat them you have cameras everywhere. People complaining of Elogs dont think how advantageous they are. You work minute to minute instead of 15 minutes blocks on paper logs. I been driving 30 years life is easy now. D.O.T. hate elogs cause it cut down on fines. You have to be an idiot to violate an Elog. Clue is you run 8-9 hours per day then plan a shutdown. It works out . 😊

Maybe its not even paperlogs or elds the problem. Its the rules its self. They think HOS is a one size fits all, but it really is not. DOT needs to revise and do some studies on the human driver, not only to drive but also for the driver to have time to be healthier. For example how is a driver gonna be healthy if they never have time for a walk or something, of course they have a 10 hour period but once we are done we just want to crash.

Big companies that have the e. L. D's. Show where everything was changed. How many times you also did it? Even if your company does change things on your e l d logs. Good luck on being able to pay for a new truck and trailer driving under ELD.
ELD will not allow you to run cheap miles because, as a solo driver, you are time limited. Unless you run as a team, paying for a $200k+ piece of equipment at today's cheap freight rates and high finance interest, it will be impossible.
Remember that you still have to pay FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE plus your fuel bill.
You will be a slave of that truck for the next 5-6 years.
Plus, you'll have to kiss goodbye 💋 around $40k for your down payment.

      @Dan.a.k.a.bradpitt :
Whatever your ELD device allows you to drive, that will be your gross.
Whether your truck is paid for or not, ELD will dictate how much revenue you make per day, solo or team.
If you are a solo Owner-Operator you are shotdown after 14 hrs.
That's the end of your revenue for that day.
If you started at 5 am, you are done at 7 pm if you didn't take a continuous non moving 8 hr break in order to extend your day.

I only ever drove with paper logs. 98% of the time I was within the legal limits. But there was that 2% that I should have been put out of service because...well, you all know why. The thing about the paper logs is that I didn't really have to keep them 100% up to date all the time. I could stop for a five minute break to take care of business, be on my way, and not have to log the stop. Since I drove motor coach, and I often had a set itinerary, I could finish my log at the end of the day using the time we were supposed to stop with the time I remembered...and it would give me a bit of wiggle room.

If I were to redo the HOS, I would eliminate the 34 hour restart, go to an 84 hour week instead of a 70.
I would do the HOS as 12 on 12 off. A driver could split like 6 o&o, a 7&5 with a 5&7 even. Or 12 &12. They would in a 24 hour period have to have 12 or more off and cannot work total more than 12 in a day.
This would put the driver closer to. 24 hour cycle and no recap issues. No 14 hour issues, no 8 hours then 30 minute interruption.
15 minute pretrip and drive 11:45 a day just circle the start hour, that starts a 24 hour clock/“window”in which driver can work and as long as they don’t work more than 12 within that 24 hour total, they are compliant .

I come from a time when there was no such thing as a gps, you used a map. In those days you only had to show a 8 hour shutdown every 24 hours. The beauty was you could split those 8 hours as long as you showed 2 or more hours in one of the splits and the balance in the next shutdown. This way if a shipper or receiver had you sitting for over 2 hours it didn't matter because it allowed you to be able to ride out and just have to shutdown for 6 and back at it again. Paper logs plus 8 hour shutdown was best

ELD'a were designed with other regulations to constrict a small business to a single digit profit margin. Mega carriers can make tens to hundreds of millions off of a decimal of a percent, but if you're a small business owner you're lucky to come away with a 50k profit margin if you have a 5-10 truck fleet per annum.

I never had any problems paper logging - eld's didn't allow for PC and would flag for violations if the truck moved while trying to use PC. I also hated how logging on just a couple seconds early could ruin a whole day. Don't know if it's like that still but those were some of my biggest problems when eld's first came out

Trucking was less stressful before ELD logs . It was less stressful on the old 10 hour driving rule and 15 hour work day . Now you can't stop your 14 hour clock . Less wrecks and nobody was in a Nascar race out there

Your 14 hour clock stops if you go off duty for 2 continuous hours prior to going on your 30 minute break, in the first 8 hours of your shift.
Why can't you "old timers" who think you know everything about trucking figure this shit out?!?!?! You don't have to add, subtract... there's absolutely nothing to think about, the God damn ELD resets the time automatically for you. It's not God damn rocket science.
You idiots fuckin' crack me up about how y'all think this shit's stressful. I remember my trainer freaking out on a Sunday night in traffic jam on I-94 just north of Chicago, I jumped his ass and told him to shut the hell up. I'd been in worse situations in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was just a traffic jam due to a accident.
You idiots used to drive for HOURS beyond the legal limit and most of you used amphetamines to stay awake while you did it. Everybody knows you carried 2 log books, which was stupid in the first place: why in the fuck would you carry a log book showing how many hours you REALLY drove? Do think a trooper wouldn't find it if he really wanted to?
This job's only stressful if you're a dumbass, it's not hard. "Steering Wheel Holders" prove everyday, this is not a hard job.

Nay, drivers partially to blame at time as well, cause of “comfort”.
Instead of parking up at the nearest rest area. And logging off duty jumping back in their sleeper for the night…. They drive straight to their parking lot, cause hey… out of hours.. buts homes just 30 minutes up ahead. Then complain about driving all drowsy, no Hours cause the dispatcher didn’t dispatch right. But hey Had to get home for ma girl

Why can a man go underground in a coal mine and work 16 hours a day, or build a bridge or roadway at 16 hours legally a day with zero cap yet a trucker can work a little over half that per day to not get over 70 hours if he took a week off. The rules are just dumb, and the few good rules they had are no longer enforced which is why trucking has declined to the foreigners who dont value trucking.

Actual Business owners should be able to run thier business how they choose long as they are not driving tired or overly fatigue whoch is what the eld mandate was about, company drivers should have to follow company rules period.
