Then I came out as bi, and went through various experiments with spirituality - atheist, Zoroastrian, agnostic, Thelemite, chaote, pagan...after I came out as a trans girl, while I was trapped in an abusive residential where I couldn't express myself in the least for making the mistake of talking to an untrustworthy therapist, I met God for the first time. I had tried everything, but I put on my kippah and tallit, and went through the Aleinu, and then turned to the back of my siddur, finding this poem by Judy Chicago, which I read aloud: 'And then all that has divided us will merge And then compassion will be wedded to power And then softness will come to a world that is harsh and unkind And then both men and women will be gentle And then both women and men will be strong And then no person will be subject to another's will And then all will be rich and free and varied And then the greed of some will give way to the needs of many And then all will share equally in the Earth's abundance And then all will care for the sick and the weak and the old And then all will nourish the young And then all will cherish life's creatures And then everywhere will be called Eden once again' And there and then I burst into tears and felt God as the Shekhinah place Her hands on my shoulders and embrace me. I didn't ask for this, I dont want it. If I'm wrong for being this way, then why was I made like it ? Why would you doom me to hell for just being the person I was made ? And I remember thinking was I just defective, some cosmic mistake that was to be thrown away. It was then that sitting thare I felt an acceptance not of being a mistake but of being a daughter of God (I'm mtf) and of being loved. I dont know why God made me who I am or what the point is. I never really thought about the lyrical aspect of the song, just enjoyed it for what it was vocally and instrumentally whilst only half-listening to the lyrics y'know? Long story short, somehow I've managed to know about this song for like a month now and only now am I like... "Oh yeah, this is a song about gender identity." Seriously, I have no clue how I've managed to be diagnosed as a "high-functioning" autistic, I'm a fucking jackass honestly... @@RainbowPandaProducti Honistly iv struggled with making my religious beliefs and my identity agree. I remember sitting on the floor of my shower asking God why? I didn't ask for this, I dont want it. If I'm wrong for being this way, then why was I made like it ? Why would you doom me to hell for just being the person I was made ? And I remember thinking was I just defective, some cosmic mistake that was to be thrown away. It was then that sitting thare I felt an acceptance not of being a mistake but of being a daughter of God (I'm mtf) and of being loved. I dont know why God made me who I am or what the point is. I have speculations but i won't know for hopefully awhile. But till then I just know to love God and love my fellow brothers and sisters.

Even though I feel like my own self-acceptance has improved, my environment has only worsened over time. I already used to be a depressed and anxious teenager, but now I need to manage becoming an adult while constantly being overwhelmed by transitioning bundled with dysphoria... I look like a 15ish-old boy, cashiers want to ID check me, but everyone wants me to behave like a grown-up man. I can barely remember what happened during the last 7 years, since my mind was in full shut-down mode all the time and due to being s*icidal I've lost myself in substances. I really don't have any hope for my future life, as I'm unemployed, I barely managed to get through school, and every attempt to take action to change anything has failed miserably... Coming back to the song, I thought way too many times, why shouldn't I just "follow it through to the obvious end"?

the most evil thing I ever did was I wrote a version of this song but made it about a girl dining of cancer and played it in my small town. I loved the song so much but thought even as a straight guy I would get beat up even at really liberal colleges and bars from either straight people or LGBT people.
