Randy you are so right on what you said. I was one step away from being homeless in 1986. I bought a 73 Buick Century for $150 when I lived in Houston drove it to Florida to see my folks found a job and here I am 38 years later on the same job that kept me fed and a roof over my head. Now I have a beautiful wife of 28 years 2 beautiful daughters both grown and successful house paid off looking forward to retirement. All thanks to that old beater Buick that got me to a new place in life.
Brother...u just made me cry...I'm literally in a position so similar to what you described that happened to you. It gave me goosebumps.
I can relate in many ways..
With the way things are these days even the smallest kindness shown to someone who is truly in need can go a long way.
"You can't have no in your heart" - Joe Dirt
Facts!
I bought my son a 2010 ranger like this one for 200$. Best Buy ever. I love it. I spent 100$ fixing all the last issues and dang it’s a sweet Lil truck
I was broken-hearted when Ford discontinued the last Ranger, they were so affordable and such tough little trucks. If I had a choice between a brand new one and the prior generation, I'd take the prior generation in a heartbeat. I'd love to get my hands on a 4.0L 5-speed Ranger Splash.
Ranger 500.oo
That Ranger is great! I had a 92, 94 and 96, all were 4 cyl 5 speeds. Great trucks. All had 100k+ miles.
They are great. I have heard that 400K is possible with the 2.3 L. And with the 5 speed, it moves out of the way.
Ty for sharing with us randy.I for one needed to be reminded that things can get worse very fast and can relate to needing a friend sometimes
Randy that story in the beginning was very touching. I’m glad to see you are doing well. You deserve it you’re a good guy!
Thanks for telling that life story. I have a 300$ Astro panel I’ve driven it over 100,000 miles back and forth to a 70 hour a week job for three years now. Life doesn’t give luck only opportunities.
Thank you for all you do Randy. I try to help the homeless in my area as anybody could be a paycheck away from being homeless.
The 2012-2019 Focus were known to have transmission problems on automatic models.
The 2008-2011's were fine.
Thanks for the video, Randy.
The 2012+ Focus and 2011+ Fiesta suffered from Ford's failed experiment with dual-clutch automatics. If you can score one with a manual transmission, they're great cars.
@@JREwing78 Cousin had one with an auto, not sure if she had issues, got a Crosstrek, which I'm not a fan of.
It's the cockroach of pickup trucks - the Ford Ranger. It'd survive a nuclear bomb!! (figuratively speaking) I've owned two of them. One was a '89 junker that my mom totalled, the other was a new 2003 that got repoed when I got laid off.
Yeah I had a 02 ranger 5speed
My parents had an 89 with a 5 speed it was also totaled sadly. My parents said if we still had that truck it'll have 300k miles on it
Truths Randy! Some need to learn to appreciate the smallest things in life.. But these days folks don't want to work whereas some would love to.. Mad luv N Respect to you and yours. Your lost loved ones are smiling at your hustle.. Keep the grind alive!
Randy, glad you are still at it despite how things have been lately.
I am 54 years old and have gotten into a position position where not having an automobile has been a hindrance for going to work.
I made bad choices went to prison, got out only to have my own beloved and trusted brother use my bring on parole to human traffic me for almost free labor.
Some friends who were cat lovers stepped up to help me so that I could keep pet 😸 kitties.
I live in a cargo trailer on their property and occasionally yhey may get angered and threaten to toss me on the streets,so far they have not made good on that threat.
Anyway I would be in absolute heaven to get my hands on any beater that ran. I would love to get back to working and reearn my independence. Anyway hope you have time to read my sob story.
Take care and get well, love your content.
.
Love the beater car. Yes it’s nice to have new and niceties, but when it all comes down to it, when something takes you from point a to b, it’s what really matters.
Who wants a nice new truck if you are doing real work, as long as the frame isn't rotten out.
Hi love the rants shows that you are a real person
Life has had some challenges but you made it to the light at the end of the Tunnel.
Well done for not giving up.
I understand what you going through.
Keep up the good content as much as you can and the good fight.
Great video, as usual. I worked for O'Reilly Auto Parts right out of high school before going to EMT school.. Those little Rangers are worked hard, but will say they do maintain them well, well at least my store did..
You really make me strive to change my ways and be way more grateful for what I have and the position I’m in maybe it’s not the best but it can always be worse. Keep doing what your doing man Vids are awesome .
So nice to watch you Randy you are in my prayers with the nice things your doing for not so well off people you will be welcome with open arms when you get the call not for a long long time keep safe and look after your shoulder best wishes from the UK
I think they fixed the transmission for 2015 and above, I could be wrong tho.
I do pretty well for myself in life and I’d still daily that little Ranger. That little four cylinder and 5 speed is invincible. Plus, you wouldn’t have to worry about scratching it.
I have a soft spot in my heart for them rangers. I like the automatic one.
Those Lima 2.3-2.5's were indestructible, very solid engines. I've seen them with over 400k miles. The Mazda 2.3L engine in the newer ones are also reliable, but a little harder to work on. The newer ones are interference, while the older ones were non-interference.
Facts Randy . I lost my Toyota tryna pay rent before getting evicted. I had no car to do my job doing deliveries and a new friend I just met gave me a 08 Odyssey that i have now and it's a beater but I can make money ..check engine light is on but its still going strong. Hopefully I can upgrade soon
I own a 2001 ford ranger and man do they last forever, it’s probably the most durable truck I’ve ever owned, it’s a work truck so it sees a good bit of use but you just can’t kill them. I would definitely love to see you buy one and do more videos on it.
Randy I follow you on Instagram I also follow you on Facebook and RUclips I don't need a vehicle but I want to let you know you are a great human being thank you for doing what you do to help people that really need it may God bless you and your family and keep you safe brother and I hope your shoulder gets better
We’re actually homeless rn, living in hotels and at family members houses. My mom has a job rn and we’re trying to get a place, everything is working out, we’re just waiting for a landlord to actually let us rent one of there properties, it’s tiring searching for homes but I’m manifesting us to get our place by the end of this month
(We became homeless when we moved from MD in June and moved to the Carolinas)
those rangers are unbreakble. i would love to see a giveaway on it :)
I've had three Rangers over the years. 84 base model with a 2.3, 93 XLT 3.0 and my current truck is a 96 Mazda 3000 4x4.
I don't mind your rants at all. You're right about someone being in desperate need of a vehicle and that little ranger would fill the bill. You're a very caring and good person randy I can tell that by your videos. Keep up the good work.
I’m in similar predicament my brother in law just totaled my car a few days ago so I’m fighting that and my fiancé and I are only down to one vehicle so I’d be thankful to drive anything idc what it is because our money situation isn’t great so can’t get a new one at the moment. I’ve been here since the beginning keep up the good work you have came along ways love the content
Those Rangers are immortal with basic proper maintenance
A lot of people can learn from your hard times n sounds like you man of of words about been honest n giving someone fair go in life👍I was lucky I got Leyland mini, yes exactly Mr Bean green mini from grandma, great car but expensive to fix I save up to buy old 81? Mitsubishi L200 wasn’t perfect but did the job. Buying cheap old cars n trucks you great experience especially fixing them.
You are so right keep your vlogs coming cause I lived in a trailer park also . You are honest and it shows . Thank you
I feel ya about thinking about the past. Diagnosed 2 years ago with cancer and even some of the weirdest and small memories come back to you. Keep on keeping on.
Sorry about your uncle & shoulder. Please take it from a shoulder pro! I hurt my shoulder in 1986 I’ve had 17 surgery’s shots like you got for 10 years every 3rd month. & it’s never gotten better. I should of never had the first shoulder surgery. I live in pain every day & night. Lost my life long friends & wife. What I’m getting at is live with the pain don’t get any surgery. They have not perfected the shoulder. Knees go back & forth. Shoulder’s go 360 degrees around & they can’t fix it unless it’s just something very simple. Don’t get the first surgery!!! Good luck Randy!
I can relate to being homeless, my life has changed now. But a "beater with a heater" would have been a godsend at the lowest point of my life.
Randy everything you said makes absolute sense it’s exactly the same for me when I was 16 coming out of a children’s home I bought an old mini low brakes from the junkyard but he got me a job in London you’re absolutely right in what you say🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
A friend gave me a 70 LTD Brougham with a 390 V8 hood corners was curled where it flew up, right rear door was banged in, trunk was dented. But it would chalk the tail pipe on the hwy, my brother went thru his junk yard friends so we replaced the dented parts, changed the oils and put brakes on it and I drove it for about 5 more years I ended up blessing someone else with it to get them to work. What goes around comes around.
I'm with you brother. I was homeless once as well. It was a Marine recruiter that changed my life. I was sitting leaning up against a tree when I saw shadow on my side. I heard "What's you plan"? I asked "do what"? Reply "What needs explained"? I drive a car I bought 1-7-05 for $750.00. I drive it every day no frills heater n key. '89 Pontiac Lemans for all rights should not be on the road. Does not like road trips anymore.
I've just gone from years and years of been a Gm owner vauxhall in uk and just purchased a ford focus 6 speed manual titanium diesel same generation as the one in the video and love it
Even here in NYC, we have people living in cars in Mall parking lots. Kids today don't understand because they start off with new cars. I used to be the King of the $400 car (80's) I'm going with the "stick" ranger every time.
Hi, I can relate too. I've owned many cars in my time, both new and used. One car which stands out in particular was a 96 Century I bought for $2400 back in 09 when I was down on my luck and just starting a new job. I called her Betsy. She lasted longer than the job I bought it her in anticipation for and owned her when I started my current job almost 11 years ago. She even got stolen and returned to me. I eventually sold it to my brother who drove it another couple of years and then sold it to a teen as a first car. Can't say I've owned a car prior or since where I had such an emotional connection.
Randy, just appreciate being a fan and your acknowledging my response is prize enough.
Don't mind the rant you gotta keep it real Some of us have been there went from making a 100 grand a year with a nice 2K A month house to living in a Ford Focus Hard times happen to anyone good video randy your the man keep it up 💯
Yep...drove for Oreillys after i retired.I drove a 2006 with 320K,2.3 4 bangers are tough little engines.
I drove that generation of ranger for years. Love them, and how quick they would get in the winter! Unfortunately they aren't as fuel efficient as would think.
Good morning Randy. 1998 Ford Ranger is a decent truck. The other cars and trucks are decent.
Good to see a couple of Ford Rangers on the video. I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT with a 3.0 V6. It has 235,000 miles and still runs great.
I had a 1991 Lincoln Continental loved that car. Keep on keeping on !!
I had the exact same spec 98 ranger except no tape deck. I bought it off a materials testing company so it as well abused when I got it and I abused the crap out of it. It was a great truck.
I totally agree with beater with a heater/ac. I had my ups and downs but my 01 Ford Ranger has saved me. I would love a 11 Ranger.
What a story Randy! Somebody must be watching you come a long way!
That 98Ranger would be great basic transportation. Starts and run. Not pretty but reliable. The 2011 is really nice too. Get both.
In tough financial times as these , paying it forward can change lives. Positive vibes brother!
Randy the story of you being homeless really shows your character , much respect buddy !
Love the little ford ranger. I had a 2004 and a 1985.Miss that truck.
Love that speech. So true.
Randy, you are a good person with a good heart. Who cares about what everyone thinks....yes you had hardships....yes you turned your life around you got your Mikes and Jessica behind you supporting what you do and are always there for you. Keep doing you, Trigger and I watch your videos and your friends and tell others about your channels that you promote. I can go through a car with you and we say the same things which is pretty cool lol
Your a legend Randy , not many people help others now days keep up the great work bro 👍👍👍
reverse might not be out of the Ford if the door is open sometimes they won't go in reverse my ram if the door is open and you put it in reverse it will instantly put itself in park ending like that one was doing and it was flashing on the dash door symbol
I have lived that same story a couple of times. I love the direction you are taking. Today I am far from where I was back then. Today I give to a small school in Kenya. Education is not free there. No education means a life of extreme poverty. The scoop was started for grades k 1 to 3
last year 4th was added and this December 5th grade. The school provides 1 meal a day, for many the only meal of the day. It is funded by tourists donations and runs on love.
next year
The Ranger truck reminds me of a friends Toyota truck. Small four cyl. manual, no a/c, no radio, nada. He put a few hundred thousand miles on it, only salvaged it because the frame rusted through. And the salvage yard used it as a yard truck for years.
As a o'reillys employee, the two rangers eill probably be the most reliable. They only get driven on road and rarely offroad due to delivery procedures. The 2011 will be the best one of the two.
Randy, in the video you were talking about the truck having a good Air Cconitioning (AC) system and then you said this time of year we don't need the AC and then you talked about it is a bit cold out there right now. Then you said come Summer time you'll be glad you have that HEATER. The time index was exactly 4:25 (between 4:18 and 4:27) when you said you'll be glad you have that heater. Obviously we all knew you meant to say air conditioner because who really needs a heater in this hemisphere in the Summer unless you live in the super high mountains. Anyway It was just funny and I had to make a comment on it.
The issue on those focus/fiesta models is one of the 2 clutches will fail , so either it will lose R and even gears or odd gears
Get that ranger and enter yourself in the next Danger Ranger at the Freedom Factory with Cleetus and the gang.
Those little RANGERS are awesome - have a 98 myself - 8spark plugs too Randy ;) she'll run to a million or more as long as the floor holds up.
I am currently homeless so I definitely understand completely and I could really use that truck
I had a 96 Ford ranger it was a great truck till someone totaled it I miss that truck
Good video! Love it when ya give some good advice with experiences on top. Life's a garden......dig it!!
I bought a 93 ranger for 600 dollars. Fixed suspension frontend brakes clutch rearmain seal. Its ran good for four years. Odometer has been stuck at 375 thousand since i bought it. Bet it was stuck long time ago.
that was a great video Pal and I love listening to your history 👍👍
Man sometimes things don't go your way 1996 I owned my first car I was a old Chevy I thought I was the coolest I didn't mind what they said now it's 2022 I own a Lamborghini uris all of u I believe that u can make it
to and randy thanks for the content it's really worth 5stars 💯💯
The focus’s Tcm’s (transmission control modules) typically go out. I’ve seen at least 4 with them out on Fb market place.
Bless this man for being real...
I know Several people that would be So Grateful to have that Ranger!
man I miss those small Ford trucks. my father had an 88 until 2016. it was a stick too, same 4 banger. it had 230k when the engine died.
Great vid, love the stories and I appreciate your heart. Many blessings to you!
The Fred Flintstone Ford is a yabba dabba definitely do. The other one is even nicer. If i needed one i would be grateful to have either one.
You are rite man. A vehicle Is transportation no matter what. If you are In need then you don't ask questions. Man I would love that little thing seeing my daily driver\farm truck Is down with trans problems. Still Great video and message In this.
Randy check out the orange dodge avenger behind the 2nd ford ranger it looks so good
love the copart content with great experience of yours
give your advise about what cars people can bid on and follow up with winners see if it works
Thank you bro for your great vids ,and content , 👌 and all the the enjoyment you give too your veiwers on this channel , and god bless your family ,bro...........
Dereck from Vice Grip Garage could do with a Ranger parts rig about now.
Road trip to Tennessee??
Some parts stores in our area are still utilizing that generation of Ranger as "parts trucks" to this day, Others have over the years, replaced them with bare bones, base model Chevy Colorados. I can walk to either end of our street and see five such Rangers, at least two of which are textbook beaters, that are still being utilized as daily drivers by their hard-working owners. One of our nearest neighbors recently gave his son his step side Ranger so he could have a dependable daily driver for college and work. Mileage on that particular Ranger? Just over 500,000 miles on the original engine and transmission (4cyl, 5spd)! The Ford dealers in our area sold the heck out of Rangers back in those days and many of them are still on the road today! My personal beater is an '05 Chevy Colorado Z71 LS with just shy of 250,000 miles on it with one prior owner. The 5cyl engine gives great gas milage and everything I need to work works. Just because it's relatively old, not real pretty, and lacks a bunch of bells, whistles, and gadgets does not mean it can't still get the job done.
Tin and flex seal patch for the floor, perfect A to B transportation.
I can relate to leaving by a lake I live in a pop up camper with tarps on it no power for 3 months with my 3 kids
I would love to have that 90's Ranger, even in that condition. Might ve very useful to put my tools (landmower, trimcut etc) in the bed and use it. That would be better than using a car as i'm doing now.
Hi Randy great video, what was the Mustang like Next to the 1st Ford Ranger pick up. I also hate shady people. Keep up the good work from Dave the South Australian Ford man.
The rangers were real cool . I would rock either one .
That ranger is stilla great vehicle! When the window made the noise "yea well ya know" lmao
It's good for you to encourage people to pay forward because today nobody wants to be a help or a Blessing to someone else. Today we all need to look out for each other. Have a Blessed day my friend. Good video.😃👍
I used to run around in this same truck worked for Napa as a younger adult little zippy things. And yes it sure did have a humongous hat on top said Napa.
Unfortunately being a decent human being is a dying trait. I'm glad that you show people that it's good to be decent.
Them old 4 cylinder rangers are bulletproof and I would love to have one
Get the ranger, go on backroads and find some stop signs, to fix the floor!!! Easy $$$ 😆
Love to have a nother Ranger. Those are great tricks, even a little trashed.
Looks like my old 1999 Ford Ranger. The AC kinda work, it would work for awhile but then it would stop working. Scotty told me it probably need a compressor.
One day something made me stop and pick up a hitch hiker walking in wet slushy snow with running shoes on as it was getting dark.... something about the way he held out his thumb made me trust him. Turned out he had become homeless several months back and was finally going to see his parents who hadn't heard from him since.
It was a 40 minute drive kind of out of my way but I insisted on taking him the entire way or he'd be walking in the dark.
Through a coincidence I found out his family helped him get things back on track. I was just so glad I stopped.
Oh and he was not on drugs...it was just bad luck this guy went through.
I've seen a bunch of YT videos about this. Focus probably has an actuator issue. The actuators are external and apparently not a difficult fix.
Randy, the miles are just a number on the dash.
Hey Randy , love the ranger ' rangers are forever cars who ever win it will be proud maybe one day .....
Would love that ranger after some rust repair.
