Yesterday i went to some friends and i got with me a deck of cards and i did some tricks. You cant even imagine what reactions i got, they were freaking out. I am so happy and so glad i stepped into the world of card magic, you have been the greatest teacher i could ask for
I must have watched the same RUclips video you did over 10 years ago. It was also the first trick I learned and got me started in card magic. Thanks for sharing with the next generation of future magicians. This is always my opener.
I bought your book Oscar, amazing! - well worth the purchase, I can 100% recommend. Well done and congratulations on producing such an excellent product, You are a superstar.
Omg I didn't see this trick from the original video, but Chicago Opener was the first trick I ever learned from Rick Smith Jr.! Will never forget it, glad to see it made an appearance on your channel!
I know how to fix a mistake in time 4:29. When you have 10oD at the bottom of the package, your goal is to get 10oD at the top of the package. This is done by stirring. Then you let the spactator select any card and place it on top of the deck (he must not look at it). Then just do a double lift to think he chose 10oD. You will do a double lift again so that all cards are turned the same. Then you complete the magic as in the video (5:00) I hope that's understandable.
I know this is a very late comment but I just wanted to thank you for teaching this. I’m AWFUL at slight of hand, and this trick is a wonderful one to use at any skill level, and the crowd reactions are awesome!
I knew this trick years back, and it really is THE BEST card trick in the world. Although I already knew how it's done, I watched this video. Your videos and AAA quality content combined with your amazing instruction skill is truely remarkable. You enspire me to learn something new every day, and so I do. Thank you for the videos and keep on the good work. Love from Israel :)
I have seen many videos regarding magic tricks and especially card tricks. But I have never seen such beautiful production. The sound, the voice over, the quality, the intro, the demonstration, editing everything is top notch. You are very underrated.
Don't generalize. It might have gotten you interested. I almost skipped the video because of it. I know I want to see a magic trick and how it's done (that's why I came to the video), i don't need the intro. Also, I felt like it's a lot of unnecessary work to animate that. The trick was cool and well explained and that's what matters :)
Ive always known this as Red Hot Mama. Been doing this trick for about 11 years. Always great reactions and very easy to set up. If I am ever in a place with a red and blue deck, I set this up without anyone seeing then wait til someone asks me to do a trick. Ill act like I'm caught off guard but then roll right into this routine. Great video!
Problem: During the demo phase at the 2:02 mark, it is not explained how the magician tricked the audience into "choosing" the 10-of-Diamonds. Instead, the magician merely tosses the 10oD onto the table. Later, during the teaching phase at 4:29, the magician again fails to clearly show how the audience is tricked/forced into choosing the 10oD. Sure the 10oD is on the bottom of the deck, and the magician skillfully shuffles to misleadingly keep it on the bottom, but there is no visual explanation of how the audience is forced to choose the bottom card. Instead, it is the magician who merely shows the bottom card to the audience, supposedly tricking the audience eye into thinking the card is from the middle instead of from the bottom - but we are never shown the genuine version of this moment - big problem. Worsening this video's problem, different techniques are used in the two phases at this crucial point (as the magician openly confesses, kind of an oops). Aside from this gap, I like this well presented video.
Absolutely correct. I could not get around, i could not understand how he tricked the person to pick the 10 of diamonds. Might be easier to do another video explaining this. nice pick up Ed Short
See, the second time spectator does not specify the card directly. Instead of this, the performer pretends to shuffle cards, and spectator has to tell him to stop at a random moment. The card at which the shuffle process was stopped is then proclaimed to be a chosen card. And this is the key principle: the "shuffling" is designed in such a way that the convenient card always stays at the same position, and no matter when this "shuffling" stops, the chosen card will be the "right" card.
He does address this, saying that the force he used in the demonstration isn't he one he explained later, but it's not really critical because it's a base move in card magic. The 10D starts the 2nd half of the trick at the bottom of the deck. Search RUclips for ways to force the bottom card on the spectator, there are a ton of forces to do this.

I saw that video way back in 2007 it was about 6 months after I started getting into magic. I was learning from the Royal Road to Card Magic book. I just learned all those slights, so I was excited to figure it out myself.
You can look it up for further presentations, tips , variations in certain situations etc. to suit to your needs. Its an old classic called the Chicago opener or red hot mama

@@oscar To be honest and sentimental I actually told my mom and dad about this. Absolutely made my day to have a response from you. Its crazy something from so long ago is still able to continue to influence others. Thank you again. Keep doing what you are doing.
Bro u r the best...in each of ur video's, your performance makes me go mad like anything then the trick in front of the performance is like nothing.. 😍
Great one. The main thing these RUclips card trick videos have taught me is how devilishly impossible even the most basic moves - like a "simple" double lift - are... if you haven't practiced them for a VERY long time until they become just automatic :D
Red Hot Mama! Idk about the best trick in the world Oscar, but it’s one of my favorites! I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager and you’re right - it fools the hell out of everyone who watches. (Incredible intro as usual btw).
Red Hot Mama. The Chicago opener, Been around as old as the hills.’ Good’ ol Doug Henning even performed it on one of his TV specials back in the 70’s.
Thanks for the video! But as a beginner I find this card trick hard to pull (it's difficult to pick the top 2 cards from the pile to fool the spectator)
Hey Oscar, I was wondering to join your card magic Pro I entered the website to see if they were affordable, but, unfortunately it was not. Instead, I realised that the price is too much. It's not possible for any normal person to afford it. Sometimes they give up magic because of the demotivation(I saw this in one of your video's comments) . So, I want you to do something about the price. BTW, love your talent and videos.
This is also the first card trick I learned 10 years ago on RUclips, can’t find the original vid but awesome to have a refresher from the new magicians on the block
Watch the video by Michael Ammar...'Red Hot Mama'...this is the same exact trick. The second card selected or forced on the spectator is done by use of the Hindu Shuffle. Check it out.
My dad did this trick at a family get together, except his way blew me away. So basically everything you did except the extra 10 of diamonds he puts in someones open purse or jacket/pocket when meeting + hugging everyone. So He does this trick, puts the red card aside (Except he does the double card flip to make ppl believe their card is put to the side) He then says "I bet u x Dollars I can tell u where ur card is... unless u think u know where it is. Usually people take the beat, and since u obviously put this card away from the rest of the deck, they say its right here! Expect it isn't the card. You can then either just tell them, or wash the cards... pretend like ur gonna pick 1... and then say "Check ur pocket/purse" While I hate set up tricks cuz it can be risky, it absolutely blows ppl out of the water... when ur sitting across from them and the card they picked is in the pocket/under their seat/in their purse.
