This is hopefully the first of many videos I'll be making on Lego and D&D- combining the modular and easily customizable building options of Lego into the game of D&D provides you with an incredibly fun TTRPG experience! Today we'll discuss how I use Lego for the tabletop, the Lego Ideas challenge for D&D, and the pros/cons you will face using Lego building elements in your own game.

And now, a year later, we have DnD sets confirmed!
The only issue is that price tag
@@beeafraid22 Always is with Lego
@@Kull1339 $360?! Not really but with licensed themes yeah.
Just get the essentials, for tunnels and walls buy dirt cheap simple lego ripoff bricks
not only that - minifig series with dnd characters is rumored to be incoming (already first list of characters included got leaked along with new pics for cosmic minifig series)
I’ve actually been doing this for a bunch of years with my kids. Although I don’t make the board out of Lego, I use regular maps with cardboard stand up for monsters and doors, but I let the kids make their own characters with all the extra mini figure parts that I have. My one daughter has attack wiener dogs, and my son has attacked chickens that he found at the Lego store.
We kind of loosey-goosey with the rules, so we kinda make it up as we go, but it’s fun
D&D is for imagination nothing wrong with altering the regulations.
@@keithallen5670 right. That’s what I said. That can worry about rules later
You sound like a great parent, hope your family does well! :D
@@ezrasirman7414 hey thanks! We don’t play as much as we’d like but when we do, we have a great time and my wife always makes pizza rolls or some other kind of snacks for us to eat while we’re playing
That sounds so fun! I want attack weiner dogs too!
I love this. I came up with the idea of playing a simplified D&D with my 5 and 6 year old boys to help teach them math, storytelling and even incorporate some spelling in it. I thought using their Lego as miniatures would be fun too then I saw that Lego were doing a D&D set. I think your idea of a modular build is great considering what they're doing with their Mario sets.
Yo thats a cool way to teach your kids. Im use that
Yeah, I do the same thing. The math the math parts. Easy for my kids. It’s the spelling part they don’t wanna do. They’ll tell me that they’re playing a game and not doing schoolwork.
Hope the kids take the extra mini figures and make their own characters from it
The Crossover potential for this format is insane, considering how many existing figs there are.
being the nerd that I am, I already have a few of Character Building's Daleks.
Sir, this is Heroica!
Just bigger! XD
Exactly what I was thinking. I loved those sets a lot, but never actually got to play them with people.
But now that there's an official D&D Lego set, any and EVERY figure from previous ones can be used for it...at least, until Lego and WotC gives us more characters
Heroica: He does what I do!
Lego ideas: But better.
Would be very cool if they made a LEGO-themed RPG video game. Like, imagine a LEGO version of either Dragon's Dogma, Baldur's Gate, or Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Lego Final fantasy 9 remake
i saw that beard piece.

I’ve wanted to get the parts around for stuff like this, it would probably require thousands to cover a wide variety of environments but it would be worth it when you can rapidly build a set piece and then disassemble to use the parts for other set pieces. And the players get to build their own mini’s, so much fun!
I love the design, really simple, convenient and appealing! I like the doors, bookcases and other nice details that enrich the visual style. Thank you for the ideas, I was thinking about and looking for something like this for my own game.
the inner child in me just had an heart attack, looks so good 😭
a regular dnd map is exactly a 3 stud large square a a 3x3 plate and a 3to2 plaque are perfect supports for minifigs,
and yes horse and cows take 2 square, minifigs fit in one, it's all compatible
This is something I've tried to do myself but never had the parts. I can say for sure I would pay big money for something like this! Lego is really missing out by not turning something like this into an entire theme! The design you've come up with is great by the way!
I cant belive they didnt do this before. Or other wargames, minis are perfect, they even pumped out battle pacts lol
If you consider chess a wargame, they made many chessboards over the years. From many different themes:
Fantasy-era Castle (Trolls/undead against humans/dwarves), Kingdoms Castle (Lion/Royal knights vs Green Dragons), Harry Potter (the one in the first book/movie), Creators (just regular chessboards made of lego), Pirates (with pirates), Vikings (with vikings), etc.
They are amazing not only as chess sets but also to build armies of minifigs from various factions.
Lego modular dungeon rooms is great idea: Even if buy/receive duplicate room/set can use/want them!
Please do more of these! I’ve been trying to recreate this set the best I can from just looking at it but I’d love if you did a building video
It actually might be cheaper to do this with actual dnd resources
Funny story, way back in the day I used to play the star wars ttrpg and we always made our mini with Legos.
Nice video, just getting back into DND and was playing at a friends house. We were usiing nuts and bolts to represent characters and not etc. but I’m going to introduce some Lego minifigs into the equation but what you have done is next level. Thanks for sharing
If if you have extra mini figure parts, or just bags of mini figures, you’re not using mixing match everything and use those as characters
There’s a lot of potential for Lego D&D, or any RPG for that matter. Imagine the possibilities of cobbling together a bunch of old LOTR, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, and Star Wars sets together.
Nice setup!!! Been building and creating board games to play with my kids, the Lego versions are the most expensive, but your floor modular system is a good size i´m adding it to my setups!!!
I’d LOVE to see a video giving some tips on what sets are best to collect for pieces, saves me spending a fortune on sets I’ll never use
Me too!
31120 have many parts to build furnitures and walls, comes with 4 minifigs
I wish this was the set that won.... 😢
I’ve been using Lego to my RPG campaigns for years
Your PC minifigs look awesome, especially the Tiefling, Kazu! Made a few of my own with the pieces available, just waiting for the *perfect* colors to come. Super excited for the official set, take care and happy DMing!
Love to see a zoomed in view of your minifigures
Lego needs to just hire you to develop multiple sets of these. I need these sets or at least building instructions. 10 out of 5 stars, exactly what I was looking for.
Seeing the modular board is inspiring. Long term goal for me right now.
Short term would be a classic Lego Castle setting for a campaign. Or Heroica.
This is awesome! Immediately started making my own!
This is phenomenal! I wish you make instruction for it or at least a list of parts you need to do the modular thing.
Hope you win! This set really helps lower the barrier of entry to get into DnD.
i know that it wouldn't be easy to add to something like this, however chima and fantasy sets have interesting creatures as well, also recent additions to the collectible mini figures have been things like centaur and vampires. fright knights sets, have a lot of interesting creatures that can be used, like spiders of different colors. i'm aware of licensing issues with content, however Lego harry potter has added glow in the dark spiders and peg pieces used as mushroom stalks. those could add some visual interest in areas of maps like, caves or a dark forest area.
I really hope this wins! I’m playing my first dnd game tomorrow and I like it I’d totally buy this!
Kazu this whole build is INCREDIBLE 🥳🥳🥳
Hope you can make another video on the Minifigures for this game 🤞 keep it up 👍
What a cool new LEGO set, I am glad that LEGO made one now. Good Set review!
I find this project truly incredible. I'm currently trying to reproduce it at home LOL. But unfortunately I don't have the doors you use :/ Do you know where I could find them?
only thing now would be the ability to have multiple levels. There needs to be modular supports for second, third, forth levels sort of builds
Brilliant for quick D&D gameing for fighting. Currently I use mini figures for games. But I use other stuff for the land.
Looks like lego took this video to heart, and giving us more to work with (cause in addition to some sets, there will be a minifigure series supposedly)
I really do think Lego and WOTC have a goldmine on their hand with this collab
I use Lego minifigs for TTRPG including D&D. I am surprised a collab didn't happen yet between WOTC and Lego.
Wizards is owned by Hasbro, who sells their own line of knock off Lego sets. That's probably why.
I like the pin connects, have you considered using the 3 long pins and sandwiching the stopper inside the square
I had same idea some time before but never tried to make it. Your vision is pretty good and i am glad I've seen this video!
I love this, such a great idea♥🍀
I thoroughly enjoyed building and playing with the official Lego D&D set, but definitely appreciate your efforts here! Do you have your own Bricklink or instructions? Cheers 🍻
Did you mention if the baseplate is 1 inch per square? Are they close to a 5-foot scale?
I really want to see that list of Lego sets that work best for D&D use. I also hope to see a 3d printing video for specialized pieces for decorations and Minifigs. Thanks!
Awesome idea and looks amazing!
Definitely giving me ideas. I got a brain idea to make a custom Lego Wargame(Inspried by Warhammer and LOTR SBG), and I wanted to take it a step further to create a base/terrain for this eventual idea.
Definitely gonna help!
Since this lost out on the IDEAS vote, is there a way I could pay for a PDF of the instructions for a set like this?
Dude, this should've won for sure!
Upscaled Lego Heroica years later, crazy.
And here we are and the set exists
Lego Player characters, scenery, and even monsters sure.
But I would have to win the lottery to make the floor tiles also out of Lego.
Cool builds and minifigures! I'm personally not keen on a modular dungeon since that seems a bit too niche to me (while I've played Dungeons & Dragons and do love it, it's been years since I've really played it with my last system being 3.5 Edition so I've been out of the loop for a while; yeah, I'm old, lol).
I'm definitely more of a buildable monster and minifigs kinda guy, so that's what I submitted for my own entry for the contest but I can see the appeal for a modular dungeon system for folks who still play D&D and want to use it for their games.
I do like how you kept your build relatively to the affordable and compact side as I don't think your average Lego fan (who are probably not overly familiar with D&D) is willing to fork over that much money for a bunch of floor tiles and walls (and on top of having to purchase multiple sets to combine them to make a decent sized dungeon).
I can see the counter-argument that Lego has already given us multiple dragon builds with the Harry Potter and Ninjago themes, so a brickbuilt D&D dragon build (which seems to be the more popular and iconic of the creature build submissions; I myself submitted a dragon) may seem somewhat redundant.
I suppose we'll see what exactly Lego is looking for when they reveal the five finalists on November 28 (I think?) or early December, and actually open up the contest to fan voting on Lego Ideas, which should be exciting. I personally think Lego will more than likely choose something that ties in with the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film that gets released sometime next year, I believe. It makes the most financial and marketing sense to me, and Lego does like movie tie-ins with licensed themes like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Avatar, and Indiana Jones.
Either way, I want something cool and have a great mix of minifigures with special prints and accessories, so it should be a win-win for fantasy RPG fans in general, regardless of what gets selected as the lucky winner.
Good luck with the contest!
Wow, thanks for the lengthy reply! I have pretty similar thoughts with regards to the D&D 50th anniversary challenge, it probably will be a set that's more of a display piece rather than something that is meant to be used as a system with D&D. I'm still looking forward to whoever wins and good luck to you as well in the contest!
Could you please put the manticore design on the rebrickable page.
I really really want to get into D&D. I love Stranger Things, and I love everything that has to do with DND cus it just looks like such an interesting game that I know is gonna be fun for me. My teacher back in like 4th grade made his own dungeons and dragons game just for my class but it was really simplified since we were so young, but I remember how fun it was. I know for sure if I want to, I can just set myself into the world of DND and learn it. I want to play with my friends but they are way too unserious so I think I gotta find someone else but one day I will 100% try to learn this.
personally not that into lego, but i would love for someone to make a tile system like that for dnd
Well, this seems like it would take up quite some space somewhere in your house. Let alone be who knows how much effort to find and obtain all the certain elements (Lego pieces) you would need. But dang, this seems amazing, and a quite useful usage of any legos you have.
The *only* way to make D&D terrain more expensive 😂
this is amazing. thank you so much for making this video.
please make some more of these, maybe more types of terrain
That is such a great idea! Do you plan on posting instructions/brick list?
that dwarf... FOR GRIMNIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I've been DMing for over 20 years and I am still learning new things from younger people. I've been using minifigs for a while now, but the modular base plates and set pieces are next level. And what's with the carpeted tabletop?
Hey, did you know there actually was a theme just like this back in the Early 2010s? It was a sub-theme of what was once the Lego Games line of sets (Which were tabletop games made with Lego) called Lego Heroica. I reccomend checking it out!
such a good idea for ppl who just dont want to hassle with models and all of the painting/modding/terrain/etc ; legos and other similar products offer so many options ; obvs i still think the ppl that make custom models/terrain/etc are amazing and their artistic talents can go even further , but for those with a different bend , something like legos would be right up my alley ; the only way to improve this imho would be a hex-based grid system instead of the square system , but obvs that would require DnD to make the shift , and legos are not designed around a hexagonal design [hexagons are better than squares for strategy/tactics boardgame by far imho]
I'm using minifigs and buildings for towns, but this would be a fine adition to my collection.
That actually looks kinda fun.
You know what I would love to have this
I really like this build. It's a shame you didn't win but is there a possibility that instructions can be made for this to be put on rebrickable?
I love to a see a Lego version of HeroQuest someday.
Tharp are actual Lego d&d sets now
That's so great ! i hope you'll win :D
So cool always wanted to do this
Beautiful work man, I've been building some d&d maps myself, gotta show them to the world someday. Could you please make a video about the dragon? I'm running a white dragon adventure and need to build a mini
Do you maybe have instructions for the manicure you made?
Where did you go to get your dungeons and dragons Minifigs?
Love lego would love to do somthing like this 😊
Lego did something simmilar with Heroica games back in the day. This might be more possible than we think
heroica but much cooler, great work🔥
Man I would love to see the how make on these even if you dont win~!
F*cking genius why didnt I think of that?
I made my own ttrpg system and I'm gonna be using legos for my own miniatures because it's gonna be easier. To adjust the scale i want.
This is by far the best modular Dungeon I’ve seen so far. Really awesome work. I’ve gotten some Lego Heroica Sets because I love the idea of half-sizing this to be able to build more Dungeon with less bricks. I love the design of your doors especially. Have you put up images of your builds somewhere? Would really like to have a closer look before ordering parts 🤓
Thanks for the kind words! Here's a post from the Lego D&D subreddit I've made of this submission, you can see most of the images there!
www.reddit.com/r/legodnd/comments/zbbrkf/dungeons_and_dragons_lego_edition/
what sets do you recommend i start out with getting for environments and minis?
How did you make the Mimic figure?
so cool amazing build
Half pins, clever
Probably more expensive than minis themselves lol
Man, this reminds me at how I miss Lego Heroica 😥
It seems that people increasingly have less of an issue with cartoony art styles in fantasy- I love them for what they are but they kill my immersion which makes me feel like a party pooper but I feel is a reasonable take
Love the idea of Lego and D&D.
But man I wish I could afford it…
Not all heroes wear capes.
The lego dimensions bases are almost the same size as medium miniature bases
Any chance you'd post the instructions for this?
I would buy a few of those!
I already am a Lego Castle fan.....so :) hehe.
So essentially, play heroica with DnD rules
not saying it‘s a bad idea, unfortunately most of my lego is star wars and i tend to run (more or less) high fantasy settings
"I don't think D&D miniatures are expensive enough"
super cool!
Very good job, where did you get those blocks? There's a site that sell them or from many set? Aliexpress can work? Thanks in advance
They are all lego brick and minifigs.
