My freezer door was sagging-so simple to fix once I knew how! After loosening the bolts, I put a pencil between the freezer and fridge door handles to lift the freezer door the right amount, then tightened bolts. Thank you!
Bill YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I followed EXACTLY what you did and it fixed my fridge!!! I tried “adjusting” the bottom hinge, took the metal hinge bracket off and bent it, taped seal with duct tape to bridge the gap, nothing worked. I usually don’t smash things with a hammer but in this case it was needed! Thank you soo much!!
I was dreading buying a new refrigerator due to it being 20 years old with droopy freezer door. I decided to try to find a fix first since it runs perfectly and I ran across your video. Long story short, you saved me some money and I appreciate it.
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@Adrien Blaine Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Bill, this was just what I needed after finally diagnosing the buildup of "snow" in the freezer due to damp flowing up through a gap caused by a sagging fridge door. What's more, ignore those who say you were too leisurely in the presentation. I had it running on our laptop, sitting on the dryer nearby, and could just about replicate what you did as you did it. Outstanding. We owe you bigtime.
Dude ! 6 years later and your video just fixed my refrigerator door ...awesome it was exactly the problem i had the light switch was hitting the door ..Not anymore. liked and subscribed.
It's now late 2021 and your video is still helping people fix their refrigerator problems. I followed your instructions to the letter and now my garage refrigerator is working as good as new. Many thanks for the video.
Yay! Thank you for this video. After kicking our fridge door shut for nearly two years, I followed your instructions and it was magic. Now our fridge door closes without any stress. Thank you so much for your clear instructions.
Thank you, I just got a new mini fridge with a slanted top door. I was getting ready to send it back but after watching this I was able to fix it. It was alot simpler than I imagined. Thanks again!
This video is right on! I had a door that rubbed at the bottom and wouldn't close. Your advice, procedure, and tool recommendations were all perfect and the task took only 10-15 minutes to complete. Door operates great now. I could not find this info anywhere else. Thank you for taking your time to do this.
Thanks for this tutorial. My 2004 Whirlpool side by side freezer was misaligned, and we were able to adjust the hinge at the top, the way you explained at the end. Loosened the bolts and then visually aligned it and tightened them back up. Your explanation made it so much simpler to solve the problem. Cheers
Thank you!! Your video really helped me out. My parents had paid for a Useless "Extended Warranty" on all of their kitchen appliances when they had their kitchen gutted and renovated. The renovation was below "Piss Poor" to begin with extremely shoddy work that was done below code and/or so bad that it was cracking and falling apart within 6 months of being "Supposedly Completed". Anyways, they purchased a new LG model LRTN refrigerator in stainless steel finish. Within the first 4 months after the fridge had been delivered (with the brand new kitchen floor being destroyed with cuts and gouges during the delivery), I was complaining that the fridge was not keeping food cold enough (between 41F to 49F). The warranty provider sent out a "Technician" for the call. What a useless POS that was sent here. He had absolutely no idea of what he was doing. His comment after he "finished" was to tell us to just "loosen the bolts" and twist with force to "twist the door into alignment". Do not waste your money purchasing LG, Kitchen Aid or Whirlpool home appliances. There is virtually zero support.
It's because of people like you that people like me (those that can't quite fix anything) can somehow manage to keep their house in order and make their wife/husband happy. I would not have managed this without your video, so thank you.
DUDE!!! THANK YOU!! I just needed to know how to fix my droopy top freezer door and you covered that issue too!! Glad I watched to the end. Excellent job...you made it so simple and I learned stuff for potential future issues too. Nailed it!! Thanks man
This video is 2 years old, as long as our fridge door has been unsquare! Should have checked RUclips right away, we got comfortable kicking the left corner when we closed the fridge, also got use to cleaning the fridge weekly due to the wet shelves! Thank you for an excellent tutorial, peace.
Dear Bill, Thank you very much! Your concise, accurate & clear guide enabled me to fix this problem with my old Kelvinator!!!! ....I would not have known to even check for this as a possible cause, if it wasn't for you!!! Thank you very much again Bill !!!!!!
Thank you for this, I just tried the process you laid out and it worked perfectly. Videos like this are great, you don't know what you don't know so this was super handy.
Worked perfectly! Note that I also had a broken and worn lower washer. So, it was good you pointed out to check that, too. The worn washer also lets the door drag on the top of the lower hinge pin bracket.
Jay Perkins where did you get the washer ? I live in nowhere’s viille. It’s 45 minutes to nearest Lowe’s Home Depot . So I check websites before I waste a trip. I’m not seeing anything like it. I went to a local feed/hardware store and they had metal and foam or rubber washers . But no plastic or nylon. I don’t want to resort to the dealer-if they even exist anymore-Kelivinator. have to wait days and end up paying $20 for one washer . But I won’t know if mine is messed up til I do this (attempted) repair . I’m currently using 4 pieces of duct tape to shut door and refusing to buy groceries to punish my teenage sons that won’t help do this . they are expert level gamers yet can’t watch a damn RUclips video so they can have canned food and warm soft drinks until I can’t take this anymore (soon) ..
John Mitchell Most Hardware stores have them for about $0.30. You may not find the exact fit but you can get close. It’s best if you take the old washer in the store with you to compare. I Picked up mine up from Ace today; it wasn’t the exact fit but it worked! You can also find them on sears website or other internet appliance stores. Punch in your model number and look for washers. Usually about $6 online for exact fit.
I could not tell what was wrong exactly. I could not see an obvious droop, but the door would not close properly and seal. I could see that the gasket looks like new. No idea how old the refrigerator is, but it's beige and I believe that was an 80's trend. Anyway, I checked for level and it was higher on the hinge side. I leveled that the best I could. Mine has the slotted hex bolts you mention in your video. I believe my slab droops on that side so I could slide a shim under there to make it perfect if I have any other trouble. It definitely sloops front to back so that part was fine. Ended up that I had to use a hammer on the bottom pivot post, like you demonstrated in your video. It totally worked. My sincere Thanks!
Perfect video. You explain succinctly, explain what’s needed without any fluff and show the results. Dude, you’re the bomb video maker/repair guy. Thank you!
Thank you! I replaced both hinges on my refrigerator - looks just like the one in the video. The most difficult part was re-attaching the wooden panel afterwards. Trying to support the heavy panel and screwing it to the fridge door wasn't easy. In the end I used a car jack to support the panel which made it a lot easier and I could get it at the exact height I needed. It didn't help that the original installer must have tried screwing the panel in multiple positions so I couldn't tell which hole I was to screw into!
Since i moved to new house i was wondering whats wrong with my refrigerator's doors and i was planning to fix them but didn't know how. With your video i finally made them work like new! Thanks for the good guidance! Thumbs Up! Keep up the good work!
Awesome!! I needed to fix my aunties freezer door and was looking for anything to try and fix it!!! I saw your title and almost skipped it, but thought, let's just watch and maybe something will help ? I'm glad I did!! Thanks a ton. I had to use my hammer and do a little persuading also, but it did the trick. I'm just glad she wasn't here when I did it! Lol. She would have had a heart attack, made me quit, told me I didn't know what I was doing and hired someone else to do it.. now I can just show her when she gets back. Oh, and I watched and used your hair dryer trick as well! That's what led me to this video. Thanks a ton.
One more thing! I also watched "freezer door Vaseline hack " which worked and helped me finish the job!! I was honestly skeptical.. but it worked! Loved the content. And trust and believe in the Vaseline hack! Read the comments and you'll be convinced. Thanks again. You da man!
Thanks! your video is exactly what we needed to fix our fridge door. And the second part about the freezer is brilliant! Other videos would've had us buying cam repair kits. Thanks again!
Hey man.....what a great simple approach. Was skeptical until I viewed your process again a few times. Worked like a bloody charm!!! Thanks for a simple solution to what I thought was going to be a full gasket replacement!!!
Thank you! Esp. for showing how these hinges operate and come apart (without me trying to guess). My brand new Frigidaire arrived with the top freezer hinge seemingly crushed (bent inward). The freezer doesn't quite close properly on the opposite side (and most noticeably there's lots of moisture inside). With your video, I can probably fix this: either bend it straight, or replace it (hopefully free from Frigidaire). Thanks again.
We got a second hand fridge and after getting it home saw that it didn't close right so fortunately found your video and it was the exact same fridge and appreciate your thorough talk/walk through repair is it worked great!!! I did see another video that replaced the vinyl washer so we did that too, actually just put it on top of the old one.
I thought I was going to have to call the service man to fix my door. Thanks for the detailed instructions. Your presentation was very easy to follow. Loved seeing your microwave door release! :-)
Thanks for this video. We moved my daughter's fridge and her electric went way up and noticed the same gap you have on hers and now I know how to fix it !
Had to add washers to fix my door sagging. It looks identical to yours but after hammering both ways found it needed about a quarter inch lift and the washers did the trick of leveling the lower door.
Well, you make this look really easy. When I try to do it, it will probably be a lot harder for me to do. I am Mrs. Break everything. I can take things apart really good. But getting things back together again is frustrating. Most of the time, I don't have the proper tools. I want to say that your video did help me to understand what is going on with my refrigerator door. I'm just afraid to try it. I have a handyman that does all these little things for me. I probably will still have him fix this for me. Thank you for your video.
I've been screwing around with my fridge door seal for a long time without satisfactory results. Never thought of using a dead blow hammer. Damn if it didn't work! I can't thank you enough for your simple solution to a nagging problem. This from an 84 year old Mr. Fixit who thought he could still fix anything. Thanks for showing me the way and keeping my ego intact.
Awesome! I'm glad I was able to help you out. I was shown by an old Korean tech. He said, this is the only way you do it. So it's been the way I've done it every time I run into saggy doors. I've seen people stack washers on the lower hinge, that just creates other problems. Awesome Job on your Repair!
Excellent video. One of the original screws on the bottom corner bracket was stripped and I had to replace it with a little larger screw. Worked great and now we have a refrigerator door that closes correctly
Thanks for this! We recently bought a house, and the fridge came with it, and it has a saggy door. I've been meaning to search for how to fix it, but just kept forgetting. This is exactly what I needed!
bill I have serious problem. Our fridigaire dryer quit heating. and I took the unit apart. The top of the dryer slipped and all the wires pulled loose. I found a wiring diagram but it is hard for me to follow. I'm wondering if you have time to straighten me out. my email address is plewis@va.metrocast.net. Today is Sat 7/16/16. Thank you for your time and much needed help. You look like a Pa boy from up North{LockHaven} I'm from SW Pa. I picked that info up from your gyroscope video. I could be wrong tho. Thanks again.
I just bought a house with the exact same fridge with the exact same problem. Must've been a common issue for these. But thank you so much for a really good detailed explanation!
Tried a bunch of videos to fix the poorly adjusted Frigidaire lower fridge door - none including this one worked. Fixed it by placing a couple of 5/8" washers on the lower hinge pin and placing the nylon washer on top of them. Been good ever since.
This worked for me , also I found a plastic washer to add to the bottom one which automatically raised the height 1/8-1/4”. Not sure if the hammer fixed it or the washer but it’s almost perfect, hopefully stop the water accumulating in top of fridge anyway.
Watched this after leveling the fridge. Everything was going good then when going to take the fridge door off that there's play within the hinge pins. Lift the whole door up a couple mm and opens, closes and seals as it should. Went through all the toolboxes but have no washers of any kind. Gonna run to Home Depot in the AM to get those plastic washers to boost up the door from the bottom. Thanks for the video though. While following along I learned the actual problem with the door :)
Thanks for the video Bill! The microwave solution cracked me up. Those stupid plastic pins on the side of the button snap off...such bad design. I came across a broken one once where I was caught without the part and was able to get the customer up and going temporarily by drilling a small hole where the broken pin was previously and inserting a small metal screw in its place. I honestly believe it was a design improvement. Doing that on both sides would probably have made the part last forever.
My wife hates it! lol You would think I know a guy who could fix it! I should have put a screw in it when it broke like you said, but I think I tossed the part. Oh well, it works for now.
Thank you so much, we had this exact same problem and my wife and I were trying to adjust it out with everything still on. We had made it worse and I was at my wits end. Thought what they hell and we find the same model with the same problem. You saved me so much stree
Thank you so much, my refrigerator is only a year and a half old & rubber gasket perfect. Bottom door just needed adjustment. Scam Artist Repairmen will charge fortunes during COVID-19.
Two 3/8 bolts at 5:28 allow for an ever slight adjustment. What I did is support bottom door with two 2x4s and a 1x4 and one of those wooden paint stir sticks you get with a gallon of paint (under left and most sagging edge) - I literally put hands on both sides of bottom door and lifted door straight up sliding in wood base. Remove bottom right bolt to get an idea on how long bolts are as well as you need to put a thin washer behind the bracket for this bolt - bolt is not that long. Carefully loosen but DO NOT remove upper left bolt. NEVER remove upper left bolt. I placed an ordinary rather thin washer behind bracket bottom right and a second though slightly bigger washer bottom left (behind bracket) even though there is no bolt for this bottom left washer. You are trying to angle entire bracket up though "up" a little more on left hand side which is why you use a washer twice as thick on left. Tighten the two bolts - all good. I didn't even tap bracket up before tightening but that was my immediate failover if needed. I do not consider introducing further metal fatigue and beating the appliance with a hammer a fix (see James' comment below about snapping off a bolt with hammer prior to trying hammer method). Also I am liable to introduce more problems taking doors off. Kudus to original uploader as I certainly don't want to spend time creating a video and looks as if you guided me and others to the problem. Hope this helps someone. Thank you.
My freezer door was sagging-so simple to fix once I knew how! After loosening the bolts, I put a pencil between the freezer and fridge door handles to lift the freezer door the right amount, then tightened bolts. Thank you!

did this, worked like a crappy fridge, but still worked better because of you.
Thanks for this video. We moved my daughter's fridge and her electric went way up and noticed the same gap you have on hers and now I know how to fix it !
I *did* enjoy seeing how you operate your microwave door.
THANK YOU! Just fix my mom's fridge. Exactly the same issue. God bless you!
Looks easy enough for an old lady like me, to do it.... Yay... Let's do this!
Bill, you are wonderful at explaining, and demonstrating
Had to add washers to fix my door sagging. It looks identical to yours but after hammering both ways found it needed about a quarter inch lift and the washers did the trick of leveling the lower door.
Thank you!! Just moved into a new house and the refrigerator door wouldn't close properly. It closes great now!! Appreciate the video greatly!!
Great video easy to understand. Will do this tonight to our fridge. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing ! Can't wait to try to fix mine in the morn now. After midnight and I'm watching 😃
Thanks! Super clear instructions! I used your way... and also put a metal washer under the nylon washer on the bottom pin. Worked like a charm!
Who needs a dad when you have RUclips! Thanks buddy it worked like a charm!

Saved the day! I followed the instructions and fixed the problem....Thank you
Had to fix my mom's fridge (her ginger rage was taking over lol) luckily, you helped. Thank you, your omnipotence 👍
Thank you very much, all the other videos have refrigerators with one full door. I am glad someone suggested your video.
I have the same problem with our refrigerator. Your video was well thought out and very helpful. Thanks!
Excellent video. One of the original screws on the bottom corner bracket was stripped and I had to replace it with a little larger screw. Worked great and now we have a refrigerator door that closes correctly
Had to unscrew the bottom hinge and put a couple washers because I couldn't get the metal to bend but great video! super helpful!

Haha the microwave detail was pretty funny.
Good job.
This video will help me a lot.
Thanks
I just fixed mine! God bless you!!!
Absolutely Awesome Video... I just used your technique and BINGO... FIXED...👍👍👏
You're a good teacher. Thank you!
Great tip! Worked like a charm. No more gaps.
Bill I appreciate all your videos. You are like a saint, improving so many lives :)
Thank you. It helped me fix my refrigerator door not closing well.
Great video . I truly enjoy watching all your videos, great explanation of refrigerator door adjustment. Thank you very much.
While following along I learned the actual problem with the door :)
thanks! my bracket pin had bent outward...but this gave me inspiration!
A+ for the bonus microwave tip. Great video, thanks Bill.
You saved me so much stree

it reminds me of that video where a guy have push button, but when he pushed it, the button just fly off
Thanks. That helped me adjust my top freezer door. Mine's a bit different, but the same principal applies.
This was helpful. Seems to have worked! Thanks.
That's exactly what is happening on my fridge. I wish you were in Durban, South Africa 🙆♂️🙆♂️
Thank you so much, my refrigerator is only a year and a half old & rubber gasket perfect. Bottom door just needed adjustment. Scam Artist Repairmen will charge fortunes during COVID-19.

your video worked for me like a charm...thank you for sharing
Thank you.
Hi it's my first time watching your channe, l am going to try this the washer only thing was not helping me. Thanks
Really, really fantastic video!!! Does the fix last a long time?
