  • NEW DELHI: Amidst the continuing India-China standoff in eastern Ladakh, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a revamped war memorial at Rezang La, where one of the fiercest battles was fought during the Chinese invasion 59 years ago. A small band of Indian troops was outnumbered by the marauding Chinese but not before rewriting a new chapter in exemplary courage. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale revisits the battle of Rezang La.

Nitin, yes, battle of Rezanga la was a futile battle for lost cause, but it poured a bucketful of ice cold water on head of Chinese psyche . Chinese leaders realized what Indian army can do and what is resolve. Till battle of Rezang la PLA was considering IA as pushover but there at Rezang la they saw steel nerve of Indian soldiers and leadership of Indian army officer. My humble tribute to " veeron ke veer, veer Ahir." Jai Hind, Jai bharat ki sena.

Yes. You're very right. That was 1962 (& the WHOLE WORLD knows the facts & ground situation & there is nothing that India hides ).
SO WHAT? This is 2021, not 1962. People who lived then are dead & buried now. Do you mean to say that they be exhumed? Why don't you join them too? You belong there.
If ever, most Indians were sad that 1962 happened & unhappy too, stabbed by a so-called friend.
There is no "natural" friendship between the two peoples (it was never cultivated; I am frank). PRC has all the time running down India & that India will never ever forget.
Indians of this generation are thankful to PRC for giving India a wake-up call & India is fully prepared.
PRC has all along been indulging in a futile exercise of frightening (like a ghost) India. It developed it into a fine art form. Many millions here (of the 139O millions) are cowed down by this Chinese grandstanding. But the overwhelming majority wanted to get back their lost lands as well as to "liberate" Tibet (Tibetans aren't Chinese). PRC may have 100 times the figures of India in everything, but India too isn't something to be dismissed away (only PRC could do in its utter foolishness). If PRC has developed over the decades, so too is India. There are many factors that PRC can't even compete with India & India knows that.
Whatever it is, let both the armed forces meet in the battle-fields. This is a challenge.

@@lbonan Thanx for highlighting facts. Since you have written Jai Hind at the end of comments I presume you are Indian, but your mother is Indian or father is Indian isn't known.
Yes, Indian political leadership and military leadership lost their nerve in 1962 and was routed, but not Indian soldiers. They made supreme sacrifice facing certain death and defeat. Same soldiers in 1967 at nathu la made Chinese eat their xxxx when military leadership was high. Yes, we Indians do celebrate our Defeat more than our victory and pay tribute to our fallen heroes. It is Chinese who couldn't pay tribute to their fallen comrades.

Yes, the fallen were pawns for incompetent politicians & Generals who had ulterior motives. Poor jaswans just want to feed their families but died in vain. May their souls rest in peace🙏🙏🙏
India should avoid harbouring the past....let bygone be bygone....start a fresh & develop to be another China. Together - India & China - will bring peace to the world instead of Western Colonialism that imprisoned & brings untold sufferings to mankind.
Your enermy is not China but the West, your Politicians & inapt Generals.
As a former officer of a howitzer battalion, I can vouch the jaswans are sitting ducks with their immovable M777 from counter-strikes by artillery & now drones & missiles. The key to survival in an artillery unit is shoot & scoot, i.e., hit & run. Remaining in one position is suicide. So much for the IA doctrine & abilities of your Generals.
It doesn't matter whether it was Rezang La or Natu La, the sad thing was unnecessary deaths of frontline personnel on both sides.
In the next war between India & China, your jaswans will be annihilated by China according to this wise Indian ex-Artillery Officer: ruclips.net/video/UK919CyzA5E/видео.html

The battle at Chushul wasn't lost. A position was over run with 120 dead on India's side, 300+ on China's side, and surely more than that wounded. Many wounded Chinese probably died on the way back to base camp, and on the way back east for proper medical treatment. Many probably died of frostbite. In fighting to death, the Company caused China such a logistics hurdle that it is not surprising Chushul is now on the India side of the line of actual control. C company set a benchmark which China surely fears today. Gaining a square metre of territory from India likely requires a cubic metre of Chinese blood. That is the calculus China has learnt from war with India.

Phase I of 1962 war was from 20th Oct to 28th Oct. China won but stopped, and offered India for peaceful negotiation. However, India refused China's offer and requested USA for help. Then Phase II of the War from 16th November to 21st Nov started. Again China won, but China ceasefired unilaterally. China returned all the captured Indian military equipment and the Indian captives. China even fulled the Indian tanks with oil and returned to India. The food offered to Indian captives was even better than that of PLA.

Even Chinese admitted 500 fatalities (highest of 1962) and in couple of days, 21st of November, they went for unilateral cease fire, without any interference from UN or Super Power. This resistance broke the backbone of their resolve. Every soldier was carrying 600 bullets (as per Hindu newspaper) so what is wrong in 1300 Chinese fatalities? Please do some research before you speak on such serious topic.
